I always thought the weapons scarlet comes up with don't seem to get any credit. This was the first innovative change to Spider's abilities in a LONG time and is still used today especially in the video games.

I love the fanon that Jameson saw through Peter's/Spidey's secret identity instantly and was all mean because he wanted to push him to do better and never become complacent, like tough love taken too far lol

Count how many times Peter and Ben are always pouting about being a clone or whatever and it always ends with them doing the right thing in the end

The Scarlet Spider costume is just awesome. In the PS4 Spider-Man game it was the first alternate chose to unlock. It's one of the few 90s superhero redesigns that looks GOOD and holds up.

I just had an epiphany during this review about why i've always loved seeing 90s kid pop up in your reviews (he's probably my favorite of the recurring supporting characters): He's always happy and excited about whatever it is you're talking about when you cut to him, he's a bottomless well of joy and excitement when it comes to comics, and so far nothing has been able to sap an ounce of his goodwill for all things 90s and comics. Reminds of something Kevin Smith said about Jason Mewes, where he said Jay has never read a bad comic in his life - no matter what God awful crap Kevin gave him to read, when Kevin asked him what he thought afterwards, Jay would say, "It was pretty good, I liked it." At the end of the day, 90s Kid knows what he likes, he's not ashamed of it, there's not a force on earth that can convince him pouches, crosshatching, and grimdark antiheroes aren't the coolest shit he's ever seen, and if you give him the chance, he's all too happy to share about why he loves what he loves and how much he loves it with a sense of childlike wonder and unbridled glee (through the lens of 90s slang, of course). You have to admire that kind of optimistic joy and passion.

You know seeing Aunt May on her death bed (again) brings two things to mind. First is how this storyline death highlights how bad One More Day was. It shows how OMD was NEVER about May or her life. It was all about Peter's guilt. She could die so long as it wasn't his fault. The second is, "You cheated on Uncle Ben with Peter's dad." Curse you Linkara for exposing me to the existence of Trouble.

Last time I was this early, the Clone Saga hasn't yet melted Linkara's brain into goo mixed with grape jelly and mustard

11 years, and I have been a fan for about several years. Can’t say when, but I can say this. I don’t plan to stop being a fan for another few years, thanks to Lewis not only being incredibly funny, but also very nice. Let’s help this show get another few years to last!

I think Scream is also one of the villains on the Spider-Man ride at Universal Studios. Kinda odd that they didn't use Carnage or Venom, but I guess they wanted to have a female villain? Only explanation I can think of...

I love how you just keep using the super smash bros brawl theme

While the ankle pouches/holsters are usually not the best choice aside from an emergency piece, I think it really works for Ben, since the whole Spider Family is frequently crouching. Heck, he could possibly build a mechanism to load fresh web canisters without opening the pouch, so as to be more discrete and quick.

My hope for secret origins month: Martian Manhunter (he owns of that one after all) Silver age Atom/Ray Palmer (to round out the silver age reimaginings) Plastic Man (A very influential golden age character, even if he himself isn't that big) Suicide Squad (would bee nice with another team origin and think they are the most notable that he hasn't covered)

Something that really gets under my skin is the cloning blues thing,especially when it's rammed down your throat. If you're an alter to someone who suffers dissociation, then you can find out or even have direct memories (OSDD-1b) that you're not the host,and as such literally not the real version of yourself. But then when a character turns out to be a fake, they suffer despair, which is fine, but then it goes ON and they decide not to make something of themselves, which makes it feel like there's nothing an alter has for them. It's like "wow. There's real people who are "fake" other people. Have you considered being a hero instead of an asshole about it?" After all, the magic of hero comics is that a hero can be anyone's hero, isn't it?

Despite his overexposure, Venom is still my favorite Spidey villain. I even like the "idea" of him being an anti-hero. An insane villain who tries to be a hero, but doesn't really understand what that means is a pretty intersting idea.

This was my first Spidey comic. I used to constantly scribble down drawings of the characters from it while zoning out back in the day... It's why the Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider is my favoriet super hero character and design to this day.

IIRC, Spider-Man unlimited (like X-Men Unlimited and 2099 Unlimited) existed because they wanted certain franchises to be weekly. And four times a year there would be an extra Tuesday in a month, so in addition to the regular monthly, they'd have larger "quarterly" tittles so that there was never a week without *something* coming out from their head-lining franchises.

I sometimes forget that "The Exile Returns" was the first time Ben Riley adopted the Scarlet Spider identity or that his first fight in the costume was with Venom of all characters. Not that I'm complaining, it's actually one of the better clone saga stories out there. Although I find it amusing that none of the creative teams liked the Scarlet Spider name and look. Maybe they were let down that he wasn't called something like "Blood Spider" or that his costume didn't have like, several pouches on it.

I really hope you'll eventually tackle the Venom miniseries that starts immediately after this saga, Separation Anxiety. Mostly because, despite being a huge Venom nerd, i feel like it needs to be made fun of for how meh at best and bad at worst it is.

I don't know about in the comics proper, but all the guide books I've read and even the Marvel wiki mention that yes, because Ben was never bonded to Venom, his Spider-Sense can detect him and Carnage. Although after the whole Spider-Carnage thing it might be a moot point

A whole month of DC origins? That's almost enough time to cover a third of Hawkman's origins.

Always love when it is a review of a comic I know (usually the Spider-man ones). It makes it funnier! And it is true. The Clone Saga had so much potential when it began. If only they hadn't come with that stupid ''Peter was the clone all along'' thing just for shock value...And then the even worse retcon by the end, bringing Norman Orsborn back to life.
