Spider-Man 1 changed up the game so much for superhero movies and it was a damn great one. It still holds up (un)surprisingly well and is a great rewatch
What I find really weird is that this is these are the only live action adaptations with Robbie Robertson. It feels like every adaptation after this excludes him for some reason with how huge of of role he plays with him being one the only few that likes spider man and calls Jameson out on his bs. He's one of my favorite supporting characters in spider man and I wish him and his son Randy got more respect.
@@kadegetslaid634I think in the second amazing spider man Peter worked for Jameason he texted him an email but we don't see him. And in daredevil that wasn't Robbie that was Ben urich he's race swapped in the show.
What May and Ben are to Peter, is essentially the Ma and Pa Kent to Clark, and this adaptation absolutely nails their portrayal, casting, and accuracy.
One thing that I really liked about this film was that it made the spider that bit Peter bright red and blue, thereby giving the colors he chooses for his costume more context. I mean...yeah,he originally designed his costume to be eye-catching for the career in wrestling he was planning, but I like that the film gave a reason for why he chose those specific colors.
I just watched this the other night. I went to see the Riami trilogy in theaters when I was a kid and saw most of the Tom Holland movies, with the exception of Civil War. It's a great movie, with having a lot of stuff from various comics and the 90s show while also changing up the character dynamics like Flash and Harry's relationship.
Agreed. My favorite interpretations of Spidey and his story are definitely the Spectacular series, the playstation game one, and Tobey Magurie. Then it goes Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield which I also like (eh throw the 90s cartoon in there too).
This was my lowkey childhood movie The origin and the best portrayal of the tragedy of Uncle Ben’s death scene , the fights with the goblin and the interpersonal relationship drama that Peter Parker had
Funny enough they were close to making an actual accurate 616 Goblin look for the movie. There is test footage of the mask moving around and it is kind of terrifying but supposedly it wasn't comfortable for an actor to be in, so it wasn't used.
I sometimes randomly get nostalgia from this movie idk if I watched it during my childhood but ik I definitely watched it recently and it was absolutely amazing
One small difference is how in the comics the spider that bit Peter was just a random spider that was caught in the middle of an experiment while in the movie the spider was just experimented on.
14:29 Norman does, though. In the movie, it’s said he tried to put Harry in diffe schools because he saw his potential. It’s even proven in No Way Home when he talks about being in another universe
In terms of recreating events and set pieces it’s very comic accurate. But in terms of character behavior… Spider-Man is much nicer and not selfish enough, Norman isn’t pure evil enough he’s corrupted. MJ isn’t selfless enough.
#MakeRaimiSpiderman4 I think an arc for the last movie fits well with the plot point SM-3 didn't finish and adds to all of this story as a whole too , being pretty awesome to be the final struggle/ lesson for this spiderman . We see that Peter was giving up on being with MJ after getting rid of the symbiote and gave back the ring to Aunt May , we see this kind of thing happen throughout the movies , he gives up on happiness or a satisfying life for spiderman which doesn't end up working well in the long run even for spiderman cuz he's only human in this aspect , can only push for so long when his personal life is in shambles and that starts affecting his spiderman job too , this is THE part that makes him human . Now u may say he got over this in SM-2 and he won't lose the powers anymore , sure , but his mental state at the very least will still get affected which will reduce his efficiency which ends up mattering a lot sometimes , this is a very real thing , even if it's not bad enough for ur body to be falling apart , that kind of mental state still prevents u from being the best u can be . Maybe it doesn't have to be this way , maybe Peter doesn't have to step back completely and outright give up on things in his personal life but just take a break and figure out the balance , maybe it's not his destiny to be miserable but just keep pushing till he makes it , cuz he IS growing he IS learning and progressing when he tries that . He has always needed others to motivate him towards doing this though , like MJ in SM-2 and Aunt May in SM-3 , and by himself he always gives up which only works in the short term . So in the final movie he should learn to keep pushing for this by himself , maybe u could have Aunt May become sick in this one playing an important role in this too ? Because last thing she wants for Peter is " make it right in time " , we could have more scenes in the new movie putting more emphasis on her wanting Peter to live a happy life. It will be even gold to have a scene like " be this my destiny " from comics in this , not sure if it should have the same Aunt May needing the cure or not , but just the trapped under rubble scene after being really tired and not being able to lift it for a good while after trying so much, but simply not settling for going down there with something like " i did my best " , no , choosing to break through his limits no matter how and not giving up anymore till the very end and finally being able to lift it off. I'm not setting up some rigid expectation of this specific scene but just making clear how a perfect final movie is still left . This theme of gaining absolute will and determination , not giving up on a sustainable life as both Peter and spiderman and finally achieving it , whether the specific scenes i mentioned are there or not . There is a possibility of this awesome final movie that actually ends all plot points with a wholsome ending and some people are like nah SM-3 ended things pretty well. People who want it should definitely not be influenced by these opinions which imply that SM-4 is bound to feel less than the previous ones . Sam still wants to do this , i trust that if he makes it he'll make something meaningful as he said he wanted to back then , cuz he walked off in the first place because it wasn't fully ready when the studio didn't want to wait anymore , saving us from a lazy cashgrab.
Toby was so much more grounded, despite being a story about superpowers. Every conversation was realistic. Yeah, some lines feel awkward, but who is perfect? Many people are awkward af with people. Maybe just awkward people understand and feel it with Toby. It's also before the time of making constant jokes and letting the tension grow. The jokes made were somewhat subtle or so much so that you miss them, which is preferred over jokes at the expense of the movie.
in my opinion I think the amazing Spider-Man is better than Spider-Man 1 it’s not bad but tasm 1 was the first Spider-Man movie I have ever saw and tasm 2
the only other movie before Spider-Man that wasn’t scared of their “goofy roots” was the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve. also although Flash wasn’t given any screen time to grow and change as a character it was still nice to see him show up in Spider-Man 3 at Harry’s funeral. It shows he wasn’t a jerk deep down or anything. TASM Flash is the superior version but Raimi Flash isn’t offensive like MCU Flash.
Does anyone ever question how old Peter parents were? If aunt may is like 70 and Peter typically becomes Spiderman at the age of 15. How old is his parents?? Did they just have Peter super late? Was his dad super old and his mom is super young? The age gap is not making sense
This movie kickstarted my love for Spider-Man, and I keep hearing rumors of Tobey returning for secret wars but after No Way Home I wish mfs would let Tobey hang up the webs 😭
Idc about Secret wars . SM-3 wasn't a proper ending to the story and SM-4 needed to happen to end it on the greater note Raimi wanted and studio didn't give Raimi enough time but instead was meddling with characters again , so Raimi walked off . Now at least with nwh confirming Peter and MJ made it work they shouldn't try to do some nonsense with black cat . Why do u want others to ask for something awesome that they like? How does this hurt u i don't understand u people . Why can't people just do and watch what they like?
I don't think it's inspired by Ultimate comics pretty sure everytime among the many anything is mentioned about comics regarding this movie is always the classic 616 ones like the actors prepping for their roles or Raimi picking villains , he practically grew up on those .
The Peter side is best adapted here, but the Spidey side was done waaaay better in Amazing Spider-Man. The Tom Holland version is middle of either side. I think this movie does have some small hints of the (OG) Ultimate Universe Spider-Man origin it as well, as he did wear a costume in his match instead of webbed mask. The line is with great power THERE MUST ALSO comes great responsibilty. Well the ladiesman part did come later in Spidey's life, so for 1st movie he can be a bit more akward. The organic webbing idea is a holdover from James Cameron's version of Spider-Man movie. Well the suit of Green Goblin is the least accurate part of Green Goblin. It is isn't even close 2 the (OG) Ulimate Universe version, whom was already shown before this movie came out. This MJ is a slight mix of main Universe MJ and (OG) Ultimate Universe MJ with a bit of Gwen (of both main and (OG) Ultimate). THe Ultimate universe Harry would do these things, but became more shutin after the Green Goblin attacks. Movie did take a slight cues from that version. J. Jonah Jameson is done perfect. Aunt May is 100% the main universe, nothing from (OG) Ultimate Universe (what is opposite with MCU version). Uncle Ben is done great. Although i do prefer the (OG) Ultimate version. This movie version of Flash Thompson is accurate 2 early days of Main Universe and (OG) Ultimate Version. The character developtment in Main Universe happened later. This movie version is tons more accurate than the MCU version, whom is no way Flash Thompson, that version is more a kid that looks like is getting bullied instead of being a bully.
What ? The movie line was " With greater power comes great responsibility ". Also , organic webbing was due to Sam thinking Peter making artificial webs that big corporations like Oscorp was too unrealistic and distanced him from an average human . He said he's a genius in comics and he's going to keep that but just chose to show it in other ways like understanding Norman's nanotechnology research while being in high school and impressing him and the other nerdy stuff he knew.
@@humanman9920 The original comic line is what i am talking aboot. The James cameron script either had it that Spidey had organic webshooters. Something Sam Raimi agreed with, hence he gave the logic why. Should've been a bit clearer on that 1.
Polemic opinion (for sure), i'm not a huge fan of Spider-man's Sam Raimi trilogy, but i do recognize the value behind those movies. Only one thing that actually piss me off, is that i don't fell Peter is the protagonist of his own movie. Characters like norman and jameson steals the scene every time they show off, and Tobey is just standing there with his butthole face. It's just me, and i now I'm boring
No, definitely not. He’s barely even the same character. He’s more like an alternate version of Peter rather than being a full on adaptation of the original, sort of like the new USN run.
