Did that April 2020 when Aftermath by The Ghost Inside came out. You had to know a bit about the band and what happened, but it was the first cry-headband I had.
Courtney is probably my favorite vocalist right now, and Spiritbox is easily in my top 3 metal bands right now. I can't wait for the album in September.
@@arpadreszl3545 I've been binging a ton of progressive metalcore lately so they'd be Crystal Lake (especially their latest album) and Erra (the entire discography). Hope you find something in them!
\M/ with you brother There’s a true community in the “pit” deep down. You could say we all have a secret garden of our own and I reconnect to mine with deep and entrancing music no matter the style.
How have I not heard of this band until now? Holy crap I need to check them out! That guitar alone in this song is insane. That's some Rings of Saturn style playing and IT'S THE BACKGROUND?!?
I know your well versed in vocal technique and as a vocalist I love that but shit man do you know what I enjoy more is seeing someone have the same emotional effect that most songs have on myself and others that really "feel" music. Watching you have a moment at the same point in tracks knowing that certain elements hit home is nice to watch and enforces how music brings us all together. I see you all!
Was going to post pretty much the same thing - the emotional attachment that comes with music I feel is reflected in how Mark reacts. I love music. We love music.
First time I listened to this song I was like "eh it's okay" but I kept listening to it and then new things are noticed and I just like it more and more.
Same here man. I loved the first verse immediately but the rest seemed kinda "meh", but it grew on me. Same with Constance after watching the video. Never write off a Spiritbox song :D.
In a recent interview for Kerrang, Courtney said that she faced depression still at a very young age, and that all the songs on the album are a way that she can recover herself and get through. I haven't seen any comments about the song or the video. But like Blessed Be this song and video are filled with metaphores. The 4 women in the video represent Courtney and the Secret Garden maybe be her innocent side, and how we should focus in ourselves at the good sides not our demons. As she said in the interview, we have in Holy Roller and Circle with Me, Courtney talking to her demons
Beautifully said! I agree very much with your interpretation. It speaks to me about what I think is probably the most fundamental thing many of us have not yet achieved: To be grounded and accepting of one self. To really get to know yourself and have a set baselevel of self-reliant happiness in your "secret garden" before you head into the world relying on relationships due to lacking self worth. It is a broad and hard lesson to learn and I found it not easy to understand intuitively. But since I am starting to do so, I find that many songs, movies, stories and books try to get us there. It's just not something that is easily told in one lesson or one sentence. It is like it behaves with everything. It takes a while to get good at it, like with learning a new instument. Over enough time with enough "seeds" planted, your "secret garden" will blossom and in return give others fertile ground for growth like Spiritbox are with their music.
A tiny detail in the first chorus that I love - the top note on “I”, the first three times she hits it, she flips up to it at the start of the syllable. But the last time, she slides up to it, so you can hear that register switch mid-syllable and it sounds SO good.
Another Spirit Box reaction! I CANNOT wait for this. Spirit Box blows me away every time they release something new. I cannot express my love for that band :)
It seems to me that Spiritbox could potentially be a gateway for many listeners of rock/hard rock into the more hardcore subgenres. They are already getting heavy play on 2 different SiriusXM stations with different songs and while that is risky because the soft stuff may alienate the more hardcore-centric listeners and vice versa, it also basically doubles up their potential fanbase. I am excited to see where they go from here and damn sure excited to see them at Louder than Life in September.
I gotta say, seeing your reaction... It seems like this song is something like a 5* Chef's Kiss Buffet for you. The lyrics, how Courtney sings, the guitars, the bass... This song is such a total package and it's just pure fun seeing reactions to it.
This song is both one of their most proggy sounding and also radio friendly songs. 10/10 this song is on repeat the rest of the year. Courtney is officially my favorite singer right now
Makes me happy to see that you noticed the bass is actually guitar. Mike is doing a Tosin-esque tapping/plucking part which kind of sounds like bass, but it's not. That's the benefit of a low F# tuning, good pick ups and some EQ, plenty of low end and clean too.
Spiritbox is an emotional revelation for me. It's nice to see it affect other people the way it affects me. I've grown to love reaction/analysis videos because it's just wonderful to watch someone be overtaken by the song they're reacting to.
I have to give a huge thanks for introducing me to Spiritbox with your reaction video to Holy Roller. Spiritbox can't make a bad song and it has been amazing. Looking forward to September.
@@Shiftaws I didn’t notice how good the music was because of how in the background most of it is. Her singing too. Like I didn’t notice what he was pointing out about it. Better than I expected. This album is going to be pure gold.
@@sungazerxtarot idk. I've listened to a ton of STS and this just doesn't sound like their stuff. It's more Tosin-like than Chris-like. Spiritbox certainly has a unique sound that we all can enjoy as they continue to explore even more musically!
I remember seeing so many pissed off fans when she took over for Krysta in IWABO, seeing her and Mike doing so well and receiving the praise they deserve feels like full circle and then some, I'm so happy for em. This track is, once again, such a unique bop ♥️
This song hits me straight in the feels and I literally have no idea why. It makes me want to cry every time I hear it but I don't really understand the reason for it. It's a beautifully done song and I think one of the stronger ones on the album.
I just came off a very mutual and mature break up and tend to suppress my feelings with those sorts of things but listening to this song is literally impossible for me not to cry and feel the feelings. I love it in the deepest way possible
Album preordered , this will clearly get best new metal album of 2021 ! And it will help bridge a bunch of new ppl into the metal genre that wouldn’t have given any metal band a chance.
I'm new to the channel but I'm loving your reaction videos thus far. Absolutely love spiritbox and Courtney in particular! How you done anything on Periphery yet? Spencer Sotelo is maybe my current favorite vocalist doing that proggy/djent/metal, whatever you wanna call it, style. So good. 🤘
I must admit, even I'm surprised we haven't done anything on Periphery yet - I've definitely been meaning too! I guess if they drop new music anytime soon, that'll be the perfect time!
I share every ounce of love you have for Spiritbox. They seriously make some of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Seeing you react the same way I do is pure joy ❤
So much bass how metal songs should be let it shine! Guitars were awesome and the vocals oh my! This band is slowly becoming one of my favourites such a talent! All of them
I LOVE that riff before the chorus. It's an incredible callback to their older stuff, but so much improved. Courtney's performance is just outstanding, her subtleties are all in the spotlight. Just a phenomenal song. Fuuuuuuuck man, I cannot wait for their album release in September. I've never been more excited for a release, haha. Also, I believe Constance is about her grandmother's battle with alzheimer's. This one seems more like, maybe a little bit of that, mixed with her battle with depression, and possibly some sort of past relationship? Idk, that's kind of what I'm getting.
I picked it up first listen as well. He's doing Tosin style tapping with that low end to make it sound like bass. Even more impressive is he did this on a 7 string.
Your reaction is out for a while, but I just saw it and I'd like to give my interpretation about the song, because it's been in my mind for quite a while... About the meaning, the lyrics give me a vibe like "finding a safe place" (literally or inside our minds, applies to both ideas of this concept), but the video has some complex layers and it's tough to have a solid answer... my guess is something like struggling while trying to take back the creativity, imagination and inspiration once you're damaged and sad, feeling empty, like a void (depression, maybe?)... that "ludic" state most likely can only be sparked by a more "naive" mind (and sometimes, there's even an effort to shut it down in that naive phase). It still can have some connections with the idea of a "safe place". If you ever see this comment, I'd really like to read your thoughts about this interpretation. Keep up the good work, you're amazing!

Dude, your in-the-moment technique examples are great! Spiritbox is what I always wanted 90s bands like Linkin Park to evolve into; it feels like a natural extension of visceral heaviness and ear-wormy melodies. Also, would love for you to do a reaction to the *Delain* song "Burning Bridges." 🤘🏼
\M/ Keep rocking on. You’re so good at breaking this down for a non singer you really open my eyes to VOX As an instrument There’s a true community in the “pit” deep down. You could say we all have a secret garden of our own and I reconnect to mine with deep and entrancing music no matter the style.
If you can get a hold of spiritbox's constance reimagined video they performed.... I would love to see your reaction of it. I thought of you as soon as I watched it that you would lose your mind over the vocals.
There's another thing I love with this song that isn't really being as noticed because it's subtle and it's during the complex sounding prog guitar part Bill their bassist is complimenting it perfectly. While it doesn't sound overly complicated what he's playing if it was removed you'd instantly notice it.
Since you are absolutely loving Spiritbox (I am too), may I recommend a less well-known band? The Great Discord. I can see many similarities between them and Spiritbox, but also good distinctions from one another. Song-wise, I'd recommend "Omen," The Aging Man," "Darkest Days," and/or "Noire." Cheers!
Loved your Falling in Reverse reactions, you'd love Drugs. Great song, and when I first listened to it I didn't know who was in it, and oh man, I laughed like a maniacal child when they come in!!! Your jaw will hit the floor!
