Thank you for a lovely video whilst I knit sox... my cats assist also, so I appreciated yours! Regarding the increases before the heel begins-- this is a way to accomodate those of us with high insteps. The circumference of our feet, measured around heel point over instep and back, is larger than the classic short-row heel. Without this adjustment, sox are too small there, even if ankle circumference and foot circumference are adequate. The first symptom I notice is that the heel slips under my foot when wearing that sock. So, Thank you for the video, and a new pattern (Vanilla Chocolate) that has already done the adjustments I need!

Hello! I stumbled onto this video because I have decided learn how to knit socks and the feed just recommended this podcast. And so glad it did. I have only watched the spinning part of the episode and must now leave it to go get my spinning wheel out of storage. How inspiring you are!!!! While I learn to knit socks - using commercial yarn - I will get my hand back into spinning. I have never spun so thinly, but now I see what a must it will be to have home dyed, home spun, home knitted socks. Might take a few years, but who is in a hurry? Thank you soooooo much.

This video showed up on my homepage and I am so glad I decided to watch it because something about the way you filmed your cast on and knitting segments made magic loop click for me for the first time. You socks turned out beautifully - you are clearly such a skilled spinner and knitter! - and made me very excited to get my own pair going. I'd love to eventually be able to spin my own yarn as well, but I haven't done any spinning since I was about 8! Still, this was a very inspiring video and I can't wait to catch up with the rest of your channel's content. Thank you for sharing your craft with the world.

I’m so happy to have come across your channel. I’m a new spinner, currently learning on a spindle. I will eventually buy a wheel. My hope is to do a project like this in the future! You created beautiful yarn and socks. Thank you. 🫶🏽.

Hi Liz, i love your videos, so informative, i like it that you explain why you make your design decisions, i have not seen anyone chain ply in a very long time, so it was great to see you do it. i cant believe you've only been spinning a year, you are so poised and comfortable while spinning, and on camera. I haven't seen you talk about setting the twist in your yarn after spinning. Is that not done in the UK? (I was taught to wash the yarn after spinning to "set the twist") I also enjoyed seeing you work the sock toes with one stitch between the increases. My socks wear out in that area, maybe one stitch instead of 2 between the increases would help. Thanks so much!

Your spinning is so beautifully consistent, and chain plying has kept the colours impressively perfectly stripped. I also spin sock yarn and knit socks on circular sock knitting machines. Even commercial self stripping yarn will throw off a match if there is a knot join in the yarn. I am so inspired by your wonderful spinning. These socks, although not matched are beautiful. Thank you x

Oh what beautiful socks! The colourway is very eyecatching and pretty, and your spinning is quite lovely. Thanks for sharing the journey with us! I'm currently spindle spinning some Cheviot which will be chain plied and made into vanilla socks. What a fun hobby we have!

I believe the “magic cast on” in the pattern refers to Judy’s Magic Cast On which is actually exactly the cast on you did! I think the alternative is just wrapping both needles as one instead of doing the figure 8 movement. I am curious where you learned this cast on?

Happy belated birthday 🎂 March birthdays are the best 😇 I’d be interested to know how long the Polwarth lasts for as I have been cleaning a few Polwarth fleeces ready to spin in Australia’s winter. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode as well and thank you Liz ‘cos although I have knitted numerous pairs of socks over the years, never done toe-up, so I have learned a few things (tips & tricks). 😉😘

I figured I'd mention for sock spinning Ashford does make a fast whorl for the Kiwi so you wouldn't have to treadle so fast, just a thought! I have a fast whorl on my Majacraft Little Gem and I'll never go back.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll definitely get one. It's not just sock yarn, I'm finding I need faster spin for some speciality fibres so this is going to be really helpful x

Your socks are beautiful. I may now try toe up socks. I usually knit cuff down. What size needle did you use? I like 1.5 or 2.5mm. I cast on 64 stitiches

I had very similar roving and I ended up doing a cabled yarn with it. How fast do you treadle when you spin yarn.

Really good demonstration and an excuse to buy some polworth as now have an excuse for a braid, and to try chain plying. As a dpn person I want to try magic loop with hand spun but don’t want to invest in those very nice expensive needles as often too sharp, any chance you can confirm the needles you use, many thanks 😊
