I think Spinal Tap have been a huge influence on Freddie Mercury. If I remember correctly, Freddie performed "Hell Hole" several times during his career to pay tribute to the Tap and always emphasized in interviews how much he owes to Spinal Tap. Isn't even at least one of his songs in the saddest of all keys?
I don't like the ugly rumor that Freddie Mercury (RIP) didn't care for Spinal Tap. Possibly he might have been jealous that Tap thought of doing "Saucy Jack" (the musical version of Jack the Ripper) before he did.
It's obvious that Freddie actually hated the rock group "Them" as they did a better job doing "Gloria" than Queen. Actually, the real reason why Freddie did not like them is due to the fact that Spinal Tap when asked to perform one number, performed a number two (pissing off Queen fans and Freddie).
