You folks out there need to realize, if we were to hit a signal, we get disciplined very harshly! If a home signal is hit - it is considered a collision - and that punishment is severe! We're not going slow because we feel like it; we are just protecting our jobs!

This is EXACTLY what has been needed for years! Bring the trains back up to the speeds the subways were originally designed for (especially the IND which took great care in measuring track superelevation, etc for solid 40-50 MPH running back in the early 30s).

one thing about the grade time signals, they don't clear on time when you go at the speed limit. This forces operators to do 7-8 mph less than the posted speed cuz they fear to overrun these signals. They definitely need to calibrate the timers. Example, if it's a signal at red with a lunar white lens under, it means this signal will clear (stop arm goes down) when the train approaches it at the speed limit. So if the limit is 25, it should clear if we do 25. In reality, if we did 25, or even 23, that stop arm will still be up as the train passes the signal.

I'm loving this change. I've liked my 1/2/3 lines since the beginning, but 1 trains going 40 and 2/3 going 45-60 is just great. 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, D, E, F, and L trains are fast as well. Some that still need work are the C, D from 36 to Coney Island, F on Culver Local, G, J, M, and the yellow line.

In Toronto, there are markers on the walls of the platform telling the driver and conductor information. The front of the train always stops next to a red circle while the back lines up with a green triangle, which the conductor points at before opening the doors. When the train departs, the conductor can’t go back into their cab until the train passes by an orange triangle in the middle
@samuelitooooo
@samuelitooooo Год назад
The NYC subway does have similar markers. Instead of a red circle, there are numbers corresponding to the length of your train, so if your train is 8 cars long, you stop at the 8 marker - or there's an S if the stopping location is the same regardless of consist. An outdated system for most lines that run full-length 8- or 10-car trains nowadays, but there are still some lines that run short trains at longer platforms; notably the G, M, and Far Rockaway shuttle. And conductors here in NYC are at the middle of the train, so you'll find at the very center of platforms there are white and black striped panels that conductors point to before opening doors.

I think the point is that they are meant to inspect the train when an emergency stop is triggered, they'd still have to do it even if they technically could disable it in cab.

And on the long island railroad when you emergency brake the m7 model from my knowledge you have to turn off the whole train and restart it and you can't just brake and then go they have a full inspection and report even if you overshoot the station by a quarter of a car they still have to emergency stop and investigate why the operator did not stop and this can even make train delays and commuters late and mad but we always have to keep our customers safe. The MTA should have NEVER reduced the speed creating so many slow zones to remedy the situation of train collisions. The solution to collisions is to fire the motormen creating the accidents, not punish millions of riders by making an already miserable commute a slow miserable commute. I've been riding the subways since the 1960s and speed was never an issue up until the 1990s. Perhaps recruiting a higher quality workforce would reduce many of the issues the subway experiences.
