I was wondering same thing, but since mysterio didnt have edith and all tony’s drones, he probably had to set up some actual props to make it look real and also trick fury at the time, idk just my guess

I'm pretty sure Mysterio had a few drones or something if I remember correctly, because he wanted EDITH with the additional drones to create an 'Avengers level threat'. I also think Peter and others got wet because of said drones. Just like other Mysterio fights: drones shoot at structures to create the damage done by the projection. Maybe they were splashing water on people, Idk.

Mysterio never had magic even in the comics. He was a failed actor who used his special effects talent or whatever to become a criminal. So i don't see him getting actual magic

Sorcerers magic is orange and magic from the dark dimension is red or purple so to match mysterios accurate green magic or illusions he could draw power from an ancient Sorcerer or God (nightmare) green magic and that explains why most of his illusions look extremely real and feel real because the power is being drawn from nightmare. (My opinion and thoughts)

It seems that these illusions are not mere "recordings" but there's some sort of AI so that the illusion actually responds to environmental stimulus like recognizing Peter as a threat and punching him. Mysterio didn't know Peter before this moment and definitely could not programme those drones to attack him like that. Talk about taking Machine learning to the next level.

In the old spiderman cartoon Peter actually fought against Hydroman. He was very difficult to beat, but I think he had a weakness to electricity, which stemmed from him and who we at first believed was Mary Jane actually being *imperfect* water clones made by some mad scientist.
