@@doniallan998 I’ve played rugby 15s for 8 years now and it works to an extent lol if I am much larger than someone and they get a leg it’s not 100% going to stop me. They’re chances are higher but I very well could just run them over as well. Sometimes the best you can do is slow the big guy down. People do break tackles believe it or not lol

As much as I like American football (as an American), I love watching rugby players hit and tackle. Seems like college and NFL players are *still* constantly leading with their heads even though it's heavily penalized now.
@Dizzifying1
@Dizzifying1 2 года назад
NFL defenders lead with their heads because the RBs also do. If you don't lower your head when a stocky RB lowers his, you'll get blown up and give up a big gain. Unfortunately, because RBs aren't penalized for lowering their head often, defenders while always lead with their head or shoulder.

I played both rugby tackles hurt more we also played on shit fields compared to my football career but they always knocked the wind out of you I played fly half so I got a good beating. Football is amazing the hits don’t feel like rugby it’s like having superpowers and messing up everything in your path that’s why it’s dangerous you don’t get addicted to contact in rugby but in football it’s the best part

Can’t lead with your head with no helmet. NFL hasn’t figured that out yet. Protective gear ain’t just for the defender
@thelastwolffe2167
@thelastwolffe2167 Год назад
As an American who played football, I admire how technical Rugby tackles are. Rugby players always aim to wrap then follow through like a double leg takedown while in American football there is a lot more collision due to players running top speed just to run over someone. I believe it’s because of the gear that football players don’t care much about technicality. In fact when I played you get to be more badass and celebrated by people when you run over someone without going down with them, just standing in front of them while they’re laying on the ground after giving them a big hit makes you look powerful. I can attest that when I put on shoulder pads and helmet, I feel more powerful and fearless. Both sports are definitely tough no question about that.💪🏈💪🏉.
@acecun6202
@acecun6202 Год назад
It’s not that rugby players focus on tackling like that because they WANT to it’s because they HAVE to. There’s a rule saying that you have to make an active attempt to wrap and when tackling your head and shoulder must be below the nipple. These rules are in place to keep people save as well as in my opinion make rugby one of the safest contact sports out there. Injuries due to collision are few and far between due to the strict rules around tackling. It’s even worse at the highschool level (which I played)

In South Africa American football is sometimes referred to as Tupperware rugby because of all the gear lol. It still is an awesome game and those dudes are TOUGH Tupperware or not. My all time favorite American football player was Dan Merino from the Miami Dolphins. Play safe. 😁

@burn1898
@burn1898 2 года назад
Yes because rugby is all about technique, American footballers try to push and battering ram people over with their heads, that’s ineffective. The lower you get, the easier someone will fall. Rugby teaches technique. Think of rugby like heavyweight champion fighting for UFC or boxing, and NFL like a street scrap. Also rugby is 11x more popular than NFL, I feel muricans seem to think rugby is a small sport hahah. NFL is literally a niche sport.

@@burn1898 Too bad rugby players don’t have enough common sense to wear protective gear. They may like to say they’re tough and don’t need it but it is just plain stupid. With all the research on concussions and CTE and this is still allowed? Edited to add: I would really like to see your stats showing that rugby is 11x more popular than American Football. Considering each NFL game has literally millions of viewer compared to MLR which is in the thousands. Average attendance for the NFL is 16.67 million, MLR 160,000. Revenues per season: NFL $16 billion. No stats for MLR on the website I saw but the Championship (equivalent to Super Bowl) had only 6000 people attend and watched by 500,000 (compared to 100 million for super bowl) so I’d say it’s safe to assume not even close.

The greatest rugby tackle of all time was Isitolo Maka on Olo Brown. Auckland v Otago, NPC Match, Eden Park, I think it was around 1998/9. To see the great Olo Brown, a granite of a tight-head prop get stretchered off the field was unreal. The tackle from Isitolo Maka came from the depths of the Pacific Ocean and folded Brown backwards, the body is not made to fold backwards. Instant lights out, curtains drawn, kids in bed 🛌 Isitolo Maka was a human wrecking-ball with so much mass and power. Henry Tuilagi is probably the only other person that is in the same league.

@@matthewbales7254 there’s a reason helmets and pads are worn in the nfl, it’s a more violent game players go head on with each other at 20mph. Most of the hits in the video are just normal tackles in the nfl

@@matthewbales7254 There's really no need to trash either sport you know? They are very different. NFL doesn't depend on endurance as much as Rugby. instead its about quick acceleration from running backs and wide receivers, strength and hand techniques from linemen, and good ball placement from quarter backs. Every down they set up their players for a different play. It's hardly "wet." The emphasis on quick speed makes for incredibly powerful hits, tackles, and sacks. that's the reason for pads. You are getting hit way harder than rugby. These highlights in this vid are hits you see regularly in a normal NFL game. Hell, concussions are more common in the NFL. I'd recommend giving the NFL a look if you are able to watch it this season. Sorry for the rant.

A lot of these seem like regular tackles in gridiron football. I get that we got pads but even back yard football with no pads is not too different from this.

Rugby, Lacrosse, and Hockey are the best! If America has Rubgy I would’ve played that too! Football people always use their heads etc and it’s too annoying how many plays there are imo

Seeing big guys smashing smaller men isnt impressive. Now watch someone like Jerry Collins who crushed men his size or bigger.

The NFL needs to hire some of these dudes to teach proper tackling. Make them practice tackling without helmets on so they suffer the consequences of doing it wrong and leading w their heads. Bet they’d learn pretty quick that way.
