Spent a few years there under similar circumstances .. most wouldn't be able to comprehend .. as I mainly sit here in my 80's waiting .. thanks for blending those memory's with those of mine and of my boys that made decent career's from those memory's .. one of them sent me this ..Thanks

Many hunters enjoy the thrill of a hunt, unique scenery, beautiful animals, and tasty meat. But few, genuinely, cherish it to the point of making it their lifestyle. This film does an excellent job of conveying the passion felt by those dedicated few. Nicely done!
@jessjoeking
@jessjoeking 5 лет назад
WTF ever. This guy guides for trophies, not meat. He abandons his role as father and provider to direct others how to kill for thrill. There is nothing manly or worthy of celebration in this parasite on the planet. Git ya head out ya ass.
@4wheelliving132
@4wheelliving132 5 лет назад
@@jessjoeking go back to your house in the city cupcake. The land can only support so many animals, the surplus can be taken with no harm to the resource. Hunting brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars to local Alaskan communities that have few options for making money, with hunts like this probably costing in the $20,000+ range. Get YOUR head out of your ass and quit trolling videos like this and watch gardening videos that would probably suit you better
@jessjoeking
@jessjoeking 5 лет назад
@@4wheelliving132, eat this: My ancestors have roamed this continent for tens of thousands of years (or more), and managed to live in unison with the earth and the bounty it offers. I don't live in a toxic city environment, nor do I support the idiocy that has desecrated each and every society it has touched. You can live onward as the half witted moron you display, but I am choosing not to be a part of the problems plaguing the planet, but rather a part of the solution(s). Money is no excuse for disrespecting this planet or the living entities within. Try not to be completely fucking retarded in your next reply, as I'm sure you can't resist. Good luck.
@jessjoeking
@jessjoeking 5 лет назад
@J A, I would agree with a revision of your statement that reads: "Some people eat trophy game." I'd encourage you to research the topic, so you come into your comments from a placement or standing of knowledge. I am. I know. I know that trophy hunting needs to be abolished, and those who continue the practice illegally need to be prosecuted. I know that in this day in age, we are as a whole, much further along in our development to continue supporting that which causes more harm than good in a multitude of ways. Trophy hunting, and the capitalist endeavors surrounding it are a perfect example of this. Hunting and killing game to feed your family, feed your community or to be a part of that cycle is a natural means to sustenance. Hunting and killing to feed a lust for superiority, empowerment or control should be considered unacceptable by any well educated, well developed and mentally balanced person. Sadly, as evidenced in these comments of rebut, this is not the case.

Great way of life, and not for the faint of heart. As a young boy growing up in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York, I had over 6 million acres as a playground. I regret never stepping foot in Alaska, but have always dreamed of it. It isn't too late, I will be looking for a service to hunt within the very near future. Great story, and thank you for preserving the rich and dignified history of hunting and trapping. Real men, real-life histories that embody the very essence of what living a real life is like. Nothing phony here!!!

Thanks for this Billy. I'm 64 years old now. When I was 31 I packed up my wife and little girl and moved to western Montana to guide hunters and pack horses. Thoroughly enjoyed it for a few years before I let life get in the way. I should have stayed with it as my wife would have supported me in that choice. I've always longed to return to those times. I wish I would have had someone to tell me what your grandpa told you at that age. This film touched me so deep down in my soul that only those few others know what I'm talking about and it would be unexplainable to anyone who would ask what I mean. Thank you so much for this. Max

You're so lucky to have been able to spend any time w/ your grandpa, as mine died two months after I was born. My grandpa was a merchant marine during WW1 & WW2 and I've always felt an affinity w/ water and sailing. He lived on the island of Bermuda and I have recently discovered which neighborhood/house he lived in (gotta love the internet). I plan on visiting some relatives there next year. Never had any connection to my relatives, but have enjoyed rediscovering some of my family history. Be well and live long.

If people want to learn they have to make time to learn it. You can show a person something hundreds of times but they won't get much from it until they do it for themselves.

Great vid...In the last 6 months I had to wrestle with moving back into civil6 due to health. At 70ish and having spent 60 years at tundra in the high Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the decision to move closer to people was not a easy one. I managed to find a house on a lake in the foot hills that had the facilities I needed. I am half blind, broken down body but still "the spirit of a mountain man". Getting used to people being around is the most difficult. When all gets to bad...the mountains are always there for a last walk. This vid describes well the driving force behind the drawing to high ground d and wilderness...for I have pinsol instead of blood, endurance for cold...and can stand my own company for a long time. I am my fathers son and live for pure freedom....I am Native!

That was my dream the whole time growing up hunting, trapping, fishing the Northern lands o Michigan, but at the tender age of 37 years old i was stricken with a most deadly Cancer a unman being could acquire. So to that. End i have endured Three times in my life that i was stricken with that horrible illness, But finally a brave young man of 23 old donated a part of him so i could live, I thank God everyday that I was able to see my children to become good adult Human beings and now Three Beautiful Grand Children, Two Girls and One Boy who is Five Years old, My Hunting years were taken from me for a while but i am now passing my knowledge of a dying life of a Outdoorsman. He is so totally interested in everything about the Woods, Hunting, Fishing, Trapping. Your beautiful story resonated with my Grand Son and I. I hope to live the rest of my life teaching every aspect about how to be and Outdoorsman at 54 years old now i can get to like i could years back, but i do what i can to teach him that dying life in the woods or just outdoors hunting for your food and not relying on the stores to get my food and he will be the same way because he shows me how to set a snare for small game to funny thing his nobody has ever show a dead fall tap. He came to me out in the yard one day and said pap paw i want to show you my trap for a Rabbit and sure enough it was a complete trap and i didn’t have to change a thing to make it work and he is 5 five years old, he sure is a natural. Thank you for allowing me a tired fella who never got to live his dream of Alaska living on my own wits in the Bush, I envy you my friend. Be safe and God Bless you in every way.

If you're a hunter that truly loves to hunt and love the outdoors this video hits the right spot. If I could do it all over again I'd be right where you're at. Great film and the country there looks amazing. My drive for the hunt keeps getting stronger each year and this film just makes a hunter want to be there now. Keep filming, keep sharing. This is a very well made mini film!! One quick feeling on my end: Many great wilderness folks may never have stepped foot on a mountain. 3 quarters of Canada and much of Russia is non mountainous. No shortage of great wilderness lore and legends no doubt. ..I guess the term mountain man never came around until the mid 1800s when the west started to open up. Anyone who likes watching this, I would highly recommend Happy People - A year in the Tiaga.

@Shawny T - I completely agree with you on that. Thanks for bringing up Wilderness Folk. This video had me comparing his life to my Norwegian g-g-g-grandparents living in Minnesota and N. Dakota in 1846 with less than 100 other Immigrants within 700 miles - and they had their kids with them. What made them stay? This beauty and connection to nature - and not a mountain in site. I, too, have watched "Happy People - A year in the Tiaga" three times. The first time in 2013 and I have recommended it many times to friends and family. It's now on YT but the title is in Russian.

Great video! "The Lure of little voices" Robert Service There's a cry from out the loneliness -- oh, listen, Honey, listen! Do you hear it, do you fear it, you're a-holding of me so? You're a-sobbing in your sleep, dear, and your lashes, how they glisten -- Do you hear the Little Voices all a-begging me to go? All a-begging me to leave you. Day and night they're pleading, praying, On the North-wind, on the West-wind, from the peak and from the plain; Night and day they never leave me -- do you know what they are saying? "He was ours before you got him, and we want him once again." Yes, they're wanting me, they're haunting me, the awful lonely places; They're whining and they're whimpering as if each had a soul; They're calling from the wilderness, the vast and God-like spaces, The stark and sullen solitudes that sentinel the Pole. They miss my little camp-fires, ever brightly, bravely gleaming In the womb of desolation, where was never man before; As comradeless I sought them, lion-hearted, loving, dreaming, And they hailed me as a comrade, and they loved me evermore. And now they're all a-crying, and it's no use me denying; The spell of them is on me and I'm helpless as a child; My heart is aching, aching, but I hear them, sleeping, waking; It's the Lure of Little Voices, it's the mandate of the Wild. I'm afraid to tell you, Honey, I can take no bitter leaving; But softly in the sleep-time from your love I'll steal away. Oh, it's cruel, dearie, cruel, and it's God knows how I'm grieving; But His loneliness is calling, and He knows I must obey. Robert William Service

Wow! Grandpa planted a giant seed. The vast majority of us are living a rubber stamped life.

Wolves hunt mostly for the meek, the old, the sick, the weak, prey animals unfit to sustain and disseminate a strong gene-pool to enhance and secure the species; the human trophy hunter is after the animal of prey when it's in its prime, he takes always the strongest, the fittest, the best equipped and needed to reproduce and keep the species healthy and strong, and necessary experiences for survival past down the generations. Which predator is going to cause more harm to the balance of nature and its species, wolves or humans? The answer is simple, it does not need rocket science to be backed-up, yet for all doubtful or ignorant hunters, the scientists have proven that the reintroduction of wolves back into habitats they once have been extirpated from was of greatest success not only for the canines but for the entire eco-system, the overall environment, from the re-emergence of wetlands, rejuvenated lakes, and rivers, streams to all living flora and fauna.
