I was more surprised when he genuinely became one of the good guys.

Yeah season 3,4 and maybe a bit of 5 he became such a team rocket loser for slapstick purposes that it really made buffy look like a loser by comparison for having such a hard time with him in season 2. He should have beaten that demon to save dawn only for something else to cut her.

I preferred him as the villain/ anti hero

He was the most human vampire. Angelous on the other hand was just straight up evil, so when he got a soul Angel was the polar opposite, a completely different entity. Spike was far more pragmatic and weather he was souless or not always walked that line between villian and anti hero. Spike was that mother loving poet in his first life and his sensitivity carried over to the point he actually cared about Drucilla. It's what made him such an interesting and relatable character. You see his True blood counter part Eric tread that line as well. It works really well for Vampires because they are supposed to be monsters and walking that line is the only way good Vampires should really be portrayed, at least at first. Well, maybe not all vampires, but that Dracula untold movie would certainly have benefited from Vlad operating in the grey area more and not having the plot twist itself to let him be the good guy.

In my fanfic w/ B, he's an ally of the New Council ( and as vamps are out in the open with Harmony Kendall's show having aired, he is an "ambassador" of sorts of the vamp community)(Also, his representatives/ publicity/legal firm is HVHW Limited. Stands for Harker, Van Helsing, and Westerna AND, yes, STILL run by the ORIGINAL ladies as Drac didn't like Stoker' literary stand in right at the outset and as a result of some dosing of him with what we know as LSD, the resultant novel is an acid trip of the events being "recounted" as they did happen and didn't happen)

I was telling my sister that the other day. It says something about the Spike v Angel debate that Angel was cursed with a soul bc of his terrible deeds as punishment, but Spike was gifted with a soul bc he earned it.

What would of been interesting is if whedon had written in a vampire character that was soulless but good purely as a result of moral philosophical pragmatism. Doing the right thing can feel like a short term cost but is actually a long term benefit.

Friends, sure, I always look at my friends the way Spike and Buffy look at each other, cuddle with them, tell them I would let them kill my father figure, take their side over every one else's and softly touch their faces while maintaining eye contact.

However I didn’t mean this in a negative way, I just think they understand each other and support each other in a way bangel never quite achieved. In my opinion spuffy were able to be friends BECAUSE they worked so well together, and loved each other in many different ways.

Spike and Buffy were never friends though. Season 7 is filled with so much sexual tension. The only reason they didn't act on it, is it would be so uncomfortable a thing to go for after Spike almost violated her last season. They do act on it later in the comics though. She chooses Spike over Angel in the comics.

He's all passion when it comes to the ones he love cause he's a hopeless romantic. I also love that it's followed by the scene where spike sees buffy almost get stabbed by Angels and pauses, but then notices he doesn't give a shit and keeps walking :D that was my first favourite Spike moment
