A lot of people in spiritual circles seem to think that spirituality is about always thinking happy thoughts, pretending you're a starseed and hoping that some higher power will save you. It's actually the opposite.

I just recently came across Dr. Mate and he is truly a profound speaker. It's not as noticeable in this interview, imo, but if you take a look at his talks to audiences, I've found that an hour and half talk is full of so much insight, practical wisdom, humility, personal experience, that it really is inspriational to listen to. I'm glad he is not out there as a 'spiritual teacher', we have enough of those. What he specializes in is actually making us aware of obvious truths that our society and culture has denied us the privaledge of being aware of. It is also an adding icing on the cake that he was a medical doctor; he restores my faith in the possibility that a medical doctor can actually be awake and not stuck in a clueless ideaology. Thanks Gabor!

Healing is finding your essence - Love/Light by dealing with what blocks it... (inner pain, suffering, false believes - fears, worries, doubts, expectations, etc ... ). Becoming whole comes later... when every part of your returns back to Love/Light. Enjoy!

Our wholeness includes things about ourselves that we want to deny and that we don't want to know. Wholeness is not all sweetness and light. But until we acknowledge and integrate All of what we are, and not just the parts we like, we will never be whole.

Depending on where you're coming from with this, you are either wonderfully right or offensively wrong. In making a case for our 'wholeness' as the equivalence of 'healing' indeed he (Mate) is bringing us 'back to God'. And if His Son is a manifestation and exemplar of wholeness, available to each of us, then indeed, you're on the right track. But if you are suggesting a literalist, fundamentalist version of the Judeo-Christian story, where 'God' requires a blood sacrifice to cleanse the 'sin' in all of us, you are out to lunch to put it mildly.The theologian John Shelby Spong has the right sense of it, compatible with the deep wisdom of Dr Mate, I think. Lots available on RU-vid for anyone interested.

Spirituality must not be undermined. It is not to be used to accept or ignore any issues from childhood which affect you in real life but it's a helpful and soothing mechanism to help you cope. Psychology as offered by Gabor gives invaluable self awareness and self understanding which is important to give yourself a break and self help but it's often not enough and may not tell the whole story if you're not offering anything else it's not always enough. All the oldest wisest cultures use spirituality, (not dogmatic exploititive religions which need a middle man) to live a peaceful contented life. Hopefully you're savvy enough not to be fooled or exploited by anyone. In this life no one is truly alone and its important for everyone to know that.

I love listening to him amd this discussion. It is only natural to want to seek greater truth and to connect with a Power greater than ourselves in a spiritual way. We are imperfect humans living in a very volatile world full of evil. At every turn we need to be on guard to protect ourselves from the other Powers that will take us into darkness at any moment. Seeking connection with our true creator is only natural. We are screaming out because we can feel the extreme tension in this world we reside in. Firat and foremost Prayer has given me relief from my 22 yr long addiction. I've heard it said, you take one step closer to Him (our unidentifiable creator) and he will take 10 steps closer to you.

Gabor is absolutely on the mark about who we are - we are seekers. But I say we are seekers, or we are nothing. There is not worth in blindly following, conforming, or pursuing. To be worthy, we must seek, and to find, do so with all our heart. To be ordinal, when more than half the world suffers through poverty and/or injustice, is not worthy. We are seekers, and life is not a gift as much as it is a task.

Healing the ancestors is a form of healing past pain, through the present moment. To connect with the pain and transmute it as "one unit" for the whole of human kind, all the living things, and Mother Earth. It's actually pretty sacred and I feel we should greatly appreciate them for what they do. Mother Earth is a living entity. She also has a mind and a higher self, Gaia. The natives and tribes connect with that essence and all of the spirits (physical and non physical) nature spirits. It's intensified, purely focused attention on being present with the pain along with spirits such as tobacco and plants with the intention to achieve that higher state . Usually in attempt to heal the earth, the mplanet, protect future generations.. They have many rituals that nurture and care for Mother Earth, protecting the land , respecting the land, they have rain dances to bring about rain, their ways of respecting nature and the food they take in...as One unit. All things are connected and time IS an illusion, so why wouldn't they have ceremonies and rituals to "heal the ancestors" ? They are outside of time and space in that moment. They have an awareness that makes a most other populations seem primitive. Even the topic of homosexually, it's still seen as a taboo and "wrong" to a very large population across the u.s.a and other countries, and yet, in native American culture, if someone was born into their tribe as homosexual or bisexual, they would be highly respected and regarded, sometimes as head of the tribe due to their ability to have both spirits dwelling within one body. A balance of masculine and feminine in a single human body. Therefore the perspective of that individual would have a huge window of perspective and balance, they would lead others. I have found "the gay hero's journey" pretty interesting and accurate. Not because I am a lesbian, but because I feel like it gives a clear explanation on what the path embodies because DIFFICULT is an understatement. Talk about being excluded, belonging, outcasted and shamed, feeling like you don't belong to a tribe.... not even feeling like you belong in the right body. Society is geared and set to a standard of being and living and what's right /wrong and if you are gay, you are either mentally ill, a pervert, you were molested, or basically something is just wrong with you. And that's how you have to cope through life because trying to be straight feels so suffocating and denial of our heart so you are forced to BE WHO YOU ARE no matter the price ... at times feels like a pain worse than death. Everyone who ever told you they loved you unconditionally, you come out of the closet and then tell you that they don't want you in their life anymore. So yeah the gay heros journey is pretty interesting and Deep. I wanted to bring that up in order support the ancient techniques and beliefs of Native American cultures, some of the truest healers of the world.

Yes ! Multiple levels. Simultaneously. Greeks had Theseus face the Minotaur : half human / half bull, lived in the labyrinth thanks to sacrificially given virgins - the very seed of life. My own labyrinth ended up with many chambers. And seeking my Minotaur in one only meant the ‘Beast’ waited for me in a different chamber. Always “new”. Always the “same” though. Always evading my efforts / attacks in a new disguise. Twelve years ago, it finally came to my senses I had to fight all fronts simultaneously. That no single front fight would do. I did not know Gabor (only in 2022 did my son present me with his material). It was an uphill battle in the darker corridors of the labyrinth, feeling my way along the walls that I thought imprisoned me. In 2022, although with considerable success in some aspects of my life, the body snapped into multiple myeloma cancer. Time to pay the piper. Gabor’s conferences brought the key to the keyhole. I now understand I stand not inside but outside the labyrinth. Or rather that it is within my power to position myself in or out of it. It is more a question of putting myself within reach of my Minotaur, or simply out of reach. It is amazing how oxygen will readily attack iron, but not stainless steel. At 72, I may not be able to change from being iron to being aluminum or copper. But I can certainly add traces of elements like nickel and chromium and… that will take me closer to being like stainless steel.

I don't seek truth I seek reason. I've always believed the voice in my head was my god or guide. I never believed my god needed a pope to show me the way. Religion is regional and can be seen sinning all around the world. Faith is a feeling within me and can be felt anywhere I go.
@unitinharmony3336

From lived experience, I would advise most strongly against seeking reason, at least within the motivations of others - it is a really good way to do your head in because often times there is no rhyme or reason to be discerned in the conduct of others - it always has to do with where the other party happens to be personally, and does not signiy anything about you.... Remembering that is hard sometimes,.. 💜

Love it. There can be belief without faith!
@kenwilliams8067
@kenwilliams8067 6 лет назад
Indeed. Faith is the ground out of which belief(s) arise, infinitely. Faith is wordless (preverbal), beliefs are articulated. Belief is faith articulating itself (or as RG Collingwood put it, reason is faith articulating itself). Or, if I understand the physicist David Bohm correctly, faith is more like the implicate order, belief the explicate order. The way I understand this graphically is to look at a necker cube (simple), or a hyper cube (complex). Faith is like an awareness of the entire web of lines, of which perhaps no sense can be made, no pattern (thus inarticulate), but if you are looking at one, of course, your mind works to find a pattern. One jumps out at you, and you entertain it for a time. But soon the image will shift, and you'll see another jump out at you. Each manifestation of a pattern brings order out of chaos, but the problem arises when we attach ourselves to any one order or pattern (belief). We try to hold stable the orderly image (belief) when other patterns are potential and threatening. Interestingly, Shakespeare kind of touched on this process when he wrote in Midsummernight's Dream "... imagination bodies forth the form of things unknown, and gives to airy nothing a local habitation and a name..." So the fact that there is belief without faith rests in the withholding of the infinite possibilities of belief. A stop to the birthing of new possibilities. This entire discussion of faith and belief is paralleled in science when theories are given up as 'truth', not theory. I've heard the science guy Tyson actually make this mistake... saying science is about truth, not theories. That's like saying 'belief is faith' which is a subtle error. Belief is an expression of faith, out of an infinite range of possible expressions... (acknowledging that some expresions/ theories/ beliefs have more, or less, pragmatic and utilitarian value at any given time and in any given context).

If you know (find the truth about a situation, how things are, real truths of existence, etc) you don't need a believe or faith. Believe is having faith that something might be true... The Truth is only found within yourself. It is seeing how everything is without projecting any believes. It is perceiving from your essence - Love/Light. All of this makes sense if it is experienced...
@TheJeanette53

Ken Williams I think it’s the other way around. Belief is the ground out of which faith arises.

Dear Gabor Maté, your talks are pure gold. I can not refer to your profound insight and kind attitude any other way. It would be a pity if just because of the mere articulation of the words (which is not always clearly understandable by non-native speakers) foreigners would be deprived of the possibility to listen to you. Thank you if your time if you are reading this.

This is awesome 😎 I often think that in the past humans settled with people that worked well for them and then they grew up together and really got to know each other. So yes, he makes a great point that we are uprooted and dislocated and made to act superficially... and personality aspects that are deeper are covered over and buried by the fast paced shallowness. We don’t get to be who we were meant to be.

Healing is finding your essence - Love/Light by dealing with what blocks it... (inner pain, suffering, emptiness, anger, false believes - fears, worries, doubts, expectations, etc ... ). Becoming whole comes later... when every part of your returns back to Love/Light. Enjoy!

Beautiful content. I am enjoying my experience of Dr Gabor and how I am learning more about myself and able to pay that forward to other peoples journeys back to wholeness. I noticed a lot of people get annoyed at the music, my invitation is explore where that annoyance or frustration resides? What drove you to comment? What is that anger? From my experience when my ego becomes challenged it can deflect and distract from the truth i.e Music. No judgement, just an invitation to look inside.

For me, faith is acting on something you know inwardly to be true. Believing is acknowledging something as truth without acting on it. That’s how there can be belief without faith.

This man opens eyes on what we are taught not to see: any system that teaches us we must compete with others, forget our real human needs (we don t need to be filled with material stuff) must be abolished. But this system is denying its responsabilities, and puts it on the individual being. And individual beings die of this terrible «trick». It s so vicious.. So yes, we have some infividual work to do, but Mate discoveries tell us there are inner problems AND there is a CONTEXT around us, making us sick. We are not guilty for not bearing this terrible «economic» (not sure sucking out the earth is really economic, though) system. We won t heal apart from what surrounds us. Thinking «IN/OUT» is really a great subversive way to see the whole bunch of reasons we have to suffer. Abusive parents tell their children THEY have a problem, and so does this system. The wounded one must be blinded on what hurts. It makes people crazy.

I find spiritual seeking to be a wonderful way to develop new capacities for spiritual practice (which our temples and churches shockingly neglect), and a wonderful way to connect and establish relationships with others who are making this a priority and who are willing to do the inner work of integrating/tempering psychological aspects. Yes there are people who break from normal life and go to ashrams; but I find them as people who simply have no resources in their current culture to expand their consciousness. It's possible, but most cultures lack the expertise in the path....IMHO
