This is an overview of the new Speedway Motors Tubular Control Arm Kit for 1978-88 GM G Body vehicles made in the USA. This also covers info regarding the recall on the lower control arms.
Nice overview on these. We have heard of the issues with cracking but we were unsure of exactly where that was happening. Does look like the sping pocket was the issue. The extra bushing sleeves are for s10s which have a larger bolt.
The extra sleeves are for different size bolts I got the same set for my s10 work great except for the grease fittings in wrong place just put them in vice an greased good before installing
I’m going to install tubular control arms on my ‘55 Chevy Nomad. My Dad kept a sign on his desk that said, “the bitterness of poor quality remains longer than the sweetness of low price”. Yes, the price was good but you spent a fair amount of your time chasing stuff back and forth. Too much work to install these only to have to tear the whole thing apart to replace with what maybe should have been purchased at the start.
Just moved the shop to a new location over the past few months. So haven't been able to install these yet. But its the first thing on my list to do as far as videos. So hopefully in the next 30 days.
Not yet, they are still in the box in the shop. But they are at the top of the priority list in the next couple of weeks. I'll post a video immediately afterwards.
I just got done moving my shop out to the property we purchased over the summer. I actually had them out of the box just a couple days ago which reminded me I need to get this install done. Hoping to have a video on this in the next month or so. Thanks for your comment.
Not yet. Just moved my shop and getting things organized. My goal is to have an install video on these in the next month or so. Stay tuned and thanks for the comment!
@@g3garagecan I ask you a little question? I got what I could recently and purchased the uppers. No paperwork included and no instructions that I can find on the page for the arms… how do I know which is right and which is left?
Unfortunately the upper and lower kit is not available. Only the uppers can be purchased at this time. They are working with the manufacturer to correct a design flaw with the lower spring pocket. Here is the link for the uppers that are still available. Hope this helps. www.speedwaymotors.com/1982-04-S10-G-Body-Tubular-Upper-Control-Arms-Kit-Powdercoated,452451.html
Its not marked anywhere on the parts or the boxes they came in. But they did tell me when I spoke with them that they are manufactured in their own facility in Lincoln Nebraska. And the repairs were done there as well. Thanks for your comment!
They are still in the box waiting to be installed. Had to move my shop recently and just got my new shop setup. So if all goes well, these will be installed in the next month or so. I'll post the install video when I get a chance to thoroughly road test and give any honest review of these control arms. Thanks for your comment!
Does anyone have a comparison of these uppers vs the stock uppers in terms of length, on my s10 I’m running UMI lowers with stock uppers unfortunately and I’m having to run a massive stack of washers to get just barely 0 degrees of camber so I’m wanting to know how much shorter if at all these uppers are. If they are shorter I’d much rather get these then spend $700 on the UMI uppers
I've measured mine from the back of the cross-shaft (the side the nut fastens) to the outer edge of where the upper ball joint mounts and its almost exactly 10 inches. I'd be happy to send you a pic if you have an email I can send it to. Hope this helps.
@@74hotrodmalibu Still in the process of getting everything ready for the install. I'll let you know in the next week or so when I pull the trigger on this. Looks like the ones for our A Body vehicles don't have the grease fittings as they are self-lubricated.
