Some extra things: don’t use thermal or main saver as thermal is too niche and just not worth the main slot while main saver doesn’t stack well at all (a main barely gives extra shots) Use some sub power up and ink recovery instead so you can combo your subs easier and please use object shredder on the Custom, it helps a lot with armor for your bursts which you use frequently
I got a lot to add. The Jet Squelcher is all about controlling space. You spread ink over a long range so no one can sneak up on you and your teammates can swim, if anyone rushes, you see them coming and just shoot them. Most people run away, which you think is bad, but you keep control of the space which can still be valuable, especially if you're on defense, a good Squelcher is probably the hardest anchor to sneak up on in flat stages. Most of your splats come at choke points where you know where they're going to be and they can't just run away, like other anchors, but Squelchers don't have to worry about charge time which is the main appeal. Vanilla Squelcher is fantastic with Splatzones, you can easily launch 10+ Missiles in 5 minutes, Custom is more versatile since Burst Bombs makes you a lot better at close range, probably the most versatile anchor in the game, and...yeah, sting ray is OP. Overall, Squelcher is not for racking up slats, but is a super nice balance of support and anchor play styles.
I want to add that due to the immediate long range it provides, Jet is more of an anti-backline than a true backline. Vanilla promotes a more midliney playstyle due to the mist's shorter range and the fact that you should definitely track squids with the Missiles to kill them, do not shoot them when you can't follow up with your main. Jet isn't really a backline ; it's an unique midline that has the ability to threaten other midlines and keeping them at a distance. Custom is obviously the best of the two for its ability to not die as easily as its vanilla counterpart. It's most known for its 180p Sting Ray but Ray is a special that's not meant to be spammed by nature, and the only reason Jet's is at 180p is because compared to the other viable Ray backlines it can't turf at all. Though people spam Ray with Jet to kill other backlines most often which is the right thing to do here. Jet is one of the only weapons where you can slap almost any gear abilities on it and it will still be a good gear set, you know, like those "Megalovania with swapped beats" videos. Non-MPU and full MPU sets are equally viable, depending on if you want to be more mobile and efficient or able to threaten backlines more efficiently. Only CJet is used so flat maps are your best bet. Jet is naturally designed to deter long ranges so in any map where backlines are prominent Jet will be good there too (except Moray). Overall Jet isn't just a "low-cost charger", it's a genuinely unique weapon in its own regard.
The Jet Squelcher is actually one of my favorite weapons. (I use the standard kit, too....) I love being able to out-range everything, and still be able to defend myself at close range. I love putting on some ink saver sub and spamming toxic mist. Toxic mist may not realistically do a ton... But people avoid it like the plague and that's what really matters. Tenta Missiles are not exactly my preferred special, but in this case I like having it just for the tracking. Being able to track the enemy team for a few seconds while having a long range weapon is pretty nice.
For me I main the Hydra Splatling... not the custom version like most people do. I like the idea of having a special that can save me if someone tries flanking and the auto Bombs are really good at baiting and overwhelming the opponents
0:50 man I must be that bad because I get killed by this thing every time I go up against one. Literally the only time I ever get the kill on a Jet Squelcher is when I sneak up on them even then it’s not 100% kill for me.
I'm a simple person, I see myself in the thumbnail and I hear 'Is this some kind of twisted joke?' I'm all for. Also, I love ranged weapons. Ngl, I personally use the original kit with toxic mist.
Same tbh I can basically hastle the enemy whole match in addition toxic mist makes kills easier as there slower and there revealed it’s like a better ink mine
I feel attacked. I only picked up the Jet Squelcher because I thought it looked like a Plasma Rifle from Halo. :( oh well. I suck fuck at actual combat anyways, so at least it's a good support weapon. good for laying down suppressive fire for your friends.
dont be discouraged, I've been getting lots of kills and also good plays with it, I'd suggest you go with heavy MPU or special charge up gear to either extend range or spam specials, you should average above 5 or 6 specials per match with 2 mains 4 subs. It is more of a support/backline weapon but it's a very annoying one to go against
@@Andres-pp5zw my setup is actually pretty heavy on special charge up just so that I can keep harassing with Tenta Missiles. Probably not the best special, but I like it.
this review was honestly really interesting as I’ve been waiting for it for a while tbh,,, as someone who has mained the vanilla jet squelcher for like two years or smth, i genuinely find it a very helpful weapon😭😭 the long rang is perfect and toxic mist works so well if you use it at the right time!!! i never see anyone using jet squelcher... like fr at least once a day I’ll at least find one other person using it and it’s so upsetting😭😭 bc idk it’s such a good weapon?? at least for me anyway😭😭
Some things I'd like to add... Curved Shots... I'm assuming you mean fall-off damage. Object Shreadder helps TEAR THROUGH Armor as Jet does less than 30 dmg. Thermal Ink in practice isn't that helpful. Very few instances come up where you are able to secure a kill becuase of Thermal Ink. Also keep in mind, your team can NOT see them. Only you can. The Burst Bomb-2 shot combo is a lot more deadly than Astro gives credit for. It leaves you at 99 health. Considering NO ONE is at full health in this game, you'll most likely get the kill. If you don't, the person is now 1 shot to EVERYTHING. Sub Power increases throw range for both Mist and Burst Bombs allowing them to assist the Jet in combating longer range targets.
About Thermal Ink, it only shows the enemy for you, and Ink Saver Main, while it can work, isn't the most optimal because it'll lead to bad ink management. Though, Sub Power Up is really good for bursts to help combo and kill easier.
*Sees Astro have uploaded a Squelcher vid* Me, who has been sometimes carried to Crown X Rank in Tower, Zones and even Clam Blitz by the Squelcher: This should be a fun video, I hope Astro mentions how by using 2 main 4 subs of MPU you can outrange a Heavy Splatling and how easy it is for the Squelcher to fit one of any of the unique gear abilities such as Thermal Ink, Respawn Punisher, Tenacity or Haunt :D Me after finishing the video, with the Squelcher trashtalked and used while jumping like a rabbit: Look how they massacred my boy :'(
After a long time using this weapon, I prefer the og Squelcher. The only reason I use it, is because I suck at Sting Ray, but with Tenta missiles, its easier, and Toxic Mist is good for Rainmaker and Tower Control. I dont play Clams.
stop this tentamissiles slander. But also I don't see why anyone would defend toxic mist. It's crowd control at best; your opponents seeing it and being scared by it is more valuable than any actual effect it's supposed to have. I still think the toxic mist + tentamissiles combo is better, bc tentamissiles is so good that I can accept having a near-useless sub. In Splatoon 3 I dropped it in favor of the Splattershot pro though. Thermal ink will always be indispensable
I love the jet squelchers. It is my favourite weapon with the dualie squelchers and the bamboozler. Fighting against a squelcher is really scary though.
I've begun to use the custom jet in Splatoon 1 and I'm shredding... despite being a kelp charger 'main'. Kraken really helps when those thots get in close
Jet could be a very powerful set, but both kits suffer from bad kit balancing; vanilla wants to be a zoner, and the kit is quite effectively that, but as you said it, the sub gets obsolete by just shooting, and its other properties are not strong enough to justify using it, which makes it so that you effectively don't have a sub; and custom has a bit of an identity crisis, it wants to be more combat oriented and more involved in team fights yet it got the special that requires to be as far from the fight as possible. If only they chose to update the kits, just switching the specials would suffice, but I think custom would benefit even more with other special
Sorry is there a translation error? Here where I live we call your definition of "men's rights activist" incels and actual men's rights activist for us means someone who is standing up for men and trying to fix some of the legal disadvantages that men have compared to women. Hope this clears things up!
I feel like you misrepresented the Jet squelcher It is a supportive weapon but in another way as it is great for controlling Space for both variants but the normal jet squelcher is better for covering Flanks as the toxic mist can be thrown to flankers to prevent them from running away and you can kill them easier and the toxic mist can allow you to run away easier when someone does sneak up on you I don't really have a lot of experincs with the custom because I just use the normal one
Wait thermal ink lets the whole team see them? I HAVE BEEN HELPING MY TEAMMATES THIS WHOLE TIME? well shit thats not how you play team based shooters, gonna have to rethink my build
Comment from a jet squelcher main, jet squelchers are weird weapons so not all might be able to do well but we jet squelcher do so please don’t make our weapon sound bad. Also the main weapon up and ink saver gear with jet squelcher carried me through tower control up to X rank. I still use it. I love your content I hope you make more. Thanks
hi, I started playing ranked about 2 months ago and picked up CJS about 1 month ago. I'm still in lower ranks (S+2-4) and I'm currently running a special charge up heavy gear (2 mains 4 subs) to help me spam specials, do you feel this is a valid option too?
Him is dissing my main me BRo i team wipe with that god close far and medium range and i carry hard most games im in my team ends up spawn holding other teams
*sigh* Ah yes, killing splooshes up close and breaking 30 kills on rainmaker. Toxic mist and burst bombs are great for up close and Tenta Missiles and stingray to pressure. End jet squelcher discrimination.
I really REALLY like the delivery in this video, and in general your voice overs and writing have gotten much better and more impacting. This video had me giggling pretty much the entire time, great job! Here's an unsolicited tip: I don't often play squelcher, but when in a support position, if you spot an enemy fleeing from a teammate, try to cover the area in front of them, but not fully. The ink that falls to the ground from the Squelcher stream has a more rain-like pattern when you're not actually aiming at the ground, and swinging your reticle above the ground in front of the fleeing enemy makes their escape an RNG nightmare. (but like at that point if they're in range why not just shoot th) I enjoy watching people suffer ok?
I believe the word you were looking for was cover fire back at the beginning. (Aka my excuse for not being able to aim). Loved the video! Also, as one of the seven jet mains, this was painfully true.
I like the jet a lot... I don't like how the luna walks right in front of me to say, "Don't worry. I'll snipe them for you." WHY DOES EVERYONE STAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME ALL THE TIME? T_T
Who here thinks this can prove the Custom Jet Squelcher is seriously overrated? Read this like a detective would: I used to love the Custom Jet Squelcher in Splatoon 1, but in Splatoon 2 now I hate it. And just the fact that they gave it STING RAY says it all. I haven't used the Custom Jet Squelcher since December 6, 2017. It is COMPLETELY outclassed by Heavy Splatling. If there was a way to hack so you could change the sub or the special, I'd TOTALLY use it. The Custom Jet Squelcher needs to be nerfed to 210 points to charge Sting Ray and in many other ways but I'm not gonna show them or Nintendo might use use them in such a way that I may have to dethrone a few of my favorite weapons. Seriously. Sting Ray is NOT the right special for Custom Jet Squelcher. If Vanilla Jet Squelcher were the star pitcher on the baseball team, Custom Jet would be the loser benchwarmer. And even Vanilla Jet has the trash Toxic Mist. If a Custom Jet Squelcher with Inkjet was the goalie who intercepted shots from even the best shooters and a Custom Jet Squelcher with Booyah Bomb was the striker who was extremely good at scoring against even the best goalies, the Custom Jet Squelcher with Sting Ray would be the backup something and Custom Jet Squelchers with the other specials would be the other roles on their soccer team. If an L-3 Nozzlenose D with Burst Bomb and Sting Ray was the halfback who could tackle runners left and right, make touchdowns in 9.4248 seconds, and make it so his team never missed a first down, the Custom Jet Squelcher with Burst Bomb and Sting Ray would be the loser water boy. Basically put, the Custom Jet Squelcher would be great if it had any special BESIDES Sting Ray. Maybe I need to play Custom Jet Squelcher like it has a better special.
as a squelcher main, the weapon is absolutely amazing on tower control. the thing nobody realizes about squelcher is that unlike other backliners, since start-up is instant and there's no charge, you actually have the potential to hide in a tiny dot of ink on your sniping point, and then wait for someone to get close before revealing. this is way more effective and reliable than similar up-close shark strategies that things like the Carbon Roller use, because after you get those first two hits in you just need to track for another half second to get the kill.
