Unfortunately I missed your live showing this time around Simeon. So thanks for posting this up. I have damage 2 and I was really sceptical about this at first. But having looked at all the reviews I took the plunge. It’s awesome isn’t it. It works so well with Solstice and so many other libraries. It’s not genre specific either. Cheers 👍🏻
Totally agree. Many users fall into the trap of trying to make something that it isn't and missing the opportunities a library contains. I am a firm believer in having many colors, and different size brushes to fit the particular situation you will find yourself. Thanks so much for watching, and for your kind support.
That means a lot to me. My approach is never to try and hype something up, I just am sharing my in the moment reactions and all of you get to come along for the ride. I mentioned to someone who works with Spitfire that I look at these opportunities as a sacred trust that I highly value and I never want to compromise that. One of the other aspects is that I might only have a library for a couple of days before doing a live stream, so I know there is no way I can cover everything as I am trying to learn so many new things in a very short amount of time. You can always be sure that I will try and do my best and will always follow up when I find additional things I find might be helpful. Thanks so much for your very kind support and trust. All the best!
Thanks so much Olu, HAMMERS is a very deep collection and it was a lot of fun seeing where things would go. I appreciate the kind words and support. All the best.
My pleasure, it was so interesting to dive into this and I was spending most of the time in the shallow waters. There is so much potential to be found here, especially when combining multiple instances of the library. Thanks so much for watching. All the best.
Oh yeah! I see what you did there 🤣 It was an interesting journey as there were so many expectations for what it might be that we almost miss what it actually is. Thanks so much for the continued support and inspiration.
Simeon you are the best! I've been binge watching your videos all week haha. Big fan! Do you think that this library and other bigger ones in kontakt could run well on a 16GB MacBook Air M1? I'm hesitating if I should upgrade to 32GB or if my Mac is enough to compose with bigger libraries. Thank you :)
Song at 32:15 send shivers down my spine. Subscribed immediately after. You have an AMAZING voice. I think your demos of Spitfire products may be better than the ones Spitfire themselves do!
Welcome to the channel, it is a joy to know that you are enjoying the content. I go into these walkthroughs with some idea of what to expect but it is moments like these that sort of creep up on you 😳 Thanks for the kind words and support, I look forward to seeing you on stream or in future comments. All the best.
Glad to see you're doing this :) Hammers seems like a great library, and it's good to get the take of somebody who isn't a Spitfirer or an epic composer like Daniel James... Because I'm not an epic composer! Do you think hammers would be usable in a song context? Like a rock/pop/hip hop track? It seems like it's very verby and cinematic, but the mic positions could make that work. Also, John Bonham. :D
Hello Nic, That is what I think sets Hammers apart and what Charlie was trying to develop. He was looking for a library that could do cinematic but also feel comfortable in a more modern pop setting. It was interesting how it fit into the song I did near the end, totally unexpected how it was able to bring a fresh depth to it. Also, the mic positions are something that definitely needs to be explored to discover how to fit things into a particular arrangement. Since Charlie recorded these in his home space it captures what he loves about the drum sound he looks for when working on his personal projects. What would really help this library is that is does need a little work in helping you to better understand what the loops, warps , etc. are all about in a little more detail. Another thing is to create custom kits with multiple instances of Hammers. I was trying to think of a way to do this using UNIFY to create a more conventional type of kit that had Bass drums, Snares, Toms, and other percussion mapped across the keyboard and even allow you to do velocity layering and switching. The potential is there, it just might take a little (or a lot) of work to get there. I am also hoping that Charlie and Spitfire will take notice of the legitimate feedback from users and will possibly give us more detail and updates in the future. Thanks so much for watching. All the best.
Re the Surdo in 4 player mode. Could you tell me if the 4 highlighted keys produce different pitches. As far as I can tell they don't and this is putting me off buying as I would ideally like different pitches. Hope you can let me know....(The Spitfire Audio Hans Zimmer perc has surdo has only one pitch). Similarly in the tom section in 4 player mode could you tell me if they are actually different pitches? Thanks for a great review and product generally though!!
Brian, I need to do some further research on this. I think it has to do with the articulation on the hits as well as Left and Right handed playing. Thanks so much for watching and your kind support. Joyfully!
do you have to open a new hammers instrument track for each drum, or can you assign individual drum to tracks within one midi instrument? hope that makes sense...also, you remind me a lot of Avi Kaplan... 😊
Matthew as far as I know you need to have a separate instance of Hammers for each drum sound as the Spitfire Player is not multitimbral. I did see somewhere about using multiple MIDI channels but not sure how that was working. For now, I would say separate instances. I will have to check out Avi, that's cool, I just wish I had his hair! ;^)
@@PraiseTracks thanks for the reply Simeon. You have a great channel here. Demonstrating Spitfire though Cakewalk is exactly what I need to see!!! While I do use the step sequencer a lot with the ensembles patch, I cannot figure how to assign each drum in Ensembles to its own individual track. That would be awesome when using the step sequencer. It's slow going, but it's the method that really works for me. I will try loading up each instrument into its own track and and line up the step sequencers. It oughta work out. Thanks again!
It is my pleasure. I do not have any experience with HZ Percussion but be that as it may I would have to say no. The reason is a similar to what I talk about in the video, that each library has a unique voice, a character, a spirit embodying the vision of the artist behind the library. In this case Charlie Clouser and Hans Zimmer are two very different musicians and composers and that alone will bring two extremely different libraries. Other factors are the instruments they chose to sample and the elephant in the room, well is the room. Charlie recorded everything in his massive home studio with very unique glass and metal architecture, while Hans recorded his library at AIR Lyndhurst which has a characteristically wet and lush. So you would get very different results using these libraries and like any you have to match the library with the overall sound and tone of the arrangement you are working on. I hope that helps, Thanks so much for watching and for the kind support. All the best.
@@PraiseTracks The pro version of HZ does have more mike positions. The samples can be put on different keys and can stop each other. Hammers are more straight foreward to use.
Thanks for that. Yeah, Spitfire does love their mic positions 🤓 I do like the idea of remapping the keys, while I like the “brick” layout, there is a need for some way to map the drums to pad controllers as well. All the best.
