I was half expecting the driver to start doing doughnuts on the track after he got off the helicopter.

I had to rewind this video when I heard the announcer say (the copilot) Bryan Nichols' name. His son and I knew each other many years ago, and my uncle was one of Bryan's best friends in the service. For those who don't know, Bryan was killed in action on August 6, 2011 after his chinook was shot down by Taliban fighters with rocket propelled grenades. The crash left 30 Americans and 8 Afghanis dead, marking the single costliest day for the United States in Afghanistan. I did not expect to find myself reflecting on these things when I tuned into this video. Still, I am delighted that this fantastic clip has preserved a bit of what Bryan did, and I am extremely grateful to have stumbled upon it.

NO this is NOT a waste of taxpayer money. This crew would have already been scheduled for training, and the military loves doing unusual stunts like this just because the unusual stuff is always the best training. Not often that reserve air crews get to land in a heavily populated area with 2,000 pounds of cargo and hazards all around such as the high fence. Besides, even if they did not deliver the car the crew would still have been flying a mission that day so you would have been paying for it anyway. Plus its excellent advertising for the army reserve, guarantee a bunch of kids and teenagers are gonna see that and say "That would be the coolest job ever". Who knows maybe some guy saw this and joined the army reserve and actually helped with the hurricane relief in Texas.

Turns out from what I can tell from the audio announcer, the guy driving the Camaro is Doug Hurley, the same Doug that launched on SpaceX’s DM-2 flight. That’s pretty awesome

The military probably wrote it off as a cargo drop-off practice training session. The "training session" excuse is how we got to see the SR-71 pay visits to various air shows, despite the immense cost of flying it. They'd fly a training mission and make the fly-by(s) a part of it, usually on the way back to home base. I saw it at the Reno Air Races that way.

This pop up on my feed for the first time in years. I served with CW3 Nichols and all the guys on this flight. Not a day goes by and i don't miss the men who died on Extortion17. My they Rest in Peace.

That is dope. (About the car). Learning what happened to the pilot after reading the description is very sad. In a way though, you were able to give the pilot's father some relief, by showing his son flying.
