Great question! We’ve found in our experience that it’s much easier to maneuver splice trays within fiber optic hardware when the fiber buffer tubes are contained to one side of the tray. There are also some space-space savings benefits within the hardware because you do not have buffer tubes coming out of both sides of the tray.

For an instructional video, I'd expect that it would have looked neater after the splicing.

Remember, the buffer tubes must maintain a minimum bend radius before entering or after exiting the splice tray. Maintaining that bend radius takes up room in the hardware - contain the buffer tubes to one side and you’ve got more room on the other! In addition, with the specific tray we’re dealing with in this video, bringing the buffer tubes in on the same side allows for easier routing of the fibers with in the tray and therefore better bend radius control of the fibers.

Hi there! Fusion splicer operation will vary based on what manufacturer's splicer you are using. We do offer videos on how to operate Corning fusion splicers on corning.com / cablesystems under Technical Support. Thank you!

You skipped over the actual splice (fusion splicer opeation) Great personality and very detailed but, you need to slow down for those that have never done this before.
