i’m turning 21 tomorrow, and I remember as a kid, every time my parents took me, my little sister, and my older brother to our Granny’s house so they could go on a date night. My little sister doesn’t really remember all this because she was 2 or 3. The three of us are 5 years apart. Anyways, my brother and I knew that every time they took us there, we weren’t going to stay the night, our parents just always picked us up super late, like i’m talking 11pm to 1am, always within or around that time. We always wanted to stay the night but we almost never did. These are some of my favorite memories growing up because every time we stayed at our Granny’s, my brother always had to choose between 3 movies: 1. Enchanted 2. Spider-Man 1 3. Narnia (the first one) The reason Enchanted was on the list, is because it was our little sister’s favorite movie. We always had to watch that first every time so our sister wouldn’t make a fuss when our parents left. So my brother and I always had to choose which movie we watched first because Enchanted didn’t count. My brother was smart he always wanted to watch Narnia first because it’s not as long as Spider-Man. Me on the other hand, I always wanted to watch Spider-Man first because I didn’t like Narnia as much as I liked Spider-Man. So my brother came up with a rule that he said “mom and dad told him” which looking back, that rule was completely bullshit😂! Anyways, the rule was that since he is older, he gets to choose which movie we watch first. Of course me and my dumb 5 year old self believed that and after that we always watched Narnia first (after Enchanted) and then we’d watch Spider-Man after. I understand now that he wanted to save the best for last because every time Spider-Man 1 credits started my parents would walk in the door and I would look at my brother with disbelief. I still think to this day that he is a wizard

Not sure how it is in general, but isn't Jonah's main gripe with Spiderman that he hides his identity. "If he's a good guy, why hide who he is?"- kinda logic?

Ehh, this was more of a “personal morals, bravery in the face of death and integrity” kind of win. In terms of journalistic ethics he’s still a complete train wreck.

Spectacular used this idea for a scene too and its one of my favorite tropes in Spidey stories, Rhino breaks into the Bugle looking for Peter and Jonah signals for him to hide while bullshitting that he only makes contact on email

Actions speak louder than words. That's why show-dont-tell is a rule in writing.

Kind of wish there was an additional scene though. In one of the comics, when Peter first gets his job at the Bugle, yet is struggling to manage holding onto the job the staff questions to why Jameson doesn't fire Peter. Jameson softly replies, "The kid needs help.", where it cuts to reveal a newspaper of Peter's Uncle Ben reported dead, revealing that he knows about Peter's struggle, and decides to allow him to work for him. A short moment but it shows that Jameson despite coming off as a jerk, he was willing to give people like Peter a chance and will stick up for them, despite their differences.

That's the kind of person Jameson is in the comics. Loud mouth, bold, maybe a bit too sure of himself...But, despite of that, he's a man with honor and integrity. Not willing to snitch on Peter, even if it means death, is totally on character for him

In the 90s cartoon Jonah's an asshole but he does do some noble and even kind acts. There's one episode where Peter is framed by the Kingpin and Jameson actually pays Matt Murdock as his defense. There's also another episode where Robbie is arrested and Jameson takes care of his family financially, and also uses the Daily Bugle to ensure Robbie's innocence

It would be easy to let Peter take the fall. "Green Goblin and Spider-Man destroy Daily Bugle building, kill employee". It's an easy headline that excuses Jameson of any wrongdoing, and yet he puts his neck on the line (literally) to protect Peter.

It would make sense for this version of Jonah to keep his mouth shut if he figured out Spider-Man is Peter Parker He's clearly just in this for the money and Peter is giving him headline after headline, with the only decent pictures of the guy everyone is talking about As long as he doesn't acknowledge that he knows, Parker will keep working for him, and if Parker is working for him, that means he's making big bucks Considering how little he's paying Parker, he's practically getting away with grand theft

Yeah same as the other dude no it wouldn’t. Spider sense works like how flys fly away right before you hit/step on them. It’s that but with spiders and thus with a person thus. It has to be lethal or dangerous intent or result. This had neither, it’s like if a room got Smokey, a fly isnt gonna fly away because the smoke is harmful. It’ll just die.

His is dynamic enough to where it would inform him of lethal gas but that’s about it. And even that’s debatable.

@@therickyjimenez it’s like, more impressive than that, sure ofc vision plays a part but it mostly has to do with air molecules and sometimes even electrons in the air and shi. Light changes, vibrations in the air and floor, like all that comes together to where they can sense extremely well when something is coming towards them. However gas doesn’t really mess with nothing like that. Some gas is heavier yeah like mustard gas level lmfao but most gas/smoke is gonna be as thin if not thinner than air and wouldn’t cause a fly to react, well maybe a fly Bc they’re energetic and figity and it may bother their eyes or something but it’s not making a spider move unless it’s completely overtaking it’s air supply (this is a sleeper gas not the kind of smoke you’d use to gas out a raccoon from a hole or something, shoot this in that hole and that raccoon is gonna either not come out or come out woozy asf before promptly going limp. Thus, impossible to react to. Even with warning, as your body wont fall into panic as you truly would want it to. And as it would with smoke (if spidey is in a burning building or is suffering gas poisoning he would definitely realize before dying to smoke or gas essentially choking him to death.) this is just too calm, to nice, too gentle, too summon the panic of the spidey sense.

@@therickyjimenez the first part of my comment I referring to the real life “spider sense” that’s been scientifically documented. Past that, in comics it’s kinda hit or miss and often is just wrote off to be an actually supernatural power which if that’s the case. Idk my point still stands this is just too gentle too soft and too non-lethal to summon the panic of the spidey sense. I don’t think it has to do with the fact it’s not a object whooshing through air. He notices bombs, fkn like robbers about to act. Somebody’s intention to shoot, not the actual act of shooting, their mind fkn planning on pressing the trigger, can all be sensed by the spider sense. And those aren’t moving objects hell some are damn near just concepts before manifested. But all those things are lethal or extremely dangerous, Sleep gas? Not dangerous No spider sense. Makes sense to me.

the rage he showed in 3 was amazing, when a loudmouth like JJ turns quiet-mad you know you should be scared you can tell he was proud of that streak, "haven't printed a retraction in TWENTY YEARS!" we know what he says about spidey is wrong but he really thinks he's extrapolating the truth from these pictures, i love that the truth matters to him despite the irony, he is DISGUSTED by false evidence being used in his paper

Peter could be asking to conceal his name. A good excuse would be Peter not wanting "Spider-Man" to know who he is. Otherwise he wouldn't get such "candid" shots anymore.

JJJ doesn't put credit, he wants the monopoly and doesn't want other papers to allure his only good source.

@@kritikill7779 An alternative to this is Jameson can credit it as "Photo by courtesy" or a variant on that. If I remember correctly, in the movies, Peter is freelance and not on staff, so depending on the terms of Jameson buying his photos, the Bugle may not be required to credit Parker (I seem to remember Jameson didn't pay Parker for his first few photos as well, so even less incentive to credit him). Serves two purposes of not paying him benefits and keeps his identity secret, both for journalistic purposes and competitive purposes (to keep Peter away from the other dailies in town).
