Never thought one of my favourite PS1 game actually have 2 different variants... As far as I rmember, I got to play the end level named Top Of The World, but I didnt knew anymore where mine are nowadays... 😢

It will be okay! I "archived" my original 'pulled from production' disc only copy a while ago. So you can always emulate it and relive the old days. =)

the reaction was priceless! I do remember a change in the movie trailer after that happened, but hadn't played much of the game so didn't really know what changes were made to the playstation version. I do know MGS2 had some edits made to it after that happened as the first chapter takes place outside NYC so there were probably some changes there, yeah. fantastic find, though!

It does exist. I was beginning to wonder if the 9/11 version actually made it to print. People talk about it but I had never seen it on a actual disc until now. I get why some devs made changes to their games after 9/11 but looking back now, I kind of wished they left the games as is and just put a warning sticker on the case.

As someone who was in the game industry when 9/11 happened (GameShark), knew someone who lost their friend in the towers, know someone who was across the street from the towers, and had contingency plans with coworkers to haul ass back to Chicago in case it got worse (I was an hour outside of D.C.), I totally get the censorship. The emotional state of the population around ground zero was...not well. If it had been released in its time frame, it would have been poorly received by public opinion. Especially with being able to fall off the building, and some of the level names (Crash Flight, Downward Spiral). It was for the best. It would have been seen more as a cash-in than anything else.

Great question! I’m strictly PS1 - there is just too much to cover for it to ever be more than that. However, I’m now part of something bigger. playstationcollective.weebly.com/base-set3.html is going to be a hub of like-minded PlayStation collectors in one central hub. The PS1 section leads back to game-rave.com, and the other libraries lead to other collector’s pages and info. Fin and crew have TONS of PlayStation 2 games and variants to swim through. The site is still in its infancy so a lot of pages are either incomplete or still being built. But keep an eye on it, it’s a monumental undertaking.

When i looked back into this topic today after trying to begin collecting spiderman games for the Playstation to marathon them i didnt expect a video to be this recent lol Glad there is a meathod out there shame its only for sealed or promo copies at the moment Not really up to buying a ton of copies or risking a sealed one but i appreciate the research!

I have a sealed copy of this game with a hole punch in the barcode. I'm noticing the more grey text on the back + the dots on case as well. I suppose my copy could also be a 9/11 edition variant of the game.

Thanks! I really appreciate it! ^_^ Just look for that punched hole, basically. The rest is just patience and hunting. Some variants have taken me a decade to obtain. There is no “I’ll just go and buy it” with some releases.

Since the 9/11 version was recalled (and since copies of it like the one I’ve had for over a decade are disc only), is it possible that the packaging was reused when the 9/11 copies were sent back? It’s altogether possible that some of the copies of the 9/11 version out in the wild were sold by stores that broke the street date and/or missed the recall notice? Also, out of curiosity, does anyone even know have 9/11 copies are floating around?

Garrett! In order: a. Totally possible on the packaging. We don't know how far in the original print run they halted production. b. More than likely, as well as employee purchases at the warehouse levels. My 9/11 SF3 was a warehouse employee purchase that got traded to my old store of all things. c. There's no real way to know, sadly.

The PAL version has promo copies that are for the censored version, so it would make sense if the NTSC-U version does too. Pity that leaves us in a place where it seems there are no real tells for this version. I assume you checked the plastic around the center of the disc and the mould SID codes already and they don't help either?

Discs can have the same IFPI number so that was useless. As for the rest of the ring hub, I wouldn't bother because I am coming from a consumer angle of identification. No store is going to sit there while you hold each disc to a flashlight or drag a scanner around. And you'd be laughed off of eBay trying to explain to a seller what you need done before you may or may not purchase it.

Redump.org doesn't store roms, just the cues for preservation purposes - and to not get them sued out of existence. You can find a complete copy by searching archive.org. @@Iobsterpeterson
