In this video I take you from fibre to yarn as I plan and complete my spin to knit the Traveler Cowl, a recent new beautiful design by Andrea Mowry.
The Fibre I'm spinning is Malabrigo Cloud Tails

As well as fibre I blended myself using my second hand drum carder.
Sea Turtle Fibre Arts seaturtlefiberarts.com/
The Sweaters I am wearing include:
The Sheep Camp Sweater and The Rodeo Sweater
and are both designed by Jennifer Berg

I have no idea how is it possible that I've just found you today, but I'm glad you're a long time youtuber, I'll have lots of content for binge watching! :) Have a nice day! (That's my default spinning as well!:))))

Awe thanks! Some of the old stuff is pretty low quality, and man does it feel like forever ago as well. Glad to have a fellow spinner who spins like me here!

Absolutely “interesting and enjoyable”. This video was like a workshop, I learned so much! Can’t wait to see the cowl. THANK YOU 😊

What a great project. I also bought this pattern with the idea of using some of my stash to spin for it. Haven't had a rummage yet, but it's on my mental to do list at some point.

What a great video. So excited to go back and watch your other ones. I love the little learning nuggets you throw in too

with the diz, if you want to make the fiber bundle thicker, you push the diz down onto the fiber as you are doing. It can also push the fiber back and make crossthreads if it gets to tight. To make the bundle thinner, pull the diz out and slightly draft the fiber thinner, then push the diz lightly down as you pull more fiber up/off the cloth. its a balancing act of pushing/drafting to keep it the thickness you want. It came out beautiful in the end regardless!

Yes, and I actually find a small hole works better too.

I’m currently working on a 3 ply combo spin for the Traveler Shawl. Two different hand dyed braids & one undyed white. All cheviot. Your bold experimenting is so encouraging! ❤

Your video is wonderfully interesting and enjoyable to me! I have just 3 plied some similar looking fibre to yours and am pleased with the outcome. Have been wondering what to do with my next project and I'm going to try carding + dizz. Your use of hot and cold frightened me, so it was so interesting to see how it turned out. I so love the experimental and descriptive nature of your videos, they are just what I need

My goal is to use my large stash of handspun this year in a variety of projects. I have smaller bits up to larger quantities. I'd love some project ideas! Enjoyed this video very much.

Fun to see you prep and spin up this project! I'm working on the cowl with handspun right now, too. Mine is a combo spin that's heavy on the blues and greens :)

Love watching your podcasts. I am a new spinner and also new to the Ashford E spinner 3. Loving it so far but thought I would ask about your yarn guides look like they are so easy for you to move. Mine are not easy to move. Sometimes I need to take 2 hands to do it. Any suggestions? The yarn you spun for the Travelers Cowl is gorgeous!

I think your technique looks fine, but the hole might be a bit large for what you were wanting to do. You should definitely buy a doffer to make your life easier. They don't cost much and make it so much easier. Great job creating some siblings to for the Malabrigo! I love color stories like these.

Thanks Sara, I can t wait to see the cowl! can you tell me how you would finish a single like a Letlopi yarn. I wanted to try spinning for an Icelandic knit, but I have never really had great success with spinning singles. I Love what you are doing and I cant wait to see more!

Sara, do you have any videos teaching how you join your fibre while spinning? I saw you break off and rejoin the top a few times and you do it seamlessly. I do something a little similar but with far less skill and much less consistency.

Hey thanks for the question, I don't think that I have one anywhere, I might do a more detailed version in the future demoing different joins, but thanks to you, I filmed and uploaded a quick short showing my preferred worsted stile join (I use it for woolen yarns too tho!) ru-vid.coma2JECj8wcFA

I'm a new follower and you had lots of great information. Next time you diz, try not having so much go through the hole, and place the diz on the tines and just pull the fiber. It takes a bit of practice. Wonderful colours you blended.
