The officer jacket is Spes' latest jacket, and offers something new in weight and style! It is available to buy at the link below. histfenc.com/productcart/offic...
Nice. UPS will deliver mina today. I usually have a plastic protector under my prototype SPES Hussar jacket and I will do the same with the Officer jacket. I hope that this will approve its level of protection on the sides.
It would be very similar then, and they will do it if you ask. But it cannot take the shoulder inserts due to the cut. But I'd not recommend either for really heavy tournament use.
Yeah, I thought you might say that. Sadly I can't really justify buying a whole new jacket right now if I couldn't use it for certain things. I'll gaze on it from afar for now.
How well does it work with long sword? You said it there's a little restriction with a dagger in your left hand so I'm wondering if that transfers to long sword
Do you recommend this jacket for french style of historical fencing? Meaning left arm always up...with a lot of hema jackets i have the feeling that they are very bulky because they have padding (or at least a stroonger fabric) on the shoulders, so it makes it an obstacle keeping a good form where the left arm is up (like in angelos smallsword treatise). Also with doing this (having the shoulders/arm up) the collar will be pulled up towards your chin, which feels like an obstacle. How about this jacket? can you move your left arm towards the sky and keep it there without the collar beeing disruptive on your chin/neck? I ask because i'm looking for an alternative to sportsfencing jackets that offer the same mobility with a little bit more protection on the chest and right side of the body.
Yes I would. Most HEMA jackets do have good shoulder mobility, but indeed the bulk and weight of extra padding can make it awkward for holding guard positions like that. In which case the best jackets would be this officer or the SPES Light AP. Overally the light AP is my preferred as I think the cut is better and more comfortable, especially at the shoulders, and the padding can be taken out to give it the same weight as the officer jacket.
Depends how you like your fit. So long as the arms are well cut to provide easy movement, then I like a quite a fitted cut that doesn't lift or move about. Just needs enough room to move well and breath. This one is tighter at the shoulders than my other jacket for the reasons I mention in the video.
Thank You for this review :) What is this Red AP to which You compare it ? It dont looks like histfenc.com/produkt/kurtka-szermiercza-ap-350n but its also not a Hussar, Thank You for answer ! :)
It is the new 'Light AP', not yet on their shop. Review coming soon. A half weight version of the AP model, with insertable pads and new inner fabric. Its wonderful.
