The sequel: • [Splatoon 2] Getting 9...
Oh boy, this one sure took a while to pull off. So first we ended up getting 69 specials, then 70, then 73, then 77. I honestly think 80 could be possible if everything was set up perfectly but I really don't see 99 being possible. Maybe some japanese people that are way better than us can pull it off lol. Either way, hope you guys enjoy the painful process of setting this up and finally getting a grand total of 77 specials. (Suggest what we should do next)

Doesn't Tenacity have a larger effect than Special Charge Up? Perhaps that might get you a couple more specials.

Then the timer runs out, and Judd randomly declares a winning team even though no one even went on the tower. And the 99 specials attempt would be in vain, thus they have to make it so that they have a four minute overtime.

Omg I don't have Splatoon 2 yet and I always thought the special counter counted how many kills you got using specials, not simply using specials, so when I started watching this video I kinda freaked out, until I noticed you were just using your special. Woah. Imagine if you had to actually splat people to make the counter go up

At least in Splatoon 1, abilities (except damage up, which would never lower a weapon's shots to kill) would offer diminishing returns, but they'd still have an effect. I'm not sure about Splatoon 2 but I'd assume it functions in a similar way. What if you have the enemies using Splashdown too? If they pop it whenever they get it, it'd mean 1. That you get a burst of turf to cover and 2. That they don't run out of ink as often. I also think you could extend overtime further on Splat Zones, by having one enemy and two teammates on the Zone. Enemy inks the Zone fully, teammates half-ink it before it can count down too far, wait until overtime is about to end, then enemy inks it fully again. Since it's impossible to stall forever, I don't think there would be a forced overtime limit on Splat Zones, meaning you could go a full 100 count with each point taking ~10-15 seconds. That's assuming Splat Zones overtime works the same in Splatoon 1 though.

Surely if you stopped the tower closer to you, the areospray on the tower could continue to ink? Also, if the person who gets on the tower keeps jumping in the way before he's needed, perhaps more ink could be spread by the death explosion?

the risk of that would be space dying to my splashdown. Also you mean the person on my team? If he gets killed a bunch I won't be the one getting any specials from it. Either way eventually they moved the tower a bit closer to the end so space could throw sprinklers above me (you can see that towards the end)

Yes, but if the person dies to the others, it makes a large burst of ink. That could give you a bit more ink every 10 seconds or so. Also, if the person who was at risk of dying to your special had 3 mains of bomb resistance they could stand a bit closer by utilising the resistance.

+WesleyMK you could hit 99 possible if you had all special charge up or as much as you can get, and had tenacity and had either your teammates constantly swimming offstage or one teammate only and see if that works better to get you not specials.

Now, get a lot of specials and 99 kills in the game. 2 people ink, and 2 people ink far away. When you use Splashdown, you get 2 kills. However, you'd probably only get around 60 specials, but 60x2=120, and therefore maxes out the counter at 99. Can you try this?

So, if you got all 8 people to do this, and you have tenacity and full special charge up... could your teammates purposely be constantly dieing so your tenacity is helping? That might be a few more specials, inkbrush could be a better weapon to do it with, if you want your fingers to die that is.

I don't wanna torture you with this again. But since the splashdown got a buff making it come to the ground faster, and since you probably have good SCU gear, why not try this again? I bet you'll be able to get to 99.

The only way I can think to get faster specials is perfect 2 mains/9 subs of special charge up, with tenacity which helps a lot. I think 99 is probably possible, it's just require a lot of work lol

We've tried another strategy that seems like it could work, but it just has to be very precise. Also tenacity could work as well (will be testing that out soon). For this attempt I ended up using 3 mains and 4 subs of special up

Couldn't it be done better if the tower was in a position during overtime where the 4th aerospray could continue spraying?

Maybe you can go even higher if you move the tower slower in overtime. Your opponent can use beacons on the tower to jump on it continuously or just go down and come back on it. And only then you use the 4 min trick, at the very end. Also someone suggested that your teammate could get killed. Maybe try that, because then tenacity would charge up your special even faster (1v4 is the best for it).

I've been thinking about the tenacity idea. And also i'm pretty sure that once overtime starts in tower control you have a set time of 4 minutes for it to end. We've tried having one person jump on and off the tower every 30 seconds in overtime but it still ended up being 4 minutes.

In clam blitz if one person holds a power clam you get 4 min overtime ( you can have your teammate throw ten clams at you and help get your special even faster

Just a quick thought: Would it be possible to use quick respawn + special saver + a special with very long duration that uses your special meter over time and then abusing the fact that you keep a part of the special after dying + that you respawn faster and faster cause no kills, to get even more specials? :o

Wouldn't Ink Armor be faster than Splashdown? Also, I think Tenacity gives you about 3 mains of Special Charge Up when it activates aside from giving you auto charge. Don't know if it still has that in Splatoon 2.
