so, from what I've read, hundun is the chaotic, sentient, primordial egg that the universe is contained within. the concept of hundun is used across a few religions, with the earth being contained within the egg. so thinking about it, when we hear the "crash" sounds that is the olmec ship breaking through the shell of hundun and into the outside of the universe, so the sunken city is the outside of the universe. then when we kill him and shoot him with the light arrow and enter the cosmic ocean, we are re-entering a muddled, dead version of the universe, a new one, since we have killed hundun and began the universe anew. the cosmic ocean in most mythologies is the vast primordial area predating the existence of everything, concepts and matter and energy alike. so it would make sense that we are "resetting" the universe when we kill hundun.
I gotta give credit to the art team. This character is super abstract and pefectly fits the overall theme of the sunken city with how nothing really makes sense
Me and two others witnessed this. The person with the ankh and the bow and arrow fell into spikes, I got crushed and I have no idea what happened to the other person, but they died. The bow and arrow got crushed along the way up.
I love how the area art looks. You can easily tell they used a symmetry ruler for it, but at the same time they add little bits and details that make it asymmetrical. Like for this image, the cracks, fangs and whatnot on the snake , and the tears, but the rest is symmetrical.
Legit one of the most intense and eerie tracks is Hundun's theme here, it's almost Silent Hill esque in it's distortion and repetitive heartbeat-like thumping... And it's a boss fight against a giant egg.
It was originally going to be a real Lovecraftian boss, SC was based after Ry’leh, I think it’s called, where Cthulhu sleeps, and the figure when you open the game is still shaped to reflect that. (This isn’t a theory, Derek said so on Discord)
They don't have any mythological connections iirc. So it's likely a coincidence as Tiamat is pretty much god(created the first race, the olmites, therefore giving her the title of mother) and Hundun is often referred to as a chaotic child.
This game's soundtrack might not be as memorable as the first one, but they sure as hell nailed the atmosphere. Besides a few songs, I won't listen to them on my own, but ingame it's perfect.
Not gonna lie, this was an extremely tense level. I just got to Hundun for the first time last night, and I was panicking the entire time. The levels atmosphere is so insane, the way Hundun slowly climbs from the bottom up to chase you, and the music swells so creepily... Well done! I still died of course...
I just got to Hundun about a few hours ago. I got very lucky, one of the heads got poisoned on the way up so I jumped up to the top and waited until one of the heads died. The snake head managed to somehow knock me on top of it? So I indirectly killed it by bouncing on it a shit ton.
After 500 attempts I finally beated it today, gotta say it was really stressful, from being the very first time I got so far to have little to none useful items for the fight but some poison and friendly fire finished the job
Hundun is a giant egg with legs, wings, an eye and a snake and bird head, If you shoot its eye with an arrow made of light it sends you to space. Spelunky, everybody
THERE IS MORE THAN ONE UNIVERSE IN HUNDUN. the only way to unlock classic guy is to beat hundun and it says that he is from a parallel universe. so before we get to the moon classic guy is at THE VERY BOTTOM OF EXISTENCE because he is above hundun. so he has been there as the only guy out of his universe and has been trying to escape chaos. also hell is literally HELL so it makes sense hell can be in more than one entrance. you can find hell in the core of the earth or find hell outside of the universe (or transinfinity). but that just leaves the question of when did classic guy go to the sunken city? because we know that he (somehow) took Olmec out of the lava and reformed him into a spaceship. so does that mean tun took the olmec from the core of the earth and reformed him into a spaceship so WE can get to the sunken city. and hundun must have turned chaotic and shoved all the gods inside him at one point. and while sitting in silence hundun must have created the first larvae, splitting off to parasites, and frogs and tadpoles. but now the only question is where is DUAT???????
Hindus description is one of the scariest things I’ve read. “The muddled dreamer Hundun. The cosmic egg Hundun. The majestic child Hundun. The unstoppable Hundun.” Like bro, the UNSTOPPABLE Hundun? Is this thing supposed to be a world destroyer?
The universe is housed inside it. If it hatched it would basically be like having the big band happening again and all time restarting by the logic that everything you see in cosmic ocean is what will spear if it does
I was thinking about modding the game's files to make the hundun battle theme the battle theme of the final boss of earthbound alongside with editing hundun's textures to look like the final boss of earthbound ( *SPOILER SHIELD ACTIVE* )
