An interesting type of extraction called SPIES (Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction System) for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. They had completed the Insertion via fast-rope earlier, but I did not have my camera ready then. Audio was garbage, but I managed to clean it up enough to be presentable at the very least.

The concept is actually older than that. In the original 'Buck Rogers' novel, 'Armageddon 2419 AD' the author describes something very like this - he called it a 'coat tail' dragged behind an aircraft. That was written in 1928.

Being a wife of a military man for 20 years I do have to say it was a great experience. I loved the travel, the freinds you make along the way. I do have to say when my husband reached his 20 year mark and we discussed him retirement I do have to saynwas relieved when he did. I am so proud of our military men and women. However I do want to give a shout out to the military wives that stand behind their men and support them in all they do. I don't think people realize how hard it is to kiss your husband and wave as he goes off to fight for his country. To be home with the children most times in a different state then your family on your own. To hold you breath everytime you hear a knock or your doorbell. So being a military wife for 20 years stand strong your never alone. 🙏

In Vietnam, we called it "riding the strings". I think the rope length was 160 feet. The placement of the harness was critical running between your legs. As once you where picked up there was no adjusting it. You did hide with your arms out, until you passed out. That would be about 10 minutes due to cutting off circulation from your femoral atrial.

Gosh 4 minutes....In the Marine infantry that's enough time to loose a Marine and then pick him up again. Seriously though awesome display of capabilities and power. Simply awesome to see among American territory. The implementation of this extraction is limited. The logistics and individual training to make this feasible is incredible. Semper Fi

Its slow and it requires gear thats unique. How often do you need to only extract a squad? Not often if ever. Taking a Platoon home under duress in the field Um well takes some time. Marines can only bring what they need in country. I believe a MEU can go three months engaged in total war. Though I might be wrong about that. Can't be released, at least not when I did it. The cable was attached under the belly of the helo before it left for the operation, using a regular shackle and bolt through a metal eyelet, usually used for cargo. No one is going to reach under a helo in flight to try to disengage it, sorry. Enjoy the ride!
