Thanks @leonardshelby I've been working on a gnarly project that required all my time. Happy I was finally able to make some more videos. Let me know if there's anyone you'd like to hear from in the coming weeks!
Excellent video. Spike Lee is one of my all time favourite directors. It is always great to hear Mr. Lee expound on film and film making. Keep up the good work.
Glad I ran across your page. I'm getting into film making. Actually I'm writing a few scripts write now and this helped out a lot. My favorite tip was explore two sides of the story. It resonated with me because I wanna write dramas and passionate love stories with hilarious comic relief and some how bring the experience you get from action film (i.e. Quentin Tarantino films) to dramatic love stories. So that tip about two sides of the same story, detailing both sides and them both being right made sense cuz that's what I'm trying to do in my film.
Sounds interesting! Glad this could help. I'd suggest checking out the YT channels of Tyler Mowery and Behind the Curtain. Their videos focus specifically on the art and craft of Screenwriting and they give incredibly detailed, practical information based on other filmmaker's advice and their own learnings. Also some good books to check out are "Writing Fiction: A Guide to Narrative Craft" and "The Artist's Way" both of which delve into the "spiritual" and creative process of writing. They've got some great practical exercises to help you actually write. Good luck on your scripts Michael!!
Where did you learn how to edit and other complex film techniques? That’s gotta be the hardest thing for me. Apart from analyzing films. Also just doing it.
