Gotta love that he shoots out the vial just to show he has a gun, and then chooses to brawl him rather than take the easy way and aim it for his head. Good ol' Spike.
@@tylerjames805 I know. I’ve seen videos about the creation of the series. It’s truly amazing how much passion was put into it. Like for instance, one of the biggest inspirations for the series was Lupin III, another anime I love. I first saw Bebop a few times on Adult Swim years ago but couldn’t really remember anything. Years later I started watching Lupin. I finally got around to watching Bebop all the way through and couldn’t help noticing references like Spike’s boots and his cigarettes being bent out of shape Jigen’s.
You still have that feeling with him that’s he’s just a goofball for a few more episodes. up until Ballad of Fallen Angels that’s when you realize that Spike can be a remorseless gun fighter when he saves Fay.
The hundred year old kid finally grew old and slowly dies* "Aah… I'm finally free from the bound of time, do you know what this means to me?" "No .___."
This is the scene that did it for me. I fell in love with Cowboy Bebop right when I saw it. I love the animation. There was just soemthing about it that stood out
To me it was the fact it made me so happy. The fight itself flowed so well every punch synced up with the beautifully jazzy soundtrack, I couldn't help but smile and feel full of life.
@@eddie9454 NY Rush is not used in the movie. Also, I don't recall there being a single piece of swing in the OST - the majority of the jazz is hard bop.
@@rnb2087 i always considered the hipster to the the opposite of a nerd. a nerd likes something unusual and wants to get you into it, a hipster likes something unusual and wants to put you down for not being into it. Boomer is just an age group that gets cast as unwilling to change or learn new things, and puts down young people, though i know several who dont fit the stereotype.
I remember being in science class sitting in the back, all tired after a long day, headphones in, pretending to be studying, ipad behind a book, watching bebop. Best feeling ever, man.
Remember, boys and girls, that was all done with hand painted cells, not digital animation. Ain't it just amazing how much life they put into Spike's movements?
it’s so hilarious how spike just absolutely humiliates asimov in this fight. just dodging every single punch and dancin around him like he’s pure trash. front flip kicking the dude , whipping around the table to kick him in the face. all to the amazing energy that this tune brings to the scene along with the brilliant animation. one of the best scenes in any anime it’s something so wonderful i can’t even explain enough how extraordinary this scene is.
But also never blinking during a fight helps alot not missing nor allowing an opportunity to attack pass by, even spike is aware and uses it along with his poker face the whole time if im not mistaken he was just so good with his martial arts while Asinov had decent brute force more or less martial arts training where it counts keeping his opponent in his sight, but in some way I do understand why Asinov saw his attacks coming but could not dodge/block them other than that spike was just too good at it, and I presume Spike let himself get choked out by Asinov earlier to pick pocket the merchandise from Asinovs Trench coat, I bet he was counting on the female Asinov was with to Plead for Spikes Life and also counting on Asinov to listen to her, that is just very interesting! X)
@@bobsherwood4537 I've watched season 1 of JJK and the story is pretty damn generic. The power system is cool tho, and the animation is really good. I've also read the Shibuya arc just because everyone kept hyping it up, and it's definitely better than season 1, but it's nothing that impressive. S P O I L E R S: It just pulls on your heartstrings since many prominent characters die and it elevates the world building, but that's about it. The ost in JJK season 1 is also pretty damn underwhelming imo. Hopefully it gets better in Season 2.
An so what if ppl like ppl shooting lazer beams an yelling while powering up let ppl like what they like . wow your so different cus u dont like that here have a cookie.....not 😂😂😂😂
He does use lot of Bruce Lee's moveset; nose flick, one-two feet movement, same direct kick and punch, etc. The character creator for the show was very keen on the idea of making Spike fluid in fights, wanted to make him stand out in a spectrum of hard-hitter/power-creep anime leads, for his goal he took a lot from Bruce Lee to create Spike, and I still think to this day Spike's fight scenes are unmatched.
Not really, indeed Shin'ichiro Watanabe directed both shows but as for the animation for Cowboy Bebop it is Sunrise and for Samurai Champloo it's Manglobe. (who unfortunately closed in 2015)
Good animation, like most things, is subjective it seems. I don't watch shounen (or most anime for that matter lmao) too much but you can still find some pretty cool stuff underneath all the seasonal bullcrap.
When a 23-year-old anime has cleaner and more fluid fight animation than 90% of the current market. There is a reason why this series is a cultural icon. This was the Golden Age of anime.
Right? It’s so funny how they and the rest of the bebop crew are poor throughout the anime, all that skill and they’re stuck eating microwave ramen half the time lol
Outclassed but can't the big bucks...and when they do? It's gotta be paid for the damage they have caused, medical bills...hard life being a damn good bounty hunter and kinda always coming up short
My love for jazz was already on a universal scale before I even watched this anime. Now after Cowboy Bebop, I’m permanently hooked to that genre no matter how long I take a break from it or listen to other kinds of music.
One thing I like is how clever Watanabe gets with the references so take this scene for instance. Spike's dressed up as The Man With No Name from Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy and Asimov being an obvious homage to Antonio Banderas' character from Desperado. Robert Rodriguez has stated plenty of times that he was heavily inspired by the Dollar's Trilogy and basically tried to do his own take with his trilogy so looking at it that way, it's like Spike's the OG showing his imitator how it's done
I always liked watching Spike fight. The best part of the show in my opinion. The fight scenes were always so well choreographed. It is like watching an action movie. 😊
Some Samurai Champloo parallels for me here. For one, the music. The song here is called Rush, and it’s very similar to the song used in Mugen and Jin’s first fight in Samurai Champloo; the song being called Sneak Chamber (primarily the bass). Both fights being the first chance we see what the main character/characters can really do in a fight. Besides that, Spike is voiced by Steve Blum and Asimov is voice by Kirk Thornton. In Champloo, Mugen is voiced by Steve Blum and Jin is voiced by Kirk Thornton. I don’t think this was all intended, but is fun to draw similarities.
I haven't seen a lot of Cowboy Bebop, but from what I've seen, I doubt Keanu Reeves could pull off the role of Spike in a live-action movie. (Because Keanu Reeves has expressed interest in playing Spike Spiegel if they ever made a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie)
Cj Kalandek he would also need to have charisma in speaking and showing wit. I think Keanu has the man of few words down though. I just don't see Spike charisma.
Keanu is far too old for the character, and I wouldn't say he has the acting chops for the more sensitive parts of the character either. Still, he'd be brilliant in the action scenes.
Since this anime was made in the 90s. I figured the creators took inspiration from Robert Rodriguez's "Desperado". Asimov looks like Antonio Banderas from that movie.
This scene right here is what made me instantly fall in love with the show, and is in part why it’s my favorite right next to Evangelion. Everything just flows so perfectly.
Asimov here is an unworthy analogue to Jin. Spike, by himself, is like a spiritual hybrid of Mugen and Jin. Mugen's improvisation, Jin's control. I've always suspected Mugen and Jin represent Shinichirō Watanabe splitting Spike Spiegel's personality into an odd couple.
Talk about a great way to introduce a character. From the first seconds of the fight we learn Spike is cocky, an agile fighter, great with guns, athletic, charismatic and arrogant. Love it
Me before this scene: I don’t really know about this anime. It’s dark and gritty but kinda slow which isn’t really my cup of tea. This scene comes on: NEVERMIND
This is literally the scene I watched late at night when I was 11 that solidified this show for me and I was hooked. Instant Classic and absolute BANGER of a show! I’m 26 now so yeah…
mad at myself for skipping past this on adult swim back in the day just to watch family guy & robot chicken. just recently watched for the first time & I must say, this shit is legendary af.
One thing I always liked about Spike is that he's pretty good with his ability of sleight of hand. He can snatch items from people without them even noticing until its too late.
I love this fight scene. I also love the scene with the song Bad Dog, No Biscuits! They’re so epic! I also love the line “you trust your eyes too much asimov!”
"I only have beer." The vicious movement in this fight scene is what I love, the way the camera moves with the action and the almost whip-like speed of the moves. Spike's fighting style is very much like a snake's movements, hard and precise, but everything in this is in concert; voices, sound, impact! God, this show was kickass at the right time. Also, should Spike wear more panchoes? I think he should~
