I haven't touched a DAW in almost a decade, but I just started back using Reaper with some of my old Synths and Orchestral libraries, stumbled upon this one and filled out the survey. Can't wait to download i.
Another great video. Thank you for the template. I'd built my own but this is much better. Subbed to Erik. I like the UI in TCP for controlling the 3 parameters. That's something I didn't know about. Thanks again.
Thank you so muck .I got this plugin for free and was baffled witht he tones. But I was trying set up like we set up drum sampler such as MT or SSD5. Thousands thanks!!!!
Hey thanks for this, I noticed that the trumpets didn't sound like trumpets so I opened BBCSO on that track and I see you've got Tuba selected instead of Trumpet, you may want to fix that, just thought I'd mention it.
Thanks for the video and the template! Really helpfull! Question, if I wanna use the different articulations for any of the instruments, should´t I need to create a different track for each articulation? (For example, 4 tracks for Violin 1: Long, Spicatto, Pizzicato, Tremolo)? Or is there a simpler way to change between articulations in the same track?
I downloaded the template and it is great, but the Spitfire FX window is too large for my screen. I tried reading through the manual for Spitfire and changing a bunch of settings in Reaper, but I couldn't get it small enough to view the bottom half of the plugin. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Jon , looking forward in using this template. I am just wondering do you or do you know of any videos on how to create a Spitfire Albion one template in Reaper. Thanks 🙏
Thanks for this template, I am using it and learning the ropes but I found a slight mistake in the Harp/celeste section, the labels are simply inverted.... I just had to edit them properly. This is great work! Thank you again! :)
I am using a Spitfire Strings Library. There are many articulations (Legato, Spicatto, Pizzacato, etc) for each instrument. Right now, when I change those articulations, it changes it for the entire track. Meaning, that if I want the violins to change their articulations at any point of the song, I have to create separate tracks for each articulation. This doesn't seem right. Do you know the best way to adjust the piano roll or notation or something so the Spitfire articulations can be specified for each note, and not the entire track?
They probably use Key Switches which change articulation with the lowest octave keys. If they do then you can also use the Reaticulate script that converts key switches to program changes and has a nice UI to make it easy. That said, a lot of composers, including Spitfire's team often use different instances for each articulation.
It might work as a starting point but I guess there's a lot more to add depending on how you use the features of Core version. Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for your reply . The core template issued by stitfire audio gave me many problems with the reaper program and layout didnt make any sense compared to your layout . Will let you know how your template works with core. Many thanks
The template I downloaded from the link above has the trumpets A3 not sounding as trumpets (I think it's actually sounding the tuba!). Easy enough to correct, and since no--one else has mentioned it perhaps it's just my setup. Worth checking though.
Thank you so much for this. Can you briefly explain how to make the keyswitching work? I couldn't figure out how to make it work without doing a separate track for each articulation. Thanks again!
in the plugin there's a little keyboard icon, try dragging it to the right and you can pick which octave the switch is on. Otherwise it will be the white keys on lowest octave. Erik's last video here was on a reaper script called Reaticulate which is an alternate way to use keyswitches
NICE! I noticed the template on spitfires website. It's a great template, but I think it could be improved with including print stems for all the sections as well as the individual instruments, just like the Logic-template. Nevertheless it's a great start and saves a lot of hassle setting it up
reaper makes it very easy to print stems, freeze, etc I think their template is designed to work with all versions so it has a ton of extra tracks that are useless with the Discover version.
Can you expand on how to print stems efficiently? Don't know if it's just my template setup, but I can't render my tracks offline, I have to record the tracks onto a stereo track stem I created and then export it. Otherwise I'll get some weird glitches. Probably due to my network setup with VEP But if there's an easier way, that takes advantages of Reapers audio/midi magic I would love to hear it, so I could save some time in my setup
must be the network thing, that's something I don't have any experience with. You could still render all at once, realtime through the render window. Or set the Folder tracks to "record output" and record into the project.
Is this the same as the official Spitfire template for Reaper? I just downloaded that one a few days ago, but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet. I built my own template for BBCSOD when I got my copy a few weeks ago. I went over how I built it in a video on my own channel. I built a separate track for each instrument and each articulation of the instrument, but I had no idea you could map the 3 expression and FX controls directly into the Reaper track! That's a very useful thing to know!
Theirs is 68 tracks, with each articulation as a separate instrument instead of key switches. Ours is 27 tracks and has track controls for the expression, dynamics and reverb.
hey, ive got a problem so i want to use different articulations for the same instrument but i cant figure out how to keep said articulation for a section of the track and then change to a different articulation, it just changes the articulation for the whole thing, could you please help me out? thanks!
@@TheREAPERBlog sorry, I meant that if I want to play Pizz. on one section of the track, but then I want to play spiccato later, the whole track will change to whatever arcticulation I pick, and i cant keep one section of the track with pizz and the other in spiccato, should I just make different tracks for each articulation? or is there a way to keep the articulation that I want for a specific part of the track?. -Thanks for answering anyways!
@@lonco2421 just add a key switch to the MIDI item and you can change play styles/articulations on the same track. It's also very common for composers to split each articulation on separate tracks. Makes the template larger though
You assign each to a MIDI continuous controller (CC) eg modulation wheel and can record the controller on the same MIDI track (or, of course, you can record it at the same time as the notes)
One thing to note: the "Expression" and "Dynamic" sliders seem to be nothing more than a gain slider for the Discover version. Discover version doesn't support multiple Dynamic layers, which means it's the same sample at 0 or 100. If someone finds evidence that contradicts this, I'd love to know. But after being driven crazy by the definition of these sliders, we ran some tests and realized that it only controls the gain.
its super hard to tell. I could have sword on the cello the dynamic slider makes it bow softer and the expression is simply turning it down. Maybe they just turn it down with different curves.
seriously awesome. thanks so much for the template. i even learned a couple of new reaper tricks once i used it. just a note, however. for some reason, when it loaded up it replaced the trumpets with the tuba patch. this may however have been because i didn't have the regular vst installed, only the vst3. reaper conveniently gave me the option to reload the vst3 versions instead (god i love this programme) and i was off to the races. but for the incorrect instrument on the trumpets track. just thought i'd let you know. anyway, thanks again!!! this is instantly usable for sketching ideas which is one of the biggest things to an on-the-go creator like me.
@@TheREAPERBlog oh, i did right away. simple fix. just threw me for a loop for a moment because the "trumpets" weren't playing in the expected range and sounded awful low, lol. thanks again for the awesome blog and tools :-)
For anyone considering this, the demo really doesn't do the library justice. You really need to use controls (expression, dynamics) to make the instruments sound natural. Amazing results can be achieved with just the Discovery version. BTW Not everyone buys it because they are impatient. Some of us believe in giving back to the musicians (who we are arguably putting out of business) and those who invest time & effort in bringing these capabilities to all of us.
Reading back the above sounds harsh - it's not meant as a criticism of those who can't afford it - indeed it's precisely for those people that Spitfire has made this generous offer.
Thank you very much for this template! I downloaded the Spitfire Audio VST last week and probably wouldn't have even used it if it wasn't for this template! I don't know anything about writing orchestral music but I gave it a go anyway! This is my very first attempt using your template: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dLV7abUz8D4.html
I really like how this guy has a single color on his reaper background, instead of alternating between brighter and darker for each bar. Could anyone tell me how to set it up like that?
