Spirits of the West Coast Gallery is an art gallery located in Courtenay, BC. showcasing artists from Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii. The focus of the gallery is to share pieces of art and facilitate opportunities for people to learn the stories behind them.
Walter and the West Coast Gallery team were preparing to launch in March of 2020 but just before they could, the Covid-19 Pandemic hit. The team got to thinking on how they could still launch while being safe. So the team created a 3D virtual experience. This experience allowed viewers to go online and do a walk through of the gallery, clicking on art pieces and seeing a video from the artists talking about the art piece and the story behind it. The team also added a feature where people could test out the artwork at home to see what it would look like on their walls, allowing customers to buy directly from the site. With this new experience the team had an amazing and successful launch, they also reached a larger audience that might not have attended the gallery in person.
The team then created QR codes for each art-piece in the gallery, so when customers could come to the gallery in person they could scan the QR code and watch the artists video talking about their artwork.
