The biggest problem with this Venom was the lack of screentime. I think the whole "evil Peter Parker doppelganger" version of Venom is a really cool idea. It just needed an entire movie, not 15 mins at the end.
Eddie Brock lived as a coward and he died like a coward, clinging to anything that gives him a speck of power. Props to Topher Grace for his performance, it’s his superb acting skills that make us hate his character.
The funny thing is, every other vilan in this trilogy Even Norman Osborn to a extent is a more sympathetic character then there comics counterpart, yet Venom Eddie Brock who was one of the first Spider-Man villans to make a face heal turn and become a Anti Hero in the comics is a purely unsympathetic villan in this film.
No one really loved Eddie ın the past.So Venom trıcked hım to thınkıng he loves hım but ıt's a really weak versıon of venom ı can say that dyıng on a Goblın grenade.
Eddie Brock maybe a coward. But he is a genius. If only he finished Spider man off a lot sooner. It's unfortunate that a good character like Eddie Brock had been ruined.
Just wanna add since no one has mentioned it, but this is the first version of Venom in life action to use spiderwebs. To make this more interesting, he shoots his webs from the top of his hand just like his comic book version/black suit Peter Parker version. Very nice touch of consistency.
it bothers me so much that almost every adaption we get of venom on screen he never shoots webs. Tom hardys venom is more like the ultimate version. Not even insomanics venom swings he just jumps.
I still think from all Spider-Man media, the effect of the symbiote going over the body and creating the mask/ suit is hands down the best. The different strands pouring down and then combining is magic to watch. All the other media have more of a water effect but I like this individual strand effect the best.
@@swoopsack3368 I can see where you, and many other people, come from, but I actually really like this design. Him being skinny, makes him appear much more like a twisted and evil version of Spider-Man. I really love that
I’m all honesty I don’t really like how Tom hardy venom looks he looks way too animated and out off place I honestly dig this design more but I like Tom hardys venom voice more
@@geekyprogrammer4831 yeah he's really not the iconic venom anymore is he now he's just a simbiote joke isn't he he doesn't even look close to intimidating or real like the Sam raimi venom that was way better than the modern no spider insignia and no spider powers venom
It’s anger towards Peter is that it feels rejected, think of the venom symbiotic relationship as a love triangle. And it uses Eddie Brock’s anger as fuel to get back at Peter.
Since the alien Symbiote was first bonded with Spider-Man Eddie has now gained all access to Spider-Man’s powers memories and the ability to block his spider sense.
Are you saved? If you died tonight would you go to heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH , and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:10 KJV He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
This dude would've been a good Venom with his campy one liners. But he wasn't in it too long. He makes Venom believable when he is actually in the suit.
Yea I think he was a good interpretation of basically a more obnoxious version of Peter for him to be forced in the movie by the studio Sam Rami did a good job incorporating him last minute with some story
Nah he sucked as venom but he could have been a good Carnage just needed to be a little more caotic. His laugh is on point for Kassidy and his mannerism.
@@Goaty9116 Other way around, his Eddie brock was winnie pathetic and didn't act like Eddie at all. Eddie is a complete asshole towards Peter and he is not shy about showing it. The way he was potrayed in the movie is a bit of a douchebag, obnoxious and selfobsessed with no morals. That's not Eddie brocks character, Edddie thinks he is a good person and tries to be somewhat but he has a screwed sense of morals. When he becomes Venom he thinks he can do things better than Spidey and ultimately tries to prove himself to everyone. However when he realizes that he can't take Spideys place his lust for revenge takes over and he tries to kill him.
Spider-Man 3 was originally planned to be a longer film split into 2 parts. The moment at 0:19 where Venom eats the camera was going to be the cliffhanger of Part 1.
@@virgogaming6488 I’m not too big on a forced and uninspired version of Venom being in this movie, but Spider-Man 3 having a Vol. 1 and a Vol. 2 would at least make the film less crammed together.
@@virgogaming6488 Yeah! Sam Raimi isn't the only one, Sony just needed to make another trilogy saga of Tobey Maguire's Spidey vs. The Symbiote Family, and hire either Tim Burton or James Cameron to do it.
The aerial fights in Spider Man never get old. What I love about Spider Man is not only just the story, but also the aerial fights. If I was Spider Man I would be doing aerial fights all day with the enemies I was fighting.
In spiderman web of shadows he does more aerial combat and Yh I’d love to see more aerial combat in the future for spiderman as I think all live action spiderman have done a lot off aerial combat I think the coolest we’ve ever seen aerial combat be done is with tasm when he was fighting electro in the final battle
This movie doesn't really explore Venom as a separate being from Eddie like the new ones. It's just kind of Eddie and Venom being completely one until they are separated. Very different vibes, but both are really good.
my good man thats because they were originally one to begin with. How he was originally in the comics and how he has been for decades. Venom is supposed to be a combination of Eddie Brock, plus the scorned Symbiote. Hence "We are Venom" line. Hence the dark dual voice he had in other media for years. Because its not the symbiote doing all the work in there or "Venom" as the 2018 film is. Its both of them controlling the ship. They are both one and dont refer to themselves as venom when separated. Picture it like Vultron or the megazord on power rangers. With out one piece. It not the megazord.
There are only 3 traits that make the Venom Character 1 A human being who hates SpiderMan for ruining both his career and reputation and wants revenge. 2 An alien costume that it hates Peter Parker for the rejection of the bonding. 3 The Alien and the Human bond together to kill the very same man they both hate. This movie actually filled these 3 points for the character perfectly fine. But the new Venom movies somehow choose to ignore all of this and instead just gives us a a random symbiote bonding with some random dude and they called them Venom and Edward for marketing. I guess next they will make a movie about Ben Reilly without Peter Parker....
@@GanteSpruce I couldn't have said it better myself... Alot of people don't realize that this is the true original version of this character. And that this is one of the reasons why he was so compelling to begin with. But with these knew movies out they have changed it to their own separate entities that have the names venom and carnage already. The host has no meaning other than just being what seems like physicaly capable
Because this is how Venom's character was in a comic book. The simbiot didn't suppose to call himself Venom or be a separate being with his own personality in the first place. Venom was born when Eddie bounded with the simbiot that was rejected by Spider-Man. "We are Venom" hence the combination of Eddie Brock and the simbiot. The poison to Peter Parker and Spider-Man. What Sony did to this character is a parody sketch under PG-13 and nothing more.
If they combined Tom Hardy's Venom appearance and voice, and the sympathy he evokes as Eddie with Topher Grace's Venom scream, spider symbol, the manner in which his Eddie encounters the symbiote and his (and the symbiote's) sheer hatred for Spider-Man, it would make the best version of the character.
Hopefully they go for a more horror oriented approach when they do the symbiote arc for Peter and finally have him fight Venom. I think the story works amazing to essentially have Venom represent the consequences of Peters actions with the suit. We havent had scary/villian Venom (that was decently written) since Spectacular Spider-Man in 2008-2009 and every version since stays away from the horror aspect way too much. Villian Venom needs a good comeback.
You don’t understand! Topher graces version of venom was pure evil and coldblooded he was a demon with no emotions and no empathy! Topher grace was the only Evil venom ever created he was the most terrifying version of venom. All other venoms are anti heros. And Topher grace Eddie / venom was even more terrifying then Cletus / Carnage
@@isaacclarke4229 You speak the truth. I just love how Topher delivers his lines with malevolent glee and sexual innuendo. "MY SPIDER SENSE IS TINGLING. IF YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT." And he maliciously twists an intimate term of endearment between Peter and MJ. "SO WHAT DO YOU SAY, TIGER ???"
I love how despite not liking Venom as a character, Sam Raimi still did the best he could and just channeled all of his horror experience into his portrayal of the symbiote. I feel like the only two things I didn’t like about this Venom was the lack of voice change and “I like being bad. It makes me happy.”
I’m just gonna say it. I like this version of Eddie way more than Tom Hardy’s. Yeah it wasn’t the best casting choice but I get way more Eddie Brock vibes from Topher than Tom. The age is more accurate, the hair color, the disdain for Peter Parker, it checks the boxes. Toms can’t go more than 30 seconds without dropping a cheesy comedy bit to break the tension and make his version of venom seem like a stand up comedian. Tophers was actually a bit terrifying when his face was covered. Superhero movies just don’t like to take themselves seriously anymore and it’s really highlighting how good this movie and others like actually were.
It's great to read about Venom on Wikipedia, and all the other Marvel superheroes and -villains he's bonded with. I remember reading that issue, way back in '84 when I was 14, when Peter took his new suit to the Fantastic Four to be examined. You fans that have read that issue know what I'm talking about. That last panel, where the symbiote rises up in the shape of a man inside the capsule it's being held in....all I could think was, "Oh, man. This thing's gonna be trouble!" Venom's just one of the greatest comic-book villains ever conceived.
@@shacharlem4424 yeah, but the villain part is an important part of his history. Try to imagine erasing Jason Todd being the 2nd Robin from his story or creating Ben Riley and/or Kane parker without Spider-man .
@comicnerd29 His portrayal in this movie fits carnage more the screeching, claws, skinny body, I mean just give him more of a serial killer personality and make the suit red and boom carnage
Things I like about this Venom: Spider symbol, enemy of Spider-Man, comic accurate first transformation, terrifying, Eddie actually having control over Venom's powers. Things I like about Tom Hardy Venom: Big and bulky, the two beings communicating, anti-hero, they refer to themselves as "We" Both versions have everything the other is missing.
This venom shouldve got his own movie. Hes brutal. Hes vicious. Was a loser before the suit. Could write a good story with redemption for topher grace's edddie. But we got another comedy movie
honestly i really like how they portrayed the symbiote in this film. It acts more like a parasite than an intelligent being, as it doesn't have its own dialogue or anything, the host is in control but they slowly loose their mind. You can also see how when Eddie takes it off, its grown much larger, implying that it was using him to get more powerful.
One little detail I like is when Peter is fighting Venom solo. He can only hear Venom, but can’t sense him with the spider sense. It’s consistent with the comics because Pete can’t sense venom with the Spider Sense. Just a cool little detail I liked
Even when faced with a character that, to quote Sam Raimi, "lacks humanity", he still did a realistic version of an alien creature from an unknown planet. He made Venom actually *alien* , making it speak in screeches instead of actual human speech, and Eddie is the one who speaks for him. The suit just corrupts his thoughts, but doesn't speak for him.
I like how his webbing sounds differ from Peter’s and really I liked the whole evil version of Spider Man vibe that’s what news reporter described him as 0:31
The only thing I hated about this Venom was it's screen time. As much as I ADORE Spider-Man 3 final battle, I finally confess that ending the movie with the church scene (btw, Sandman should have been more important for the movie in this case) and saving Venom as the main villain for Spider-Man 4 would have been way better. Plus leaving the conflict of the New Goblin and Sandman for that movie as well, so we would have still gotten that epic final battle, perhaps an even better one
Possibly unpopular opinion --> I have always relished in Topher's performance as Eddie. Part of the reason I never really got into Hardy's films. Used to be my fave part of this movie. He was unhinged, but not so outright evil that I couldn't see him becoming some twisted antihero down the line. Nice to see others feel the same. I don't understand why people trashed Topher for Sony's poor Venom character design. My head canon is the stronger Venom grows, the more he starts to resemble the comic version. Shame they killed off Eddie so quickly. They should have ended his character arc with that epic church transformation... 😩
For everyone criticizing Topher Grace's casting as Eddie being so horrible, he's not really miscast because he's based off of the ultimate comic's iteration of the character, Sam rushed venom in the movie and didn't look that deep into the comics and since the ultimates series was still running at the time, that's likely where he got his reference, taking that into consideration personally made me look at the casting choice a lot different, it's not really a fair criticism on the movie because he does a good job its just depends on which version of Eddie you like better
I love Topher Grace, he is the best part in Spider Man 3. And Spider-Man 3 is my favorite Spider-Man film since I was a little boy, it was better than the first and second in my opinion.
Topher version of venom will always be my favorite , when we first meet him , he’s kind of mean to Peter and then lies on him , keep in mind that it was the Symbiote controlling peters actions when he broke Eddie’s camera 📷 . In my personal opinion I do think Peter went too far when he embarrassed Eddie at their work place , he should’ve just said that if he lies again , he’s telling Jamieson . Keep in mind that is not really Peter doing it , It’s the symbiote controlling his actions . Even when Peter pulls eddie out of venom , eddie doesn’t attack Peter , In my opinion I think the symbiotie gives people a taste of what they want to do but does it in a aggressive way . For example , when the rent guy ask Peter for rent Peter tells him two times nicely to leave him alone but the third time we see Peter snap and yell at the man , clearly Peter does not act like this but he probably has wanted to do this for a long time and the symbiote knows that and give Peter a taste of his desire . Peter even tells Eddie that the Symbiote is like a drug , when you put it on it feels great and then you get addicted to it and you will lose your humanity and morality . Peter basically tells Eddie that he’s sorry for ruining Eddie’s career and his relationship with Gwen . I do feel kind of sympathy towards tophers venom because it’s mostly peters fault . Let me explain , after mj breaks up with Peter ( to save his life from herry ) Peter disability put on the Symbiote suit knowing that it well change him . But in all a good movie and since we have the multiverse , I’d love to a version of a world where tophers venom killed spider man . I’d love to see topher play as venom again , maybe even his venom and Tom Hardy’s venom fight each other . I think that would be cool .
Like father like son. Both of them died in the same way, but the difference was that one one of them tried to kill Spiderman and the other one tried to save him
Since the symbiote was first bonded with Spider-Man Eddie has now gained all access to Spider-Man powers and memories also the ability to block his spider sense
Bro imagine if this venom had his own movie like being the main villian he starts skinner but the more angrier he gets the more heads he bites of the musclier and bigger he gets and as end credit we get carnage boom oh man
Eddie Brock was bonded to an alien symbiote creature that provided him with a variety of superhuman powers including an unspecified degree of superhuman strength, durability and agility, sufficient at least to trade blows with the superhumanly strong and agile Spider-Man. He could project portions of the symbiote outward in the form of webbing and the symbiote could alter its appearance to match nearly any form Brock could imagine, including completely camouflaging himself to the point of being nearly invisible to the naked eye. Due to the symbiote's previous bond with Spider-Man, Venom had access to all of the knowledge the symbiote had acquired during its bond with Spider-Man, including Spider-Man's secret identity and his loved ones. The previous bond also rendered Venom's actions undetectable by Spider-Man's danger-warning Spider-Sense ability. Despite all its strengths, the symbiote was especially vulnerable to fire and sonics. In his own right, Brock was a capable news writer and photographer, although he often did not properly and fully research his information before turning in articles and he often made assumptions of what was happening in his photographs without fully checking to see if his assumptions were correct.
I like how even when Eddie jumps in the symbiote seems to kinda block the whole rebonding process. It’s fitting when you understand that venom only wants to be with Peter
Best movie villain. Hands down. The only downside is that he should’ve been more muscular. That would’ve made him even more intimidating and more powerful.
Another downside is the fact venom was in this movie they should've had him be the main villain in a 4th movie instead of forcing Rami to have Venom be in this one. But even tho this movie wasn't perfect Rami did actually do pretty good with placing Venom into the plot here this movie doesn't deserve the hate tbh
@@Profileunused That was an idea because Raimi and his crew were going through different ideas to branch out the story but Sony wanted everything into one big mess
I just noticed something. In 0:03 you can see a watch on Eddie's left wrist. But in 0:05 and when the symbiote bonds to Eddie, you can clearly see that Eddie's watch is on his right wrist.
@grimey3480 Last I checked he always expressed remorse for getting innocence people killed and he never took Mary Watson hostage, atleast not in the mainstream universe.
@@robertkenny1201 Actually in the original comics he will kill without hesitation if it's for his own benefit, the "remorse" is just a way to further delude himself into thinking he's the hero. Also, he literally went to Peter's house just to traumatize MJ in his first appearance. Also also, he tells Peter that he will hurt even more innocent people if Peter doesn't accept his 1-on-1 fight in his second appearance.
it's cool to see traces of the test screening left behind, the skull having sharp teeth, eddie having sharp teeth in the movie, eddies body being mutilated and melted as the symbiote is bonding with him, (this is a trace in the movie cause you cannot see Eddie's mouth when venom screeches, supporting the fact that it mutilated his face unmasked, making venoms mouth biology most likely.
I remember when I was young this venom absolutely terrified me and scarred me for life, Yeah I used to the dislike this venom after hearing about Spider-Man 3's flaws, but after witnessing the absolute joke of Tom Hardy's venom, I'm starting to appreciate this version of venom a whole lot more now!
I believe the reason Topher Grace didn't get the recognition here was because of how his character in That 70s Show was portrayed. Eric's naive and nice guy vs. Eddie's evil and narcissist Maybe Venom 3 will provide a hive multiverse concept where Topher's and Tom Hardy's Eddie are put in a scene together
Idk why he gets so much hate, he was kind of epic...the design, the campiness, the makeup, Topher's acting, the voice effects. I kinda wish he'd been in it a little more so that his character wasn't as 2 dimensional (though I suppose all the emotional depth went to sandman lol)
1:20 ouu, my spider-sense is tingling. why so many people forget this scene and say "they never say spider-sense in all the Spiderman movies"? Or did they never see Spiderman before the MCU era? ️👀
Venom is two separate beings Peter Parker’s rival the former daily bugle reporter Eddie Brock and the alien symbiote that had once masqueraded as Spider-Man’s black and white costume
Interestingly while Tom Hardys Eddie Brock is probably the least evil version of the character this version of Eddie Brock is the most evil version of the character.
I think Tom Hardy had the best performance, but Topher is very good too. If they really forced Raimi to show Venom in Spiderman 3, they should end the movie when Eddie becomes Venom and make Spiderman 4 where Brock offers to help Sandman and does a lot of crimes, but Peter doesn't know who is Venom until the final battle. (My idea, don't hate me)
