Sailing in Brittany with my new JPK 39 FC. We practice with the chute, have a run in with the military police, dock the boat and explore France ashore. Fast cruising is fun on this powerful mono hull.

Terrific video. I didn't film my early spinnaker sets. Too embarrassing! Love that JPK. I am suffering a severe case of boat envy. BTW, those jets flying over are French Rafales from the base of Landivisiau. Great memories.

Thanks Patrick. I am excited for your next videos and hope we catch up next year. Does every sailor has boat envy? Years ago, When I was sailing up the coast of brazil in uncomfortable conditions I was passed at night by a cruise ship. I Had boat envy. But I bet the captain of the cruise ship was wishing he was aboard my catamaran?

Also thanks for the jet update. Why are they concerned about a sailboat in their practice area. Accidental bomb drop, confuse war game (radar interference), or protection from plane crash?

The light wind speed under the asymmetric is awesome, I can see why the smaller JPK's have won been placed in the Fastnet and other RORC races.

Excellent, your quiet, forthright approach and honesty is a refresher. My boat and sailing are more staid but it is grand to see the other side of the coin. Also nice to feel that someone is not trying to convince me, or sell me something. Look forward to your further adventures.

That is very nice of you to say. I will try to keep it up. What type of sailing/ boat do you have? My goal is have this RU-vid channel be a place where I can learn and share sailing stuff. Any south coast England tips for haul out?
@briandbird6339

@@svcyclops I sail an old school 32 foot sloop. South coast is expensive and I suspect you could get better value somewhere like Roscoff etc. However generally speaking things get a little cheaper the further you are from the Solent, though there are exceptions in places. I would look at the West Country, places like Falmouth, Plymouth and Dartmouth. Grand spots in themselves, they have all the facilities you might need - plus being near the main rail route to London. I guess it depends a lot on which way around you will tackle it. Either way, given fair weather, a circular trip around the Channel is up there with the best sailing of it’s type. YBW forum is a good place to ask for specific stuff once you pinpoint where you would like to be at haul out time.

@@svcyclops There's a nice boat yard/marina setup at Emsworth that is tucked far back in Chichester Harbor. A LOT of maritime history to explore.

Impressive boat handling in confined waters and tremendous boat speed with your asymmetric and main! Enjoyed watching this on a wet cold December day in Cornwall in the UK! Thank you both!

Another great video! I'm seriously envious of your JPK, she's everything I've ever wanted! However, with a lead-time of more than three years it will remain a pipe-dream for me!
@svcyclops

It is worth the wait? I think so. I bet a used boat will come up in 2 years. I had to wait a long time for cyclops because they changed from the 38 to 39 during my order period.

I’m curious as to why you didn’t go for the aft composite structure for solar panels and such. Can you comment on that? Thanks.
@svcyclops
@svcyclops Год назад
Derek I think the aft unit is a must for a hardcore cruiser. On my catamaran it was a huge joy to quickly drop the dinghy. Also the standard solar on the boat is more of a starter battery trickle charger. But this boat is less about being a world cruiser. I eventually will do some serious passages but not weeks at anchor. I will do more marina time. This means the 1 hour dinghy tax is not so bad. To get more power I have 2 alternators, a watt and sea and temporary solar panel for the cockpit. But my best charging device is my shore power cord. The upsides of not having it are weight, headroom while boarding and cleaner look. Thought they did a good job making it integrated.
