My kids are now 17 and 9 and all the things that you are struggling with- no personal time, having to work around others, barely having a chance to shower, crazy emotions, taking care of 95% of the house work…they are still happening to this day. Ahhh!!!

Oh no! 🙃 Time management has definitely taken on an entirely new meaning 😅 Hoping you get some relief soon!

Spot on. Motherhood is full on and still underrecognized. I found babies get easier around the 4 month mark when they start interacting with you a lot more and sharing their little personalities - it just makes it so much better. If you haven't already, see a physiotherapist who specialises in postpartum issues for your back. They can tell you where to buy a support brace for your back.

Thank you! She’s already started smiling and cooing and is even trying to have conversations with me (just noises, though) which I’m loving, so I can’t wait for that to continue and develop even more! And yes, definitely will do that. I was seeing a chiropractor before pregnancy and it helped a lot, but maybe finding a specialist is just what I need. Thanks for the suggestion! ❤

Another suggestion is to put her in her pram (buy a compact one if needed) and have that close to you around the house. This is what I did as I physically just couldn't carry my son all the time. He seemed happy with this arrangement because he could sense I was near him and obviously I talked to him so he was comforted by that.

I will give that a try, thank you!! 🙏🏼❤

It is 100% easier to go to work I don't care what anyone says. I've worked and had a newborn and work seemed like a break. You get a lunch break at work. You don't at home. 4 kids in and my life isn't my own anymore. I'm Single working mum and it's hard. 24/7 someone wants something from me xx thanks for being honest Kristen. Hats off to you for continuing to pump. I couldn't carry on I needed help and switched all 4 to formula after a few weeks x

Amen, sister! 🙌🏼 And holy sh*t, you are a rockstar 😮 4 kids, single mum, and you work full-time?! You deserve the world, I hope you know that ❤ The mental, emotional, and physical overstimulation was not something I could have prepared for-honestly, I don’t think we even can prepare for something like that. Just gotta take it day by day 😅

@@AuthorKristenMartin you can't prepare. It's a shock to the system. You lose your freedom and have someone reliant on you 24/7. It's hard. I'm glad you're speaking about it because you are 100% not alone in how you feel and you articulate so well what we need. I don't like to tell people it gets easier because I don't think it does. We just adapt more and get used to it. Routines are very important to me. And don't forget hun, you have other kids there to which makes it harder too. I'm overwhelmed all the time, but knowing I'm not alone makes me feel better. Love these vids. Hope you do more xx

Hugs! As a single mom of five, I remember those days clearly. It is hardest with your firstborn because you don't know what to expect. But, event that isn't true because each kid is different. You are doing a great job.

Yes! Thank you! Some days are way harder than others. Newborn sleep is WILD, I’ll say that much. Every day is so different and such a rollercoaster 🎢

Oh this hits. My first baby was born in November by c-section (in Canada) cold and dark super early. She’s now 17 but I remember just crying and not knowing what to do with her. I didn’t want anybody else to really watch her. My hubby would actually take her to visit the neighbours after I fed her and he’d bring her back in 3 hour. So she could eat again. He would also take the odd midnight feeding so I could get some sleep. This gets easier but then baby will go through a new phase and then there’s new stuff to figure out. Being a mom is hard, hormones rolling and keeping a little human alive is overwhelming. You’re doing amazing!!

Thank you! And yes, there’s definitely more anxiety around other people (who aren’t my husband) watching her. Definitely not ready for that step-it honestly feels like I never will be 🥲 Thanks for sharing your experience! I’m so sorry you went through that 😢

Oh Kristen I feel you! I’ve been here. My sons are 4 yo and 14 months old and I remember those early newborn stages so well! With my first one, I put too much pressure on me to breastfeed, I ended up pumping all day long and ever resting. For my second child, it was formula from day one and it was much better! It doesn’t solve everything, maybe you really want to breastfeed and it’s perfectly okay but you might need to let something go to be able to breath! Now I work 80% of the week. I have a day off-work AND off-kids! I do house chores and take some time for myself, I think it’s the more important ! Don’t forget yourself! You’re a momma but frankly you also deserve to be alone sometimes ! ;) Sending you all the love. Pauline from France x

The Mamaroo was MAGIC for us. It was soothing to my infants and many times was able to allow them to be near me without me actually holding them 24/7 during those fussy times. Obviously I still held them as often as i could ❤ but it made things more manageable. It's not the same as a traditional swing but it's pricey so if you can get a used one i would. It's made by 4moms
@AuthorKristenMartin

Thank you for letting me in on this because I didn’t even know it existed until your comment 😅 We have a traditional swing which she seems to enjoy for a limited period of time, then gets fussy. She does better in her maxi kosi bouncer but, same thing, gets fussy after a bit. Definitely willing to give this a try! ❤

I agree with everything that you touched base on. My daughter will be 18 in December. I was a single mom for a very long time. Do what you do best. But I’ve learned that as long as you run to them when they cry the more they are going to depend on you to run to them when they cry. Although, it improves them trusting that you’ll come to them. Maybe, try not to rush to her immediately when she starts crying and or try comforting her without picking her up. Just to let her know that she’s fine and you’re there. It may help some with the 24/7 carrying part. It may take a few tries though.
@AuthorKristenMartin

Thanks for sharing your experience! I read such conflicting information about how babies “can’t be spoiled” and then how picking them up too often *does* spoil them 🙃 I love holding her and snuggling her-just need a break sometimes. Hearing her cry is painful, especially when I know holding her will comfort her. Such a double edged sword!

Hey lady, you are in the trenches now! I agree with so much of what you said. I have 2 littles and I was the bread winner the 1st time, SAHM the 2nd- and it is ABSOLUTELY EASIER to be the bread winner! You get mental breaks! Just know that you tend to get to feeling a bit more normal around 3-4 months, then even more around 6-8 months, 1 year, 1.5, 2, etc as you get more of yourself and your time back (especially once they are eating solids too). And no judgement or criticism, I just want to say maybe if it is possible, you would have a bit more relaxing time if breastfeeding directly instead of pumping- idk if there's nipple confusion or anything that makes that not possible, but I know my baby's naps on me after nursing to sleep was all the me-time I got for pretty much all of year 1 (baby's dad was gone all week as a truck driver), and that would eliminate all those pumping and part-cleaning issues too. Just a thought said with love! If it is a latching issue baby could have a tongue tie or something a lactation consultant could help with. But you know what is best for you if you've already considered all of that! I hope it gets easier! ❤❤❤
@AuthorKristenMartin
@AuthorKristenMartin 10 месяцев назад
Yes, amen to that! 🙌🏼 I’m happy to hear that it gets somewhat easier, even though there will always be new leaps/phases and things to learn as she grows. I’m trying to follow my intuition as best I can, but sometimes I feel like I just get it wrong 😆 And yes, I’d love to breastfeed vs exclusively pump, but there is nipple confusion along with latching issues. We’ve made multiple efforts and I can tell she gets frustrated with the whole process, which in turn has me feeling like I’m letting her down. I really don’t mind pumping-it’s just hard when she won’t let me put her down for more than 5 minutes at a time 😅 I’ve started pumping on one side while holding her so that’s something, at least 😊
@marjoriedana3325
@marjoriedana3325 10 месяцев назад
@@AuthorKristenMartin Well, glad to hear you've been able to pump on 1 side while feeding! And it is great that she takes bottles- some breastfeeding moms never get a break bc baby won't take anything but breast (me, haha). And I promise you aren't letting her down if you're the type of mom to wear her all day to keep her happy! I have heard other people than me also say the 3ish-month mark is where it got easier for them too. Sending happy thoughts!

He is, as much as he can, but it’s hard when he’s working full-time and also taking care of our Kindergartener and 1st grader after work when they get home from school. We’ve just got such a full house so we’re trying to make do! Extended family isn’t an option either due to distance, so it all falls on us! 😅
