As a German i have to say i find Dutch to be one of the funniest languages there is. And i know for a fact that almost everyone i know thinks the same. Dutch and German are just so similiar to each other that it automatically starts sounding extremely funny when you listen to it.
Yo Grubby PR team here: It seems your often portrayed as a ruthless critter & footman murderer. To counteract this so viewers don't get the wrong idea I suggest you first charge the "expendable" with a horrendous crime to get the people back on your side. Signed: The victory at all costs coalition
When Grubby talked about how german would have been "a useful skill" I instantly remembered his winner interview after WCG 2008 with I believe Reaper. It was in german and Grubby was so nervous about it :D But I also remember being extremly impressed that when he stumbled into a block, he instantly switched into english, not even a slight hesitation or sign he would use dutch instead.
Hey Grubby great video as always!! I was wondering about something do Humans still sometimes do the Sky push strat? The tier 2 tower push with Beachmaster 2nd
Hey Gubster, keep playing DoW between rank matches for WC3. If you can play Dark Crusade expansion you would really enjoy the different race campains. Best of wishes conquering the WC3 ladder!!
I was gonna say about the "my woman", as I learned different languages I saw that was more common than expected. Like you mentioned in Dutch you use "mijn vrouw", in German it's "meine Frau", in French it's "ma femme" which sounds bad in English. And it's also weird when it doesn't work the same for the husband.
Also fun fact: In Argentina, talking in spanish, we also use "my woman" when talking about a spouse, however, it doesn't go the other way (so men say 'my woman', but women don't say 'my man')
(8:30~) Hehe in Persian we say just the word "friend" for male or female friends, and then add boy or girl to the end of the word "friend" to make it "friendgirl"/"friendboy" similar to English. ('dost-dokhtar', 'dost-pessar') But for wife we just say "my-woman" ('zan-am'). The word for "my-wife" (hamsar-am) is not used colloquially, just woman + the possessive as it is obviously implied. Funnily though! The opposite is not true in the husband case. Saying "my-man" (mard-am) sounds too crude for women to say - and Iranian culture is too conservative to do the boss woman thing without cringe (unless they are really really charismatic), so women generally don't. They use the more formal "my-husband" (shoohar-am). I think it's similar to the idea of girls saying "bro" in english, it just sounds weird in a special way. It could also be that I havent heard it because I never hung out in girl circles so maybe they do say it.
Dutch is like if a Danish and German languages had a baby and their grandparents were English and French. But if I were to compare germanic lagnauges to families it would be more like a flat horizontal family tree like an incestious polyamory(or polyglotic) relationship.
I was in Netherlands. Wonder , why people are the tallest there. I think , its due they are living so low, so graviti is there a bit stronger, so they need to be taller, with stronger legs bones :D . Am i right? So if you live in the Mountains , you should be smaller. Grubby how you think? Personally im living on 300 meters (thats typical land height) , and im 6'3. Netherlands are below 0 meters, so its much less. How tall are you Grubby?
Hey @Grubby. Could you speak a bit of dutch in your videos? My dutch gf wants me to learn dutch as a german. So i could argue that watching your videos all day is only for educational purpose
Grubby, do you know a pro-Japanese player who steaming like you? I am trying to learn Japanese and watching Warcraft in Japanese could really help. Thanks
Pretty sure the only Japanese who ever went pro in WC3 was ENZA and with pro I mean he literally showed up only for ESWC and WCG, hogging the japanese slots. Otherwise he wasn't relevant at all. So I would be really surprised if you find a Japanese player who is atleast half-decent at Warcraft 3, nevermind pro
german is a beautiful language and therefore has a lot of famous poets. Dont get your mind messed up by those tiktoks joking about "krankenwagen", literal thrash-tv of our time
In french, you say "ma femme" everyone understand you are married to that woman. But If a woman says "Mon homme", kinda just means my boyfriend|my guy, does not mean direct marriage(You'd have to say "Mon mari" or "Mon époux"). I guess it goes with the language being masculine dominant when it's neither gender or both.
It feels weird to say "my woman" or hear "your woman" because our gross and disgusting culture has impressed the idea of polygamy that strongly. If someone referred to you as her man you would have no issue with it, right?
Definetly has nothing to do with polygamy (how did you even arrive at that buzzword in this context?), it just sounds a bit strange and somewhat possessive, therefore disrespectful. But as Grubby said, it probably was just a language-barrier. As someone else in chat mentioned, in german common speech the word for "woman" is the same as for "wife", same with man/husband. But it doesn't translate well into english. You wouldn't say "my woman said...." and go for "my wife said..." instead
@@ottokarl5427 It's more that the notion of an exclusive monogomous relationship is frowned upon in our culture. And buzzword? You should pay some attention to the culture war.
Exactly Germen and Dutch languages are not beautiful to the ear. For many, Formal Arabic especially Quran's words are very rich in vocabulary and beautiful to the ear. Try it listen to some recitation from the Quran you'II like it.
Quran sounds like someone whining with nose. 😂😂 Not beautiful at all. But people still call it beautiful because it is associated with a large religion known to kill people who criticize it.
