It happens when the mixture of eggs and water is not mixed well. Beat it for a while and cook it over between low and medium. It should rise. Good luck! : )

Maangchi, i grew up in Hawaii which is a melting pot for many Asian cultures. I had a neighbor who was Korean and she used to bring us a small jar of water kimchi, regular spicy kimchi, and squid “kimchi” (not sure if it kimchi but it tasted like it). Watching your videos brings me back to my childhood and running outside to my neighbors house and she would greet me with her jars of kimchi ❤️❤️❤️

Is the squid ojingeo-jeot? Thin slices of squid marinated in a spicy paste. I believe Maangchi has a recipe for that too!

Actually there is squid kimchi in Korea. It called "Mo-jeot(모젓)", is southeastern province of Korean food, different from fermented squid. It is generally made with squid, radish, fish sauce, garlic and spicy pepper powder. If there was radish you tasted, it is definitely Mo-jeot.

마자.. 모두 맛있는 것들..밥은 정말 저렇게 챙겨먹으면.. 배부르게 먹더라도 속이 편안하고.. 행복해지는것 같아요.. 요즘 이거저거 해먹기 귀찮아서..반찬 한두개 해서 한끼에 다먹고 치우고 그러는데.. 보기만해도 행복하네요 정말..

Yum yum! I love it! It was super easy and impressed my guests, who were definitely new to Korean food. We also had kimchi, sigeumchi-nameul, tofu pickles, braised pork/lettuce wraps, mandu, as well as bibimguksu. They asked for all the recipes! Thank you, Maangchi! Love you!!! 💞

Thank you so much for this easy and yummy recipe. Since I dont have an earthenware pot I use instead ramekins in the oven and cover it with a 2nd ramekin. It worked perfectly! Thank you

저렇게 큰 새우가 들어가다니! 맛있게 잘 부풀은 계란찜에 한 번 놀라고, 커다란 새우가 들어간 애호박 볶음에 두 번 놀랐네요ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 정말 맛있을 것 같아요! 계란찜 자주 만들어 먹는데 매콤한 계란찜도 시도해 봐야겠네요 :)

Ah maangchi :( how you reminds me of my Mom and makes me miss her so much now :((( She used to cook for me and my brother simple dishes made from simple ingredients like this. This kind of steam eggs are really one of our favorites from her. The way you prepare the dish until u eats it, just warms my heart. God bless you Maangchi!

Instead of using your fingers to crush the sesame seeds (which would take forever and cause sore fingers), I recommend just placing the sesame seeds in a plastic bag and then pounding it with a hammer or the bottom of a can or anything heavy if you don't have a hammer.

망치님 레시피대로 해 먹었는데 볼케이노처럼 이쁘게 잘 올라왔어요! 이틀동안 아침마다 만들어서 둘째날에는 깨를 으깨지 않고, 절구로 갈아서 넣었더니 정말 맛있었어요ㅠ 여태 새우젓만 넣어서 만들었었는데 ㅠㅠ 내일도 또 만들어 먹을거 같아욧! 콩나물국 레시피 보고 역시 한국인의 소울 반찬은 계란찜!이지!! 하고 다시 와서 댓 남겨요 ㅎㅎㅎㅎ

계란찜 뚜껑 여는순간 우와~~~~했어오ㅠㅠ 엄청나게 봉긋하네요ㅠㅠ 계란찜있으면 밥한공기 뚝딱이죵ㅜㅜ 다음에 해먹으면 이 레시피대로 고춧가루 넣어볼게요..!!

It seems like a million. years ago now, but in the 80's I had 2 Korean friends. I was a member of a ceramic studio, and I remember the heavenly smell of Yon Sil's sesame noodles. We met on Saturday's, and when the spirit moved us, we'd bring in food to share. Yon Sil usually brought in sesame noodles, and we could smell them as she walked into the room. Heavenly! Unlike every sesame noodle I have had in any and every restaurant since, the noodles weren't covered in this thick, gunky peanut sauce. The noodles looked almost as though nothing was on them. But, ohhhhh, the taste! And the smell! To this day, I can still smell Yon Sil's noodles. I worked with a lovely Korean, who's name I am forgetting now, and she brought in her grandmother's gimbche. I had never tasted anything like it and loved it immediately. She brought in a rice cooker and would make us all soup, noodle soups mostly, and we'd have noodle soup with gimbche for lunch. I've always wanted to learn how to make Korean food the way it is made in homes across Korea, and I'm so glad I found you. I'm not sure how I missed your cookbook. I have shelves and shelves of cookbooks, but I seemed to have missed it. Fortunately, there is Amazon! Anyway, I'm late to the party it seems, but I'm here now! Thank you so much. I tried it and it was delicious! My dad shared it together and he wiped his plate clean. I don't eat meat so I replaced the chicken stock with vegetable stock and it worked super well

what I love about gyranjjim is that it is one of the few egg dishes that do not overwhelm with egg taste (a lot of paleo ppl "have" to eat a lot of eggs) (I sometimes add a lot of fresh herbs to mine)
