To give you a little bit of hope, I live in the state of New York and there are no plastic bags at the grocery store. We have to bring our own reusable bags!

We moved from Cambridge UK to the Houston suburbs and had all our UK furniture shipped over and found that all the UK beds will not fit a US mattress. We have a super king very expensive bed frame and had to recently replace the mattress nothing fit, it was either the right width but not in length or length but not width. Had to have a UK mattress shipped to us so we didn't have to buy a new bed. If you want fresh vegs and fruit find a local farmers market they are usually open on weekends and there are a few British Markets as well. Welcome to Houston!

Hi Elle, Just a heads-up: Bring your pre-purchased (50¢ - $2.00+) reusable tote bags to the food shops. If you don't, the cashiers/checkers automatically use the store's plastic bags to pack your items. Every shop sells reusable tote bags: Trader Joe's, Walmart, Target, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Home Goods, Ralph's, Vons, Stater Bros., Sprouts, Erewhon, Pavillions, etc. They are generally located at the checkout. If you don't see them there, be sure to ask. The cashiers usually will ask you if you need any bags. If you say yes, then they will start loading the plastic bags. Also, add A+D First Aid Ointment to your shopping list for emergencies like burns or cuts. A+D First Aid Ointment is a fabulous product (check out the entire product line) that should be on hand in your First Aid kits in your kitchen, bathrooms, car vehicles, makeup bag, sports bag, etc. This product works wonders and is not sold in the UK. That is why RU-vidrs like Josie, make a point of purchasing this product every time they visit the USA. ❤🤍💙🥰

In Australia (an even tinier island than UK) don’t use plastic basically at all. We can’t purchase plastic bags, we can only buy reusable bags or cardboard bags. Our fruit don’t come in any bags, you just grab it and put it in your own reusable bag. You can’t get ANY plastic straws, plates, or cups etc at any store in Australia. You should’ve moved here 😉

I live in new york state and plastic bags were outlawed in my county years ago! You can either use paper or reusable bags but stores are not permitted to use plastic

Every baby comes with blessings. It can be financially, spiritually, with some type of blessing. Sometimes, we wonder how things are falling into place or if it's all manifested, but truely, it's the child that comes with blessings for us.

You have to bring your own reuseable grocery bags if you dont want to use plastic in Texas. Cali and NY have banned the plastic bags but Texas isnt about banning things. If you bring your own and use them they'll bag them for you in your reuseable bag.It's not all of America. But def texas.

You can get paper bags at most grocery stores… Also, all of the stores have recycling bins for the plastic bags to be recycled

Organic is not really better for you nutritionally. That’s a myth. Is is however more expensive

I shop Walmart and use their reusable bags never the plastic bags. They cost .99 at the checkout counter. Loving your blogs!! Trader Joe’s is in Dallas so I bet it’s in Houston. Sprouts is a great place for veg and fruit shopping!

My computer says there are 3 Trader Joes in the Houston area...just FYI You need to keep your own reuseable bags in your car and when you go shopping you take them into the store..

Hill country is beautiful! We go to Fredricksberg every summer!! Rent a house on the outskirts of the town then explore so much to see the town itself it’s perfection! Nice winery’s, loads of lovely little shops and places to eat!

Trader Joe’s is national however it’s just in certain affluent areas. Regarding plastic bags, each state is different. In NJ they banned them two years ago, Texas just doesn’t care 😅😅.

Walmart and Target recycle the bags you bring them back. Also you just need to bring reusable bags in any store you shop and use your own bags. They sell bags in the store just not at the checkout. But that should change! 😊

I believe there are some farmers’s markets in your area which would, I imagine, have fresh fruit, veg,cheese,meats,fish etc and a wide variety of produce which would possibly be cheaper than a supermarket.

That's so crazy! I haven't seen a plastic grocery bag in so long! Single use plastic bags have been banned in Australia for YEARS 🎉 if you don't bring your own re usable bags you have to buy more or carry your shopping, there just is no other option - come on merica 🤞🏻

OMG! It is not true at all that we don't use reusable shopping bags, they are literally everywhere, very visible and readily available near the checkouts. I keep mine in my car for that purpose. Texas does not promote it as well as California does but really it's every individuals responsibility to use reusable bags so don't blame the stores for what you are not doing!!!

That might just be a walmart thing! Most places in America either dont even offer bags at all (you must use your own) or they charge you for a bag as an incentive to have you bring your own next time
