I have to say here is......YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I'm new to the hobby and I'm building planes out of foam board so thinking I buy a receiver that states AS3X was already programmed into it never knowing I had to do all this. Thank you so very much Sir!!!

Great Series. I have a brand new 636 that I just got. I'm not going to use SAFE so when I updated I used the 1.XX update which did not go into a calibration step so I stopped right there and watched this video again. Watching your video there is a calibration step. Is the calibration step ONLY associated with the 2.xx update that is associated with SAFE tech? Thanks for the series.

I have a Ar636 it was working but now the Spektrum Programmer tells me Calibration needs to be done. I start the process the orange led blinks slowly but nothing happens with the process. any thoughts ?

Hi, I have a Spektrum AR636A Receiver. I just want to have AS3X enabled for my new Sbach 342. i could register my receiver and was able to caibrate the receicer. Im now asking myself if this 40/170 option is the way to go for as3x?

Thanks for the series its a great help. I have a brand new 636 that I am not going to use SAFE tech, just the gyro stabilization. I updated using the 1.xx update but it did not go into a calibration step so I stopped right there and watched part 6 again. In this video you used 2.xx update which went into a calibration step. Is the calibration step ONLY associated with the 2.xx update firmware? Second question: I have the Spektrum APP on my phone with the gain that I already preset for my plane. If there is or isn't a calibration step depending on the answer to the previous question, can I go ahead and connect the 636 to the Spektrum bluetooth devise to finish my programing using my phone? Thanks

moe joe if all you’re using is AS3X it doesn’t need to have calibration, which is why the 1.xx firmware doesn’t have you do it. For AS3X only, you can use just the mobile app and you’ll be fine. The in flight gain adjustments work as well! Hope that helps

I have a couple AR636B receivers that have safe on them. Can i use these as regular As3x recievers and change the wing type by going through the same process?? I have no use for safe and want to use flaperons like I use on my AR636A

Always Flying yes, as long as you can register the receiver on you MySpektrum account, you should be able to load the AR636B receivers with the 1.xx firmware and program them as AS3X only receivers which will unlock heading hold and all the various wing types.

Hi, I have a AR636A version that came in a E-flite Rare Bear so its a few years old. I tried registering it and get a message saying the serial numbers don't match the model selected. They only offer the AR636 not the AR636A in the selection. Is this just to old to update or is there any way around registering it? I'm trying to add safe to this receiver and i'm not sure I can do it anyway but from what I heard I maybe able to so any help would be greatly appreciated.

MR. FPV try getting in touch with Horizon Tech Support. They should be able to assist with you getting it registered. This could be an old enough model that it may be some of the few that really are locked down. I don’t know the exact models that fall under that category off hand. I know there’s a list out there somewhere, I’ll try to find it and get back to you.

I wasn’t able to find any specifics. Only the planes that come with the AR636A, and that some are not able to be registered at all. There was one plane specifically cited, that being the older Sukhoi model that came with the AR636A that you couldn’t do anything with. Sorry I can’t be of more help here. You may have one of those older receivers that you just can’t do anything with.

Hi, I updated my AR636A to version 2.30, it updated successfully, but the calibration step didn't come up. I went into edit model, and device is a AR636 safe receiver. Would it be okay to use the receiver as it is or is it imperative that it goes through the calibration step. Thanks.

It’s pretty strange that it didn’t ask you to calibrate it. You might want to try and load the firmware again. The calibration is pretty important. It will likely work fine as just an AS3X Gyro, but not sure if I would trust it as a SAFE receiver without knowing whether or not the Calibration is good.

@@TheRCAirMarshall Thanks for your help. I loaded the firmware again but the calibration step still didn't come up. I updated one of my other AR636A receivers and it went through the calibration step. I tried the other receiver again but same thing, the calibration step doesn't come up, I don't know why.

See if you can load the older 1.xx Open Stock firmware on it and then bring it back up to 2.30.

Hey great videos. I have an old but brand new 636 I just updated. It fails calibration every time at 36%. I have it dead level and perfectly still. Tried it lots of times, gets to 36% and fails every time. Any ideas? @thercairmarshall
