I would have to study those drawings for hours and hours to know how to machine everything correctly and for it all to assemble with no holes or moulding on the wrong face! I know exactly how you feel about doing this sort of work, I am almost 70 now and I still get the same excitement when doing a nice piece. I recently made two oak doors, one in Elizabethan style and one in Norman style (pointed top) 75mm thick. As the five chaps were lifting and carrying it out of my workshop, l always feel a great deal of pride. I have to say that your work and video presentation is absolutely enthralling and I really enjoy watching you. Thank you 👍

Same! But I find it harder working to someone else’s drawing, than something you’ve made up yourself. It’s in Ollie’s head already for the most part as he did the sketch up. Takes a couple of bar of pressure off I’d guess 😂 Still mind blowing but

There are few men who know this trade in the states ! It’s done in a factory setting until that person(s) comes along demanding a custom build with an expensive hardwood! Here in the States ( I am a finish carpenter/ contractor) your looking at approximately 15-18 thousand dollars maybe more? Depending on the finish you want considering there is an outside finish and inside finish! You are a talented carpenter/ jointer my friend ! Most do not even know the ridiculous amount of knowledge involved in this ! In fact in the carpentry trade itself !

Wonderful stuff it really lifts me t c this sort of joinery still practiced but ( and this is not a criticism truly it ain’t ) can u imagine the skill and craftsmanship involved before the advent of modern machinery , spindles , thickeners and the likes when it really was literally all done by hand with hand tools plough planes and the likes which was centuries ago u have to take ur hat of to those old long forgotten chippies that produced beautiful joinery like this . That said it’s still great to c a young joiner carrying on and producing real quality work that will stay the test of time and look aphetically pleasing as that ancient joinery from the guys long gone top work son

We're gonna show this to some of our lv3 apprentices at college. If there is a channel where joinery gets made to this standard and with all correct procedures and with such in depth explanation then I certainly have not found it! Also bonus is all the techie jargon is uk specific which helps too!

It looks so cool especially with such heavy sections of timber , no fear of the frame shaking if the door gets slammed!

Oliver, at some point in a future video for this door, can you talk about your double glazing system that avoids the issue of condensation. Great vids, very impressive carpentry, thanks for your hard work to share this with us. Steve

I was so hoping to see you sharpen up those cutters in tormek! I’ve had that same jig for about 2 yrs never used, as I don’t have any double’d up cutters/ spares and I’m scared to ruin one 😂 Brilliant when they’re super sharp and wood Is ‘glowing’

man that brings back so many memories good and bad, using the spindle moulder and walking back and forth a zillion times really slow trying to pull the wood thru a little faster at the end lol, spent many many hours a day on that machine, have to disagree about painting hardwood tho lol it grew for a 100 years or more to look gorgeous with varnish or oil or wax not to be painted over and look like a bit of plywood, fantastic video m8 you got an old guys juices going again cheers Ross 👍👍

The spindle moulder is a joy to listen to, knowing when that sound kicks in & the timber goes through a beautiful piece moulded timber comes out the other end. Re: painted timber I discovered Zinsner pera white a few year ago for the white wood in the house & it's great + it's mould resistant

Great stuff. I have learned a lot. Looking forward to the next video. I agree, the focus you need to keep from making stupid mistakes on this type of joinery does make you tired. Needless to say, I make plenty of stupid mistakes.

Such beautiful work as always! Your narration and instruction is insightful and easy to understand by professionals and amateurs. There’s always things to learn and for such a young man you’ve built up an enviable knowledge. I’ve used a few of your tips over time and bought the trend digital angle as recommended, it’s been handy from day one and is a great tool.

Beautiful work as always! It's incredible to see the process up close and in such detail, I can't wait to watch you build the door itself. What's the reason for using Sapeli over the Accoya you seem to use a lot?

Looking sweet mate. I built an exterior paneled porch a couple of years ago. All sapele, the owner wanted it painted. It wasn’t without some raised eyebrows though.

It will look awesome when it's done and weigh a ton. I don't envy you trying to move it around when it's assembled. Fairplay it will be worth it . Are you spraying it and fitting aswell.

Why would you feed the timber through the spindle moulder in the conventional manner if you have a power feeder that allows you to safely (?) climb cut all the time?

Amazing spindle work, but the spindle moulder machine has always scared me to operate. We had one at an army base wood hobby shop, no one ever used it. I’ve never had a problem using a router table but that spindle moulder is a different animal.

I feel like I need a small person in the bottom corner of the screen like a, signer for deaf viewers, but in my case I need them to have a small model of the door and pointing to what you are talking about when you say Jamb, Transom or shelf. I believe my disability would be hard of thinking.

Could you mould this profile on a smaller scale with a router table rather than a spindle moulder. Would have to overcome not being able to tilt the cutter?

How much time does it take on the Tormek to clean the three-hole euroblock knives up? I notice the steel in those knives is much softer than the Whitehill steel and doesn't last as long.
@BradshawJoinery

i havent got the proper jig, so cannot really answer, i just spend a few mins holding them on the side of the wheel but its pretty slow. id like to invest in a diamond wheel for it tbh! they look good
@DovetailTimberworks
@DovetailTimberworks 8 месяцев назад
@@BradshawJoinery I have a platter style unit in a , multi purpose grinding station and have done them on that but like you say without diamond it's slow going. If I just focus on the very end of the knife I'm removing less steel and it's easier on the abrasive. I've often wondered how much you'd have to take off before you mess up scribe/mould cutters. Great video series Olie, I'm slowly getting caught up!
