My husband did 20 years and watching stuff like this makes him wish he could do it all again..! These soldiers play hard but when they put that uniform on they are a completely different person . There is alot of trust you have to have friendships that last a lifetime. I'm proud to say my husband was a part of those that helped keep America the greatest country in the world!!!❤❤❤ 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I once did this off the fantail of a ship, then onto an aircraft carrier. The pilot took us on a low ride over the Persian Gulf. Swinging us from side to side. I am still cleaning my chonies.

Doing this was some of the most fun I had in the Army. We did STABO extractions in Korea at Camp Casey and Camp Stanley. It was a pure adrenaline rush.

This rope they use is a couple notches better than the one I recently bought at Harbor Freight.

This technique originated in Viet Nam for extracting Long Range Reconasance Patrols(LRRP). Oft refered to as "Dope on a Rope.

It's oddly comforting to know that, if needed, they can do this.

The chopper pilots precision is what amazes me.

Definitely in a combat situation, the choppers would have been in and out really quick!! These individuals are truly professionals and they deserve all the respect we can give them,especially all the support!

After doing this in the USMC a few times, rode inside the helo once. Asked what the hatchet was for. “If we start having problems, we cut that rope”. “Good to know, important safety tip, thanks Ely”

One of the things I loved about living in San Diego was that every so often, you'd see an H-60 cruising along with a bunch of guys on a rope slung underneath.

Amazing what these guys are trained to do and here I am having kids and working as a civilian. Should've joined while I was still wild.

Dude!!! You did such a great job documenting an incredible and even astounding event!!! I’m blown away, and totally jealous that I wasn’t there nor had the spot in the stands that you did.

We called it "Pearls on a string" in the USN. I was one of those on the string and it's an amazing experience for an 18-year old to be flying like that. You're probably gonna have dreams of flying after this exercise for some years to come.

I saw this at a local military festival called "Mountain Fest" which is held yearly at Fort Drum in New York State.........awesome!!

That is so badass when those Blackhawks maintain a hover during an insertion and extraction.

Normally it goes much faster than that. They slowed down and took their time to ensure it was a good show. IRL it goes off much much faster than that.

I got to do this once but I forgot the cardinal rule with sling harnesses . . . make sure your balls aren't in between the strap and your thigh BEFORE you put all your weight in the harness!

Being a wife of a military man for 20 years I do have to say it was a great experience. I loved the travel, the freinds you make along the way. I do have to say when my husband reached his 20 year mark and we discussed him retirement I do have to saynwas relieved when he did. I am so proud of our military men and women. However I do want to give a shout out to the military wives that stand behind their men and support them in all they do. I don't think people realize how hard it is to kiss your husband and wave as he goes off to fight for his country. To be home with the children most times in a different state then your family on your own. To hold you breath everytime you hear a knock or your doorbell. So being a military wife for 20 years stand strong your never alone. 🙏

WOW, that was awesome!

In Vietnam, we called it "riding the strings". I think the rope length was 160 feet. The placement of the harness was critical running between your legs. As once you where picked up there was no adjusting it. You did hide with your arms out, until you passed out. That would be about 10 minutes due to cutting off circulation from your femoral atrial.

Gosh 4 minutes....In the Marine infantry that's enough time to loose a Marine and then pick him up again. Seriously though awesome display of capabilities and power. Simply awesome to see among American territory. The implementation of this extraction is limited. The logistics and individual training to make this feasible is incredible. Semper Fi

As a Hawk crew chief, I got to ride that line as well coordinate it in the aircraft. It was cool but I think I’ll pass on doing it again. Rappelling was more fun.

Great skill and bravery. Just bear in mind,if an engine quits, the loadie or pilot will probably have to 'release' you before you hit the ground...... together.......

This isn't about Nascar NFL or any of that! This is about soldiers that have to sometimes give all they have for the safety and security of all of us, even in training!
