oh god she is soooooooooooo gooooooooood...shes got that edge that i love so much and i love listening to this band, brody has to be my favorite heroine (:
"WAH! It's not The Distllers!" Maybe she got tired of fans telling her what she could and couldn't do, and decided to do what she wanted. That's a lot more punk than your mohawk.
Harvey Oswalds' dead and gone He took the last train out of town One minute man has cocked his load Yes baby, rooster on parole Fall into an abyss Won't you give me, just one last kiss Valium knights in my bed Only now, he's a vagrant in my head Golden love is holding on Holding onto what we had before Jfk's sun went down He left the thorns of fallen crown Marilyn Monroe's come I'll swallow She is the guts, the glory, sorrow I'll take it all, give me more I will be your hero and your whore Valium knights in my bed Only now, he's a vagrant in my head Golden love is holding on Holding onto what we had before Loneliness, twilights gone I don't understand where we went wrong
A friend I had bought this album as a gift and someone stole it from me. Years later and it still hurts 🤕 I remember it being beautiful, its packaging was otherworldly.
LOL first thing i thought when i heard valium knights was : 'wow..seems like she really likes The Gun Club...' and i just can't believe people think of bloody Hole when they here THIS.
Awesome :) they played this song on the speakers in our local rock/punk/rockabilly/ska venue and got me all revved up for the show to come. gets me pumped.
+David Murphy Brody never gives up in spite of losing her bands. And that's what I love about her and can relate to. She's still producing and she did some gnarly stuff with Shirley Manson.
+David Murphy Yes. You should. My favorite song they have done together is Girls Talk, you'll see them singing their song together. Then, Meet The Foetus which is 2 songs in one. That makes it pretty interesting as well. Good stuff.
@N73B60 oh bikini kill? damn, i'm insulted that you think i've never heard of them. how about Le Tigre? Hole? because you just named a band about as popular as both of them. hell even mainstream kids know about them. do you walk around your little backwater town thinking you're hot shit because you know some punk bands? and you feel like you have the authority to hop online and be rude to every person with an opinion? what, did i insult your wet dream girl Avril? get over yourself.
I just think this whole thing is silly. If any of you "punkers" knew anything about the genre, you wouldn't be throwing it around so vaguely. There is many, MANY, sub-generes of punk. The Distillers are only a different kind...a kind that attracts kids in their pre-teen to mid-teens...you WILL grow up, and you WILL grow as a person and a music listener. The argument shouldn't me whether Spinnerette is punk or not. Your arguments are invalid.
@juomatauko No comparison. They are different animals. like buzzcocks and magazine or nick cave and birthday party. i truly love her raspy punk rock harrowing vocal lead, its very much missed. but this is not punk rock, this is not the distillers. that band, let's be clear here THAT ENTIRE BAND split up. Bree is doin somn new, and fuck it, ya either like it er not. I happen to LIKE it because fuck expectations, just enjoy an artists repertoire. But thats just mah thoughts. im known to be wrong
Y'know, maybe her voice gets thrashed, singing her Distillers style. And also, if you just do one thing all your life, sometimes you get burnt out, especially these artistic types. Y'know how Metallica went from epic and the greatest, then slowly got shittier and shittier as time went on? Because all they did was the same goddamn thing. They burnt themselves out! Maybe Brody was burning out, so she went with a different style. Deal with it, you jabberwockies.
ok i went saw them the other night. I wasnt optimistic after the support acts, some local emo/mellow rock outfit & Mini mansions. I was stinging for something more upbeat and the lesbian crowd that gathered for Brody didnt help the situation at all. So spinnerette comes on and does there thing. they play their set and i feel like im still waiting for the headline act. The performance was good, however id rather remember watching the distillers. Thats how it goes, they r 2 different bands.
yYeah this is different, but what do you want ? if it was the same as the distillers youd be complaining it was the same. The fact that people keep buying material by a particular artist expecting it to be the same as 6 years ago is just shallow. Fair enough post your opinions. But if u dont like it , dont listen to it. If the music was blad and generic there would be no comparisons and it would suck (more). im going to see em live and build my opinion from there.
somehow disappointing.i love coral fang, and i never expected something like this.too much effects on her voice (and overall)and this style reminds me of Amy Winehouse. It's not bad music and sure they have to earn a living, but imho it lost everything that made The Distillers so 'real' that they really touched my soul. unemotional, really nothing special. :( i don't care about pop, punk or not, they could have made a techno-album, but it has to be authentic. Brody is better than that ..
In terms of the punk movement then it is about opposing cultural and social enforced norms of behaviour and thought. So punk is about being 'opposite' -its about rebelling against what people and society expect you to be and do. Rebellion, on the other hand, is very differet from punk - rebellion may be an armed uprising of oppressed citizens in an attempt to overthrow a dictorial government - are you really telling me punk is the same thing? Of course punk is about opposites.
ermmm....no. punk is about rebelling aganst the norm so, if what punk is becomes the norm then its no longer punk and punk becomes a rebellion against the norm - so if the norm is to dyeurhair red, then the punk thing to do would be to NOT dye your hair. Trouble is, peole think punk is all about the 70's fashion and hair styles - but that was a rebellion against the norm conservatism of the time. So maybe the new punk is to be more conservative in a too liberal society.
Dear SinkAndDi, The Distillers were an innovative band, granted. But I am so tired of hearing people equate the Spinnerettes with the distillers. Listen to this music like it's a totally new band, because it is. The sound is an evolution. Remember this qoute, "Teenage angst has paid off well, but now i'm bored and old"(Cobain, servants). Brody has evolved. Something that intelligent artists do.
I like rancid just as much as the next person. But I like Brody Dalle too. People need to get over the whole "Tim and Brody" shit. They act like they were personally hurt. It's effin stupid. Brody doesn't give a fuck about Tim or Rancid. Do you hear her walking around talking about it? No. Oh, and this is just as good as her stuff from The Distillers.
umm.. it's not the Distillers.. but it IS Brody, and i guess i wasnt expecting their old sound... i was hoping for something new... and this is most definitely new... Brody wanted to do something new, and she way fucking accomplished it!!! way to go! i can't stop singing Valium Knights... (and mumbling the parts that I don't know)
Harvey Oswald's dead and gone He took the last train out of town One minute man has cocked his load Yes baby rooster on parole Fall into an abyss, Won't you give me just one last kiss, Valium knights in my bed, Only now he's a vagrant in my head, Golden love is holding on, Holding on to what we had before
I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! I HATE HER! I LOVE HER! funny comments ^^ i like the song - it has drive x)
You can hear a little bit more of the distillers in this song than other spinnerette's songs. I still think they should get back together. Good for Brody that she can experiment, but cmon y'all- you know this shit don't even come close to the power and beauty of the distillers!!
well so keep on going with that opinion and this alternative, techno music or whatever is,for me really sucks and because of this I dont think I'm a narrow minded or shit like that, just more intelligent beacuse I apreciate music and not this. And I'm not going to waste more time here discussing shit
ok. the distillers were better.......but this is easy listening, its not bad, just not "better" than the distillers. brody is just so awesom. her voice sounds awesome, though i miss her awesome growls!!! but she has a strong voice regardless.
well men, this have nothing to do with racism,I have only express my opinion and if you don't like my opinion I just don't care,if I think this is a shit, for me is a shit. And I haven't criticised you because you like it,so don't do the shame with me ok?
listen to the distillers *we will call that the tim era* or even sourpuss and then now with whats his name from qotsa im not sure nofxdonna is taking into consideration of her now being a mother and well the age thing though... *shrug*
I mean first Distillers albums had some help by Lint´s hand. I´m mega fan of Rancid (transplants etc) and mega fan of Distillers (don´t mind if they are punk, HxC, ska...) but i like this music ;) I dont wanna piss anyone with my comment
T.T man i love brody dalls i so wish i could get into this music im not saying it suck its jsut not my style T.T why did you leave us brody im trying to get into its good music just the beats to slow of me and not hard core
@acmilanpunk Oh you kids are still trying to determine whats punk and whats not. You'll realize everyone has their own opinion of what punk is or isn't. Me its the attitude in the music and this song is punk.
This is the best Spinnerette song I've heard so far but I really can't get into her music now. I freakin loved the Distillers the first time I ever layed ears on em, but I'm sorry I'm just not feeling this Spinnerette thing.
well you ending i love her so lol i guess thats okay. and Spinnerette does not sound dumb her music just. people just grow into there music as brody did and this is what she came up with ... and i love it
The only decent song by spinnerettes, but still, it sucks. yeah i know, don't compare it to the distillers. but it's the same person making this s**t. so it should be compared.
fuckin´amazing, a hole new concept, i like it very much. distilles kick ass. but, this is very good too. i`ve heard the other songs, and they`re all fuckin`awesome. a t least for my taste.
omg !!!! where u it???? i been looking for some soof the new brody's album, but i can't find anything .... anyway good song, but i really was hopping a super riff. but i like it.
Brody is great at whatever she does...but i prefer the sound of the distillers to spinnerette...i can appreciate spinnerette but i prefer a sound thats just a bit more....raw
Whoa, to idiots who didnt finish school~ Punk was a movement (began in London) and a music genre... see, state of mind~ style of music...... similar but different...
yeah i agree , when she was in distillers , rancid was There too in that style , and now , QOTSA is there ,and i hate that band , even that , i dont care , love brody ♥
sounds like she actually found a good band. Chord progression??? Build up???? Multiple riffs?/? Instruments feeding off one another?? So much better than the Distillers.
spinnerette is bad.... distillerst are the best... but brodys voice are great... and i lover her... greeeece from germany... PS. my english is very bad (-;
It's weird, I feel like I'm the only person that likes Spinnerette more than The Distillers... And I got into Brody when she first started with Distillers, too...
Yeah those sparse notes in the background have to be one of the benefits of birthing Josh Hommes child. I'm kinda of hoping this comes out soonish. New Strokes album and new Brody Dalle material, is gonna make 2009 an awesome year for music.
