Funfact (aka an excuse to lore dump): Pearl's last name was actually already known before the dlc. It just never got an official translation (as far as I remember) because it was in one of those fancy magazines we'll never get overseas. I think it was stated in an interview with her where she showed the readers around her giant mansion. There also is a manga about Marina's relationship to Pearl drawn by Marina (in-unsiverse). It's referencing shōjo mangas and is heavily implying that she has feelings for Pearl. And honestly, they're 100% a thing, Nintendo's just too scared to admit it
well there was that line from marina i got today saying "seriously, acht? you're hitting on pearl in front of...." she doesn't finish but i don't think she was referring to me there
@@Octokito either that or it implies that we are still send people to space maybe a space station stage for multiplayer perhaps. we already have marlin airport.
The music naming scheme makes sense with the whole order theme (I think) Music is multiple parts coming together and working in sync to create something, and the Jelletons are all drones working towards a new world order Also how fitting that the enemy that charges up a dash attack is called "Accelerando"
when jay said the palette looked like a soundboard in the first episode i was practically on the edge of my seat waiting for him to discover that the chips also made noise like a synth pad
52:56 Ian BGM is the name of the ~mysterious idol~ who collaborated with the Squid Sisters on Liquid Sunshine! Coincidentally, Big Betrayal by Deep Cut came out some time later with both Shiver and Frye being very upset at Big Man. Strange, since the two definitely don't have any relation. [large red sign that says 'laugh' lights up]
Ian BGM is the name Big Man used for the collab songs he made with the squid sisters. He was later found out by shiver and fry, and they made the song Big Betrayal.
Yeah, jay seems to not follow Splatoon's worldbuilding lore, which a lot of it have to do with music, Acht is a Splatoon 2 musician which first appeared in Octo Expansion as Dedf1sh, you can tell quite fast who follows that lore from who recognizes her
And the sheer amount of visualizers everywhere is STUNNING. Marina sure has good design taste! (fun fact about the foyer after clearing: at the part where the room goes dark and the giant orb is in the middle, flying through it plays short order)
@cadence_2463 I just used the Aerospray for the first time trying to grind licenses... And I liked it better than my main ☠️ Please squid gods dont let me be the aerospray-soul-guy
I'm not a Splatoon guy but I find the Splatoon lore interesting and the story campaign's fun so I find it hilarious that agent 4 has been just reduced to the new one even though they have been a agent for a good amount of time truly the most neglected agent at this point I'm convinced that they've became just clean up crew and is so done with not being invited to the secret missions
Tbf, other than this dlc there wasn't a chance for agent 4 to appear, they were the character you play as in splatoon 2, agent 8 is the character in OE, in splatoon 3 story mode I don't think it would fit having them there unless you change a lot of things so they need to be there, and in SO (side order) there was an opportunity for agent 4 to be there, tbh I expected them to appear in the dlc just how agent 3 (now captain) appeared in OE Now that I think about it, agent 4 is the most hyped up splatoon character that literally hadn't had an opportunity to be in any place yet, splatoon 4 maybe?
I don’t know why Google gave you that result when you asked what Houzuki means. Houzuki is “pygmy squid” in Japanese, and is indeed Pearl’s surname. Hers and Marina’s surnames have been known for a while, but were only published in Corocoro magazine in Japan before this I think.
I actually love marinas palette. I got so so far and ended up dying to a boss but there’s a color chip that basically turns it into undercover brella and then I got so many damage increases and three range increases 😭😭 slayage
Bro has the worst tunnel vision to ever exist ever, big letters on the center of the screen saying the objective, just ignores it completely. The charger must be the bane of his existence.
Honestly the game is really fun when i'm playing it, a bit repetitive watching other people playing it, but i stayed for just hearing your commentary bcoz it's the most entertaining i've seen so far. Thanks jay. Edit: Ooh also, that layering rotator boss has one of, if not, the best sound design on any splatoon game ever. The ambience, sound effects, music, its terrorizing and intimidating.
"Houzuki" is a leftover of a pun lost in translation. Pearl's Japanese name is "Houzuke Hime." "Houzuki" comes from "daio houzuki ika (colossal squid) and "Hime" comes from "hime ika" (northern pygmy squid). So not only was Pearl's Octo expansion outfit based on Biggie Smalls, but so is her name.
I think their name is pronounced "Aht", like the word "Yacht" but without the y. Also, a helpful tip: Brella is very good for this dlc, and so is ultra stamp, booyah bomb, and triple inkstrike. Ink mine is probably the best sub for it, too, and curling bomb is probably the worst.
Here is a challenge idea Go into the Tower of order without getting kicked out which means no dying no nothing just complete and other chaos of not getting completely killed
I've beat it with Bella, Stringer, and now Slosher. The more I watch streamers and the like play this, the more I realize... I'm evidently better at Splatoon than I thought.
