Sorry but this is not maintenance on a spinning reel. This is putting gun oil on the bail. To properly do a cleaning and lube you must take the reel apart and get to the gears.

yeah i prefer putting the oil where the parts make contact on the bail arms and not relying for the oil to make its way in there by outside application,i take them apart and apply oil in between where the arm is touching the body and the screw goes in between and also the gear box where i do my best to degrease with kerosene then add grease and a bit of oil as well as lubricate the drag system

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ru-vid.comUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

Totally missed proper maintenance. You lube the pivot points, not the outside of the bail. But, it all begins with proper cleaning. This was just a promo for a certain product.

Snapping the reel closed with the handle will increase line twist.

That's a dumb myth perpetuated by people who lack the ability to understand what's actually going on here, and also lack the common sense to avoid "explaining" things that they can't even picture in their mind. Explaining why you are wrong would take me a few pages of writing, and you probably wouldn't read it anyway. But for what it's worth, I have been fishing with spinning reels for more than 50 years and for the first 45 of those years I used old-fashioned reels that did not even offer the option of closing the bail by hand. More recently, I usually just turn the crank to close the bail because it's what I've always done. In all those years I have NEVER had any line twist. Not a single time. If your line is getting twisted, there are two likely causes, but letting the bail close automatically is not one of them.

@@ericl2969 some fishing seminar I went to a bass pro shop a while back the “pro” they had talking said this. Lol guess he was an idiot just saying nonsense.
@ericl2969
@ericl2969 3 года назад
@@patrickduncanjr.6847 I've seen pros say that too, but I bet none of them are old enough to remember fishing endlessly with reels with bails that only closed automatically, with no one ever worrying about causing line twist, or if they know that some of those reels are highly prized to this day. And if you want, I might try to explain what's so crazy about this idea being true. Or maybe you would care to explain the details of why it IS true. There's actually lot of nonsense about line twist written by people who have no conception about what happens to the line when a spinning reel functions, and couldn't actually explain it if they wanted to. Just because a person fishes for a living doesn't earn them any special ability at understanding nuances of mechanical things. Anyway, even if I were not good at envisioning the details of mechanical things, and even if I couldn't explain what's wrong with this silly line-twist idea, the fact remains that I've made hundreds of thousands of casts, closing the bail by turning the handle, and never had the line get twisted. Line can get twisted but not by how you close the bail. I will add one other thing. In recent years, I've started closing my bail manually a lot more often, but it has nothing to do with line twist. The reason, is something I have heard which I CAN believe and which actually DOES make sense, and that's that the repetitive shock of the bail slamming shut can eventually cause something to break. Modern fishing reels, the high-quality ones anyway, are much more fragile than the ones of long ago. Heck, the expensive reels of today have hollow bail wires! So yeah, it could be that closing the bail manually is a good idea in the long run, just to help reduce the chances of eventual bail breakage .
@ARCSTREAMS
@ARCSTREAMS 3 года назад
perhaps but they say it damages the pinion as it gets shocked in the same place every time you close the bail using the handle instead of closing it by hand ,but i think some reels are so smooth and are designed to be shut by reeling, like shimano

*The reel looks very nice. **allabout.wiki/01fs** But compared to the same model I tested at Dick's, it is not that smooth. I guess this reel needs some run-in period.*

Thank you. My 30+ year old Shimano reel had problems this evening for the first time ever. I never had to do much to it but it locked up on me this evening and a nice fish got away. I'm wondering if I should replace it, due to its age.

My new Diawa tatula bail is awful, it so loosely goosey and flips open on me randomly.. Seems to be a good reel other than that but it’s really annoying when it doesn’t flip all the way shut sometimes..

A question I have. After fishing in saltwater out in a boat perhaps and the reel was exposed to some form of salt water if not a splash or what not onto the reel, could you put the reel in a small bucket or container of water to soak and leave it overnight? The next day you shake out the reel and maybe wipe it after with a cloth and leave it to dry. Would the salt water disappear from being in the warm water overnight from the reel? Waiting for your response, thank you.

Just rinse it gently with fresh water. That's all it takes.

oil on the plastic parts is ok ? i noticed on one of my reels the line roller has one end with a dimple and a small hole in it is this for putting drop or two of oil for the bearing?

I dropped my Daiwa BG reel in the lake recently. It was submerged a good 20 minutes. Do I need to open it up and clean it like how you have shown or anything different?

I appreciate the video. But you didn't stress the line roller. That is one of the parts/bearings that goes bad first.

do some reels have a lube point on those? i noticed on one of my reels there is a dimple and small hole on one end of line roller assembly ,i unscrewed the other end and yes it does have a ball bearing for the roller and what looks like something that looks like it absorbs and holds oil .looks like a yellow rubber or sponge like material
