I've got a cheap knockoff strat my stepdad got for $30 when I was fifteen. My first electric. I recently sent it to a repair shop to get it fixed up a little bit, and it's staying in my possession till either I die or it does. Whichever comes first

My most sentimental guitar is my very first. It's a crappy Checkmate acoustic guitar that my grandpa gave to me. It was literally being thrown out and he saved it because I was wanting to start playing. I never had any plans to part with the guitar, but it became even more important and valuable to me after he died. It's worth absolutely nothing for resale, but it means the world to me....

me too. had a crappy strat before it which i sold, no sentimental value there, the thing was bad and was holding my learning back (I wasn't enjoying any playing or learning until i got the dot). i still have the dot, it now has an oil city pickup (forces sweetheart I believe is the model name) in the back and gibson 57 classic in the neck. electronics otherwise is original, tuners are great to be honest and tuning stability is not so bad that I would rush to change the nut. i will at some point for sure. also i am going to swap to a gibson style es335 pickguard as i don't like the flappy epiphone one. loving that guitar, although to be honest, you can tell it is a lower tier guitar, i have held and had much more quality instruments (even at a similar price point)

I have a Dot from 2002 I bought on the spot based on 5 minutes of play time at a local music shop. I had 3 Les Pauls by then, 2 1977’s and a 1955 Junior, but that Dot and I just connected. Still one of my favorite guitars. All the electronics eventually died, and ai accidentally killed the neck pickup that I loved taking the cover off of it (something I had done countless times before, and THAT was the one I messed up on), but that turned out to be a blessing, as the Seth Lovers that replaced them aren’t ever coming out.

A guitar I'll never get rid of is this 1950's to 1960's Hofner parlor guitar I got from my grandpa like 15 years ago. Aside from it being from my grandpa, I could never get rid of it. It's so old that the sound it has acquired from its age accompanied with nylon strings produces its own reverberation that I've yet to play on any other acoustic guitar. Steel string or nylon stringed. Even with a warped neck (so old it didn't get a truss rod) the notes are still relatively intontated due to it having a 0 fret. That and my Epiphone LP Black Beauty III. I custom build guitars now and have a LP Double cut Jr I built, along with maple topped on mahogany body strat and tele, with figured wood necks finished natural, that are probably superior but still won't get rid of it. I Still hit that middle humbucker all the time but it's just too beautiful. Not like the Chinese ones they make today. This Korean one has the right tinting to the binding and headstock despite it being a polyeurathane based finish. Not overly yellowed like the Epiphone 1955 reissue or the new Bonamassa LP customs. The headstock custom logo looks sincerely like it's aged mother of pearl. Epiphone really fucked up going to China in my opinion.

Still have my Epiphone Standard Plus I bought with my own money and like you was the biggest purchase I made with my own money. 15yrs later still have it and I have modded the crap out of it. Almost sold it to have funds for a Gibson but decided not too and I'm glad I didn't, it holds a special place in my heart. Like what you said, "It feels like coming home".

I absolutely love this. Seeing you take care of these old guitars that have so much personal meaning to you is inspiring for me to do the same with my first electric - an old Peavey Raptor with this pinkish-purple finish. It's a piece of junk but I adore it, and it is an integral part of the person I am today. Gonna have to take a serious look at it after watching this. Thank you for doing this series and sharing the love and the memories. And the demo track is sick, filled with a sort of nostalgia itself, love the blend of metal sensibilities and pop punk vibes.

This was really cool to watch. My first guitar was an 05 Epi G310 SG. Made in Korea like yours, with a C shaped neck. It’s a bolt on SG, so a lot of people will write it off instantly, but it’s actually a really solid guitar especially for the price my parents paid for it. Still have it, still pick it up here and there, but it could definitely use some upgrade love like you gave your g400 here. Going to have to look into that for a summer project.

These are going up steadily in value! I just bought one for 200. Now I own three vintage Gibsons and two fenders (along with some others) and the SG can really give the Gibsons a run for their money! The pickups are eh but definitely not bad. Thinking of putting some GFS pickups in it because I’m only in the guitar 200 bucks. Thanks for the video Hunter, you’re the reason I went back to the shop and picked it up after initially leaving it!

I have an original 88 HM Strat. I love this guitar and she’s been played long and hard. I would never get rid of it, she was my first so never shall we part ways. I need to go through all the electrical but I don’t want anything replaced. I want to keep it original. Just something about those old Japanese crafted guitars. Keep doing what you do man!

I have a PRS SE 245 Single Cut, bought it, brand new less than 10 years ago, for $250. It was OK. But the neck was a total beast. I replaced everything that wasn’t glued in. The neck/ body, nut, and bridge are all original. Took some 600 grit sandpaper to the neck. It has scars, dents, dings, and chips. The frets need replaced but I love that thing. I recently bought a Collings DC 290 S, basically a Double Cut Junior, and it’s my dream guitar, but I’ll tell you right now, that PRS SE is every bit as great and maybe more special to me. That guitar is NEVER leaving. Great video Hunter, that Epiphone is so bad ass, something great about guitars with necks that are like the business end of a baseball bat that makes you never wanna touch a Wizard 2 neck.

I’ve got. ‘95 Korean Epi LP custom that needs the same upgrades as you’re doing in this video. Like you said, only doing the cool stuff is a great way to do the guitar journey. I taught myself how to build a partscaster and solder last year when I was quarantined all alone for 30 days, and it was one of the best times of my life. I felt like I was on a mediation/quest thing and I look back at those days with such fondness. That track was killer, I love pop punk too man🤘🤘

I own an ‘81 Ibanez Blazer, “Izzy”, which is basically the family guitar. 4 or 5 of my relatives banged around on it before me. I got it when I was 8 years old, and it was my main guitar growing up. It’s not a very good instrument, with dinky little frets, rusted hardware, and electronics issues, but I’d never sell it. One day I’m going to fix it up, even though it probably isn’t worth putting expensive parts into. I’d like to pass it on to my children one day.

Hunter, that’s an absolutely kick ass Epiphone, maybe have it refretted someday, I had an old Charvel model 3a (white) was the first guitar I bought with my own money when I was 17, way back in 1987. I had a friend that’s an amazing luthier from Chicago (Kurt Wilson) who makes amazing guitars to this day, he did a refrett job and it made that guitar so much fun to play again. Great video, cool tune too 🤘

Oh man, you got the fancy Epi! My "forever" nostalgia guitar is the none-more-black Epiphone LP Studio I got in 2007. It was my only guitar until I graduated from high school, and I *abused* the thing at gigs, talent shows, and kicking around town. Swapped the tuners and bridge, eventually went to a Bigsby which stayed, bone nut, first pick up swap to some cheapo no-name PAFs which led to me putting in Jimmy Page push/pull wiring, then EMGs, and ultimately Duncan P-Rails with two three way toggles drilled BETWEEN THE MAIN CONTROLS to switch sounds. It's got cracks and dings, weighs a metric shit ton, and has gross stuff in the pick up routes but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I went absolutely berserk on my 2005 Chinese epiphone G400 two years ago: sanded down all the thick poly finish and redid it with a thin satin brown nitro, gave it Duncan P-Rails, a Bigsby and basically did everything from scratch. It is a hobby project guitar, you can see and feel it, I didn't do the best job refinishing it, but I love the feel, the sound, the little imperfections, the smell... Would never want to part with it.

Hii Hunter, good story and good vid, My Harley Benton Flying V, had it since 2008/09, its my 2nd guitar and still got it, the neck pickup died after 4 years of Rough Riffage haha, but the bridge... ooh man its still alive, everything is stock and (almost) never get out of tune, a guitar and a memory i never let go

Kudos to you keeping that guitar. In '88 I had a Pre-Gibson bright yellow HSS Lefty Kramer with a Kahler trem (see my Instagram for an old photo). Had to sell it to pay for university. Then twenty odd years later that same 80's Kramer painted red appeared on Reverb. Unfortunately the dude wouldn't ship to Japan and then a few days later the listing disappeared. Ah well, so is life. Maybe this is the Metal Gods way of telling me to let go of the old and embrace the new.

2004 Gibson SG Platinum that I got used for $400. Needed a lot of TLC but I swapped out the pickups, the wiring I upgraded to a Jimmy Page style with 4 push/pull pots and swapped out the heavy Grover tuners for hipshots with tulips buttons which resolved any neck dive it had and swapped out the fake aluminum pickguard for white leather! She sings like crazy now! In for a penny in for a pound as they say! It’s also my only HH guitar.

Nice job, man. My jank-master guitar is a 1991 Ibanez EX series, which was an experimental series they put out for I think two years. I had been playing metal bass and saw this at a pawn shop for $100 so I picked it up. Cherry sparkle paint job, left-over from the 80s. Licensed Floyd Rose which I didn't know how to deal with when I was young so for many years I just screwed it down all the way. And the piece d'resistance is a thick ass neck that you don't see on Ibanez. It fights back like a Les Paul. It's not comfortable in the least. But I learned some metal licks on it, learned how to manage the floyd rose. I replaced the Licensed with a standard, replaced all hardware and electronics, put a Seymour Duncan Distortion in it, and I use it all the time for chugs and squeals on my recordings.

I have a 2003 epiphone les paul, that a put all of my Dean dime o flame parts in. The deans neck was broken and my les paul didn't chug, so naturally I combined the two. Also installed a graptech nut on it. One of the best playing guitars I have, thanks dad!

Made my first kit guitar a little over a year ago- a Solo T style. Sanded it. Stained it. Built it. Wired it. Later modded it. Cost about 500 bucks in total, and I wouldn't take anything for it. The satin finish on the neck feels like silk sheets.

I have a very late Korean G-400 Standard with a maple neck that’s been heavily modified and low-rent converted into an SG Junior configuration. Low-rent as in I put an aftermarket batwing pickguard cut for a Dimarzio soap bar P-90 I had lying around, stripped the awful poly finish off and sprayed it white. Oiled the back of the bare neck, and plugged the empty holes for the neck pickup controls with Ace Hardware metal hole plugs. Add an import Bigsby, and I’ve got a pretty cool SG Junior for cheap. I love the neck on that guitar.

The guitar I'd never part with is my old, plywood body Vantek Strat ripoff. It was the first guitar I ever owned, and the only one I had for many years. It's 27 years old now. I just tore it down and put a new, black pickguard and pickups in it, new tuners, new strap buttons and new bridge. All in black. I polished the frets up smooth and cleaned it thoroughly. It plays half decent and sounds ok. It just has so many miles and tons of memories attached to it. It'll never go anywhere.

Hello Hunter ,my favorite guitar is a fender strat ressuie 62 ' from 1993 . It's a gift from my Father (passed away in 2003) ,this guitar is in fiesta red ,with mapple neck and fretboard ,all part now is cream . I have a bettie page pinup sticker on pickguard ,and i mounted with my father a special wiring . We add 2 mini switch ,1 to make bridge and neck position ,and 3 pickups all together , and the second to make humbucker position (neck and middle ,middle and bridge ) ,. My guitar need to have new fret and a to work the neck (maybe new one) ,but i don't make change on it . I don't play it anymore . I make a replica with same look and configuration but brand new . My number 1 I’ll never get rid of is my Gibson LPJ. It’s basically a les Paul studio from 2013 but with a maple neck instead. I’ve swapped pickups in and out of it so many times and while it’s not my best playing guitar it has a special place in my heart. If not for that guitar I would not be where I am today.

I've got a G-400 just like yours. I haven't modded it out or anything like that though. I can't really remember which year I got it. It was either '05 or '06. All I do know is that I love it to death. It's just fun to have and play on.

the way i connect the pickup wires to the pots is i put my cardboard template (with the already connected pots and all) above the control cavity opening, connect the pickups, then drop in the whole thing. gives me better access for soldering.

Mine is a 2014 120th Anniversary Gibson LPJ (basically an even more stripped down studio). It was a gift from my parents for my 18th birthday, its had about 5 different rewires, moved the switch down to the controls, had a Duesenberg les trem fitted and tonnes of wear from gigs. And I still don't really like how it sounds haha, not to mention I have to use a strap thicker than the body to not destroy my spinal column when I play it standing up. But now at age 25 its the guitar that's been with my for the longest and I could never see myself parting with it, even it just ended up in a case under the bed or stuck in the corner.

My #1 guitar to this day is a dark metallic blue squier affinity strat. Its the first guitar I ever put my own money into for $100 about 9 or 10 years ago. I've since put about another $300 or $400 into it in the form of mods. It has a Seymour duncan hotrails in the bridge, and an poorly wired classic stack plus in the middle with no neck pickup, featuring a custom pick guard from warmoth so there's no hole lol. The saddles came off a Mexican fender bridge so they're bent steel instead of cast whatever from squier. It has unbranded fender style locking tuners, and a left handed whammy bar. I love this thing to death. So much character from the whammy bar and the pickup configuration, and I know the neck on it inside out. It has a couple stickers on it, and a matching fender strap with a white racing stripe locked down with ernie ball strap locks. You’re one of the smart few that held onto their first guitar. Wished I had my old BC Rich iron bird and my cheesy Hondo Les Paul copy from the 80’s. Even now that I have really nice guitars. I still wished I had my first and second guitars. I made my kid hold onto his first cheapy Ibanez. Even though he has killer guitars now too. He still plays his 150$ Ibanez. In all fairness to him, he had no intention of parting with it. Despite the fact that he owns Gibson’s and other nice guitars. He still loves that guitar because it’s the one that started him on his journey. He’s actually modded it quite a bit too to keep it relevant to his playing. It’s got Nazgul pickups and a really nice set of locking tuners he bought for it. So despite it not being worth a whole lot itself, it definitely punches above its weight class. And still plays pretty damn good. Hold onto your first guitar! Even if it’s complete shit. It’s a snapshot in time you won’t fully appreciate til much later in life. 🤘🏻

My sentimental guitar is definitely my tele My first electric guitar, squire tele that I have in the decade I’ve owned it modded the shit out of it, but I love it because even in its 52’ blonde stock state It still held up to playing Sepultura, Slayer and Carcass riffs It now has been stripped, refretted and refinished in purple satin, with Bareknuckle True Grits a Tele bridge and p90 neck pickups Still my go to guitar from blues to death metal

I’ve got two guitars. 2016 Gibson SG faded in worn brown. All original parts but the tuning stability has always been an issue. The look of it is so awesome though I’m never going to get rid of it. Reminds me of an SG version of the George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster. Most likely will sort out the tuning issues and then it will be a beast! I also want to do a mod project on my first guitar: a 2001 Squier affinity strat. I’ve seen so many possibilities for upgrading pretty much everything on the guitar I will do it when I have some spare cash.

Not sure if anyone already posted this, but you can get colored super glue from StewMac, including White. (I use the Black one all the time on any number of my beaters.) Looks like the perfect candidate for practicing some finishing work/repair. 🛠️ Who knows, might make for a neat sponsored video?

I just discovered your stuff! Awesome job. I was wondering, I love how the Epiphone Prophesy LesPaul sounds, so I ordered some Fishman Fluence Modern pickups for my home made 24 fret SG shape. Now you got me thinking about adding another pickup! How would 3 Fishmans sound? Would I need to install 2 battery boxes? AND an Evertune plus Grover locking tuners! Lol. Add-ons never end.

I have 2 now 1. Epiphone Explorer 1984 EX,I really wanted an explorer and I couldn't wait any longer for the prophect series to come out so I bought it on ebay,supposedly used. When I opened the box,it was basically brand new,had an origami swan in the packing and a nice little note that said "enjoy." I had never been any happier than with anything I've ever purchased. Seeing as it came from Japan I probably had little if anything to worry about. 2. ESP LTD GH-600 NT,I had always wanted an LTD eclipse so the first time I saw this guitar in the store,I didn't expect much. Hell playing it almost gave me a blister. Fast forward a year later when this exact model was discontinued,I knew I had to get it. I sacrificed a Killswitch Engage concert to secure this guitar lol. I'm glad I did though because of all the guitars I've owned and played,it has one of the most comfortable necks I've ever felt. The red emgs,red binding and the locking tuners were a huge plus for me. But man this guitar also made me fall in love with the latter. Never gonna get rid of it

My first "serious" Guitar was a MIM Fender Stratocaster. I hated it... it just wasn‘t pleasant to look at (it was just a basic, blue Strat) and i had to put a lot of Mods in it to kinda like it. But i made memories with it. This Guitar reminds me of all the Friends i met in the Time i had it, of all the funny moments and the feeling of freedom back then. Now it‘s my favorite Guitar.

Very good presentation of something you have a connection with. Mine is easy: 1986 Ibanez RS-135. First electric guitar, and an odd duck Korean model that is the missing link between the Roadstar - RG families. It's the first series with the new headstock, yet not an RG. Would love to find an 85 version MIJ as "twin".

I love these stories. My first real guitar was an ibanez rg and I played it every day for years. I feel bad because I recently got a new fender and the rg has been neglected. But you better believe that when I want to play something in drop c the rg is the first thing I pick up. Maybe ill put some new pickups in it.

After parting with my Washburn n1nmk I (regrettably so) I decided to get a Washburn x series, and it was from this out of the city farm like place in where I used to live, it was already not the best option but it felt right and for 50 bucks it was worth it (only $250+ guitars were available at the time) and its been through hell and back, from the electronics straight up giving in, the middle pickup being accidentally drilled through, the claw screws blowing out and the bridge cavity snapping off and having stickers and decals super glued to it, its just come back stronger and adding more battles scars, her name is Frankie just cause of the sheer amount of fixing and piecing together I've done to her, now I'm not the best luthier nor do I consider myself one, she isn't the most expensive guitar with the most expensive parts (not yet of course) she still has the most sentimental value to me out of all my other guitars and I have no plans on ever parting ways with her

The guitar I will never get rid of is my Epiphone Les Paul Special II AFD Edition. I bought for myself for my 50th B-day. I had only been playing 4 years. I wanted a guitar that said Les Paul on the head stock. I had popped into GC and saw the AFD on the wall, played it, loved it bought it. It's my first of what I hope will be other Les Paul's either Epiphone or Gibson.

As a bass player I can completely relate to finding it hard adjusting to different neck radius'. My go to is my modded Epi Thunderbird and the neck is so thin what whenever I pick up any other bass the neck just feels wrong.

Only have 2 guitars. A 9lb boat anchor of a strat clone from a company called Tradition, paid like $200 for it in 2002. The other is my baby, a late 2000's BC Rich ASM-1 that my dad modded for me while he was working ex-pat in Afghanistan. I love both of them, and I don't ever plan on letting them go.
