I think that is why it is important to truly know the source, and the way it is gathered and how the animals or the workers producing the fibers are treated - I use both plant and animal fibers and I would hate to think that someone has been exploited and I paid for it.
Anyone else is like "I want to do that, that looks fun!" when you see these videos about handmade things? Everytime I see a beekeeping video I want to get my own hive, now I want to get angora rabbits to do this, oh and I want a cow to produce my own milk yoghurt and cheese. I'm a lost cause...
my rabbits were the same, when we first got them I was like omg personality wise they are like a mix between dogs and cats who knew! Our female was a moody thing but the boy was very chilled out and cuddly :)
I say they are like a cross of a cat and a dog lol sassy attitude, litter trained, but also like a dog wants to be with you all the time, follow you around and act like you were gone forever when you come home 😆
I saw a video once where they pulled the hair out of the rabbit and it was screaming so much. It gave me nightmares and I swore I would never buy anything made out of angora, but now I think as long as I make sure it’s from a proper person then I guess I could.
Lilliz91 yeah same... That's why you shouldn't buy angora for cheap when you don't know where it is from. I don't know how they do it. Just cutting it off?
I want to buy my own angora rabbit and yarn making tools. Then I'll spoil it with toys and treats and be happy that I know for certain, nothing unsavory was done to obtain the wool. I'll just wait until it naturally needs to shed it's wool and groom it a whole bunch :).
Usually, in factories they pull the hair straight from them, so they scream a lot. If they survive, they let them grow their hair again, and again, and again... That's why watching this video made me so happy
Thank you for making such an informative video! Also, having lived with rabbits, anyone worried about the rabbit being on the table can chill. That rabbit is super relaxed. It looks to me like he's trying to make a space big enough for him to sprall across the table.
Those bunnies are so happy! I have raised rabbits and rescued them for years, and it takes a lot of work and love to get them so happy and trusting and chill. Did I even see a binkie in the background?! You are doing so wonderfully, those are lucky bunnies!
We have had success weaving our homespun, home dyed Angora with a simple triangle loom. It made a great shawl that blooms well and is so warm! Weaving uses less yarn than knitting and I was introduced to it by a spinner who made a lovely scarf on a simple table top loom. She had done all the comparisons and found it made her yarns and wool go much further. Last year I did my own test and with just a few ounces of my baby fine ‘shorts’ (1.5” and less in length) I was able to felt a scarf with just a few ounces of what some would consider unusable! Thank you for taking the time to share your process!
I do not, but what comes to mind is making simple frame style weaving devices shaped to your pattern pieces. If you had, let’s say, a basic large rectangle of pegboard that would accommodate the size of your largest pattern piece and you used removable dowels, you could weave, much like a triangle loom, the exact pattern shape you will be sewing. This has been done in smaller form with cardboard and sewing pins. I don’t know if I’ve explained that in a way that makes sense- I can see it clearly in my mind, but not so great at sharing well. Let me know if that helps!
@@gloriousbeginningsangoras4217 that is incredibly useful information, thank you! I've come across a few tutorials for cutting woven fabric, and apparently you just have to prep the fabric a certain way, but I will also be looking into this method!
I love that you have a purpose for your animals, like your poodle who you bought for his coat, and yet they are still loved so well. It's very obvious. Seeing such a balance is very refreshing
I have a goldendoodle with very soft fur and always wondered if i could use his fur for my crochet projects! people looked at me like i was crazy! this is amazing and thank you for sharing your talents with this community :)
using dog wool/fur is not strange at all. There are ppl in Europe who will make items for you with your dogs fur. I plan on doing that with my husky, when she blows her coat again!
I'm interested in getting into crocheting with angora. This is informative. I love that you care for your rabbits. That, to me, is a sign of good quality.
Great thanks. Love your cheeky rabbit trying to get his nose in everything. Really interesting watching how you ended up making yarn aaaaaaaand you have a very soothing voice!
Thank you for this video! Very informative and to the point! We have French Angoras! We love them! I knit and crochet and I've wanted to learn how to do something with all their beautiful fur! I'm so inspired by your video! Thank you!
Kind, gentle and lovely video. It's clear that you and your family transmit love to your bunnies. They are really healthy and cute. Thank you for sharing this video.
This is my first time hearing about anything like this but it seems cool, I know a lot of products made from animals are cruel so it’s cool to see you’re treating them with respect and so nicely, they seem to really like you so that’s a good sign 😂 also omg how do you handle touching shedded fur so much 😂 I have a husky and she she’d like crazy, idk if I could ever touch shedded fur if I had a choice 😂
I love people who hand make their own stuff. Yes it’s more convenient to buy things ready made but you appreciate your own produce more because of the effort you put in. I started making my own spiced alcohol because of people like her inspiration.
Thank you. Motly had been running outside. That is why she was so tired and thirsty. The poodles were in the house with me, so not so thirsty. I am planning to make a new video about making your own clothes. Thanks Lisa
Your rabbits are so calm . They are obviously so used to being handled and the rabbit on the table wasn't bothered by you using the drum carder. I spin , and have thought of using my long haired Chihuahuas hair . It's nothing like fur, is so soft and fine. And clean. Enjoyed your video very much. Thankyou for posting it
Thank you for being so kind! I do need to ask you a question. How come there are videos where people just pulls on the bunnies fur and rip it? Why can’t they do it like you do? You are kind and care for your animals.
Because she loves them ❤ The ones who do rip them and pull them to the point they are bleeding and screaming... They are monsters, they have no heart, no soul... This kind of people we don't need in our little gem of earth. But she is so kind and gentle, she is a pure hearted ❤🌹
Because they see them only as a source of income, and an outlet for their frustrations, it's sickening but all to common. These ladies however are compassionate and loving.
Those people who just rips them off like that must be psychopath. When there's actually such a good gentle alternative way to do it instead without harming them. Sometimes I feel like we should do the same to those people and see how they like having their skin being ripped off. This nice lady over here makes my heart feel so warm and cuddly. May God bless her and those who are like her💓🤗
Thank you for being such a lovely and caring woman towards these animals! So gentle. I've seen awful videos about where the rabbits are in pain. Thank you so much! You're wonderful!
Blessed be. I love how gentle you are with your bunnies you genuinely care about how they are feeling...ever sense I was little I’ve always wanted a bun bun :D
I love this video so much! My son's have asked me for rabbits. I've always said no, too much work. I'm a crocheter. Now I'm thinking YES! Beautiful little babies, beautiful fiber. 💖
This is such a lovely video. I love rabbits but have never spun wool but it looks really fun. I love mixing dog hair into yarn, I think it's so personal and sentimental.
Mam, you seem such a gentle soul. The verbal and non verbal language says it all. Actually, you reminded me of my grand mother who used to knit sweaters for us, and I still wear them. Regards from Bharat/India.
The primary issue is actually the thickness of the hair. Even when dealing with sheep or alpaca wool, there are different grades depending on how thick the hair shaft is. Angora feels so soft and fine because the hair is so very thin. Dog hair is pretty thick - frequently even thicker than human hair. While people do traditionally spin and felt dog hair, my understanding is it's the undercoat only, and only from specific breeds.
my daughter and I are trying to learn about spinning and have two english angora bunnies. thank you so much for this video would love to see more of you and what you make or do around your acreage :) we are new to homesteading and making homemade things :) thank you so much God bless
Thank you. I am going to make a new video this month. I have some news. We moved into an apartment for people over 55. I have lupus and could not keep up with that acerage. I did bring all of my crafts with me. And work on them every minute that I am able. Enjoy your acerage! Lisa
This is the most purest video I’ve seen in such a long time and I love youre tender heart for the animals. Animals and humans are supposed to have a symbiotic relationship, and this has been the perfect example of that. I’m going to take a looksies at your shop
You are such an inspiration. You live the country life and I love it. I am in VA and need to learn all of this. Our angora rabbit blessed us with 6 babies. I will look for all you videos and check out your website. Thank you and may God bless you with these gifts.
I think about Angora rabbit raising once I settle down! I love the yarn. Your video is great! Caring and attuned to your rabbits and your work. Lovely!
You're my new hero! lol. I see your plants growing inside and your beautiful bunnies (I have two rabbits but only one is an angora but I might mix in some of the other's "wool") and your dogs in the video. And you got a dog to add his fur to the yarn! Lol. What a great excuse for more animals! I've subscribed and I look forward to viewing more of your videos. I am 52 right now and plan on retiring within 4+ years and I look forward to doing all the things!
My Fantasia squeaks as well. Very nice presentation and I enjoyed seeing all of your critters. I have purchased several angora bags of fur but have been intimidated by it's short staple and fluff-o-meter. lol. You made it look so easy that I am inspired to give it a go! Thank You and God Bless.
Lisa, this was fascinating!! Thank you so much for making the vid. Love how you explained the process as well as the varieties of wool you gathered. Blessings to you as well. 👍
Thanks so much for your very soothing, relaxing video and informative. Im new to this and I cant wait to do this in the cold winter months in Alaska. Love your relaxed teaching style. And you have a lovely home and pets.
You are so kind. I love that you love your animals. I also have a bun. She doesn't make wool but I love seeing her everyday and she just makes me feel calm :)
This is soooo helpful! I have just been cutting our angoras hair before it gets too long, but I’ve been looking into saving it and spinning it. Our spoiled babies are about to start making wool! 😍 Thank you.
Thank you for this video! I've started looking into angora (goats mostly) and what it'd be like to make my own yarn for my projects. Many questions I had about the process you answered with this one video, so thank you for the time you took to make it! 😁 Tiger and Tiny are absolutely adorable, and I never thought about using poodle hair in yarn before!
