Sure, they probably didn't market it like they should have, but JIVE was far from underground....(They soon abandoned all rap in favor of Britney Spears and top 40 shit) btw TBB was, and is one of the best albums of all time. Starts with that dedication to Pac without mentioning his name once... damn that was tight and respectful. Clowns like The Game drop Pac's name 30x per album and never met the man once.
I noticed through my rap listening career, specializing in Bay Area rap, that almost everyone used live bass on their tracks. Too $hort started that giving props to the greats of funk like Bootsie Collins and George Clinton. It's why West Coast sucked my in even after I got my start with East Coast rap. @818 BUDS on IG

The good old days when they told stories over dope beats bomb ass hooks... Yes. Old school is the greatest. Old school meaning rappers between 80's -90's. Of course the founders go without saying. The Black Bossalini album was the perfect bridge from Spice 1's early 187 He Wrote, 1990 Sick, AmeriKKKa's Nightmare -to- The post Jive Spice 1 (which I think is his best work) of Spiceberg Slim, Tha Ridah, NTA, The Truth. People that bump 187 He Wrote give props, but I smirk at them for not even knowing about the post 2000 Speezie Ace.
