This and all transmission rebuilds seem like a "how hard could it be" job that you start then never can get everything back together, either loosing, forgetting, or putting in one small piece wrong and have to blow it all open again. Great job on this.

thats how rebuilding my lawnmower diff went, broke the open dif so I welded it(pro tip torch the gear to burn off the oil before welding) and uhhh not so much forgot to put a part back in, more so that I forgot on my unit, like a bicycle, it needs to be engaged to pop into gear. Guess who re-rebuilt it thinking he messed something up? (:

Don't use any more anaerobic sealant than necessary. Squeeze out should not cure and get in screen, but it can if there is too much. The suction screen is not very large on those, but all oil goes through the pump, is filtered and cooled before entering the transmission. There should be no sealant used on any of the gaskets that seal the shaft ends. Judging by the amount of external squeeze out they used way too much expensive sealant. Also, I hope they wiped it off, that stuff never cures and you end up with 515 all over your clothes.
@zabzinski

@@jimnaden5594 yup, this is exactly how my FR-S died after Toyota performed a valve spring recall on it. They used too much sealant on the timing cover and bits of excess RTV clogged one of my oil galleries, and part of the pick up. Not cool.

Love your comments about engineers. It's not a question of intelligence, it's expertise. You guys are smarter than most engineers. And the marketing comments are golden, that's just how they think about "product". I was lucky to work for a company where marketing had no input on engineering, but they did have input on the features we included in our devices, because they knew the customers better than we did.

long awaited and didn't disappoint . Kevin was great on camera, he a natural and great personality, smart funny and humble approach and he thrifty too . Hope his wife appreciates all these amazing points lol :-) Good effort filming more technical worthwhile parts and got enough out of that to tackle one if needed :-) How much Kevin put into the full fix ? The full rebuilds are over the top and wasteful in most cases, if parts in spec/serviceable use them and save material resources and money . The good news is Rich owes Kevin more than the 'fix' cost in hours on the forever borrowed Forklift lol . Looked good fun in the shop, hope first run is slick, all the best guys ...

There are some videos where I'm really blown away at what a clever mechanic you are, and how independent you and Kevin both are. This one, the day you dragged that man-lift out of the old lady's yard, some of the days where you and your brother used to just go start up old dozers in the junkyard for fun. Rich, I think a lot about how I want to own an electric car both for cost savings and for the reduced environmental impact - but when I think about how simple they are and how little there would be to maintain, I really worry that I'm going to lose touch with a lot of the greasemonkey hard-working identity that makes me feel a little bit closer to people like you and Kevin. As the world evolves and changes, I hope we can all still find ways to get out there and get filthy, because your determined nature to reuse, recycle, rebuild, and do it all on your own taps into some kind of primal feeling that I think is very important for everyone and I personally never want to lose touch with. I think your work and the growing audience you're building are important and are a really positive contribution to the world, man. It's not just all just goofy fun, it's important stuff.

I love doing gearboxes, especially big ones. I used to spend my saturdays putting engines and gearboxes back together after the line mechanics took them apart during the week. they were warranty returns going back the the factory from the truck dealership i was working at, and it was really just so they all went back in one lump than as a box of parts. I learned a LOT doing that, a perfect job for a 14 year old! Since then I've always taken gearbox jobs if given the choice, nothing is more satisfying than watching nicely machined parts go together.

I WAS APPAULED AT THE PARTS PRICES! $120 for a U-joint, $100 for an idler pulley, $350 for the e-box that controls a couple of simple safety's and turns the engine off... I did a bunch of business with Snead at my previous employer, these guys definitely know their CNH drivelines as they rent several old, and new Steigers for use with large scraper pans.. not many better ways to destroy driveline components than scraping, especially when the operator isn’t paying for the equipment. I have visited their shop - it is exactly what you would expect out of a tractor shop in Alabama haha. They have built several of their own tools for rebuilding these huge transmissions and axles as well, I was told one of their axle presses gets frequently rented to large CNH dealers as it is the only portable press capable of working some of the assemblies in the country.

I did a lot of work on the 8.3 Cummins and was the shop welder. I did cut out and replaced a few center section pivot plates on the 9350. That was a job. They usually took out the back glass before they realized the steering bushings in the plate were gone and destroyed the plate. I did help them cut up and scrap a few old 9350s and we sent the motors and transmissions over seas somewhere.

Kevin is such a likeable guy he's absolutley fearless as well. I wouldn't touch this with me pushing and Deboss holding it.

Sure I will pull it apart. It getting it back together correctly is where the money is. Been scared before but last time I thought about rebuilding a trans I looked at the new blister pack of parts and took it to a trans specialist…. No problem working on my 6.0 power smoke but not willing to open the can of worms on a transmission. Hat off to ya Kev. Can’t wait to see the Case pop thru the gears..

Can't go wrong with too much anaerobic sealant! Johnson/Evinrude used on on their block halves for 2 stroke outboards and you didn't want an air leak after all that work! Great video! Not as insanely complicated as I was expecting.

Great video Kevin & Rich. The comment about the electric tractor was perfect & I was wondering how long an extension cord you would need. Interesting repair job. That puller is a killer tool.

Good grief, that's a wee bit over my pay grade . Reminds me of Richard at precision transmission here on RU-vid. Just incredible skills to work on transmissions that work correctly after full disassemble/reassemble. It takes a wealth of knowledge and skills.
