Great video as always. Was there on Saturday to top up the freezer. The "take 5" initiative Fish Locker promotes is a good one, regardless of where you are, either take 5 bits of rubbish, or take 5 minutes to find some shite to take away with you. Mad how many people stick live mackerel in a carrier bag to suffocate too...
South Shields views are really beautiful. The last time I went fishing was five years ago in the Azov sea, but you've motivated me to try my luck again here in Shields)
great vids mate , keep em coming , just moved to Ncastle and need to get out again now , 74 and still learning can't be bad , how long do the mackerel hang around for , as in what's the latest in the year you would still catch please ? loving some of your replies pmsl great humour without too much insult good lad they deserve it , suffocate instead of let die , or humanely despatch , good job they are not on a trout fishery lol . Cheers again look forward to more .
Hahah cheers Keith mate I appreciate that massively, the Mackrell left around the first week of Oct fully which just shows how warm the water has been...they will be back around July...plenty fish to be had during the day pleasure fishing on the piers tho, and yeah haha they like to try and sucker you into getting a ban but I aint biting hahah let me know if you manage to get out with the rod Keith
The humble mackerel so many dismiss if but like you I use light tackle they give a great fight! Ill look out for you on pier mate good luck with the channel ive just subbed
Brilliant video marra , and on a Monday better than a weekend when its like a Beyonce concert 😀 mackerel in full flow and caught a decent summer cod from those steps cheers all the best 😃 🎣
Cheers fella much appreciated...and yeah I'll definitely not be there on a weekend...think ill go a few more times over the next month...gonna be some nice hot days down there...ive seen some of the codling coming out on the feathers and spinners...ive never been that lucky, well done haha...think iam gonna go sit on them steps with a float and some crab over the next week or two
I swapped rods halfway through the video...so that was a cheapy carp rod..its just separated so I did manage to reel it in haha...although now iam just scared for my nebula hahah ...cheers mate
Once you get a bite, let it hang around for a bit, slow down the retrieve.. the fighting fish will jiggle the feathers and attract more fish which are in the shoal you have just entered.. easy way to fill all the feathers!
Cracking video mate caught me first fish a coalie on the top steps 35 year ago from consett but live In Cumbria now I’m gonna fish the pier in a couple of weeks 🎣
Cheers jed mate....ahh hopefully you bag something nice...nothing better than your first fish...mine was about 25 years ago at the fish Quay in North shields...also a coalie haha
Lmao...bummer on that rod tip thing. But then it's happened to all of us once or twice. Nice size on those Macks. The problem here in Virginial is a real lack of them. Back home in New England (back in the day). Two guys working rod & reel off a boat could do 200 pounds an hour. Those days are long gone. Nice vid bud. Thanx for posting.
Managed to reel the tip back in luckily haha...wow amazing numbers...it does pick up around here throughout august but yeah.. the boats are the place to be
Alreet Scott .. good to speak to you today on the pier mate , keep doing your vids as like I said today your humble approach to the sport is dead refreshing .. your doing great in your fishing too , like I was telling you I’m retired now so no doubt I’ll see you again fishing .. defo try the bass mark I told you about 👍🏻
Areet Mark mate...honestly mate I appreciate that so much...you made my day mate...ill definitely be trying that over the weekend thats for sure...and yeah we will have to get out sometime...your a legend mate thank you
Thank Neil, hmm that all depends on what type of fishing you plan on doing...spinning for mackerel like I do in the video is only from July to Aug...so you could buy a cheap spinning set up ....or if you fancy getting in bait fishing which you can do all year around then your gonna need a bigger set up....I recommend looking at some if the cheap sonik beach and pier fishing rods ...pair it with a cheap sonik reel and some 40lbs to 80lbs braided line and see how you get on...if you like it you can alway upgrade to a more expensive set up....but yeah if you just plan on spinning like me to grab a 40gm spinning rod....a 4000 type spinning reel....some 15 to 20lbs braid....and some 40gm metal spinners....and have at it
The mackerel fishing at south sheilds has been canny lately. I was catching 3 at a time on home made 4 hook day lights. I had to leave after an hour because there was so many!!! Its best to take only what you need. You see some knackers catching 20-30 in a small bucket. Who needs that many?! Nice video though mate 👍🐟
Haha cheers Chris mate much appreciated...yeah its a nightmares like...for a split second I forgot I'd switched to old rod and nearly cried...even worse on the rocks...bet that wasn't a cheap rod 🤣
Didn't realise how much work goes into editing videos. Quality. Nice meeting you on the pier Monday. Remember I lost 2 fish off the trott. Fat kid bald head. Was fishing near you. It's a shame people can't take their own rubbish away. It spoils everything.
Haha yeah they used to take a few days but this one took around an hour to edit...slowly getting there haha yeah was nice meeting you too .... some good craic up there when the right people are there
Well you had canny little session the lad you didn't tell me about the rod though we we meet up a few minutes later I've got a spare spinning rod if you want to borrow it 👍🇬🇧😎
Haha cheers davie mate.. luckily it was just the cheap carp rod and I managed to reel the end back in as it just separated haha...appreciate that tho mate thank you
I do alot if sea fishing and for mackerel I always used my peer rod with a 3 ounce weight and feathers which is not the best really. I have an Amazon account. There are a few spinning rod combos on their. Can you recommend any of them as I don’t want a rod that is too cheap that will snap . I don’t mind paying a few quid for a decent one . Also what size line should I put on a spinning rod . Enjoyed your videos , any advice would be great. Cheers
Heyy...yeah I know what you mean..a pier rod and feathers and weights can be a but much like...I suggest you grab yourself a nice little 8 or 9gt spinning rod...maybe one of the savage gear rods..maybe an sg2 or even a nice little berkley spinning rod...just look for something around that size...maybe about 50gm casting rate max nothing more...then grab yourself a nice spinning reel...either a 2500 or even upto 4000...that real iam using is a shimano sedonna 4000...only £50 and I really like it...Will see you for all types of spinning and lure fishing...chuck on some 15lbs to 20lbs braided line and your sorted...you will get a much better scrap on that and a much better fishing experience
Yup you got that right...there was bags and bags of undersized coalies and pollock...they were literally jigging fir undersized fish and bagging them for "soup" apparently
What way do u dispatch yer mackerel bud ? I put thumb in mouth and quickly press up way breaks their neck and quickest way to do it i think . Anyhow ye not into leaving fish struggling away before death . Tight lines :)
Great vid and aye like you views only take what you need the pier when the mackerel is in brings out the worst in these so called fishermen just cruel cunts to me watching fish flap al over the pier till they die just not rite in my eyes 😢😢👍👍
