Wanted to point out that the speed a Spelljamming ship travels normally and the speed it “slows” to when it is inside another bubble (such as a star system’s sphere or the air envelope) is different and much slower than it does when it is traveling at “warp speed” So the scale of “10,000 miles per round” wouldn’t really apply for any encounters, as it is assumed if you are close enough to something to spot it/get into an encounter with it, your ship is already “slowed” to a more manageable speed

Thanks for swinging through - Yes exactly! This book is specifically exploring how combat and exploration changes when ships have the option of moving at incremental speeds, not just binary fast/slow.... so what you're describing is why this project exists... tables that want to have the ability to speed up, slow down, and move at less-than-full speed increments will find a lot of very simple mechanics and how they can be applied to adventures in space. There's 80 pages of variant rules and a 20 page conversion guide to how these mechanics can be applied to Light of Xaryxis as a practical demonstration of the mechanics in use.
