this sounds like a song for a character who’s usually very comforting and caring about others (or tries to be) and has somehow been mind controlled to be an antagonist. They still have that caring and comforting side of them present and noticeable. This song’s pretty creepy (which isn’t a bad thing) but as you get used to the sounds, it starts to feel benevolent, while still mysterious and dangerous. Long story short i love your music 💖

I know other people often go into the direction of "it's about someone who is nice most of the time but they really are bad etc etc" but I think it might be something else. this isn't a complete theory but I just wanted to share some thoughts that I had and you can comment on it any feedback so I can edit it. oh and GHOST keep up the great songwriting! (theory below) I think it's about a person who is a somewhat normal and caring person but had something horrible happen to them (or did something horrible), which resulted in them feeling inhuman (hence the machinery that also references the contraption of Malice, which in turn says that this person feels like they are evil and inhuman thing because of what they might have done) and the tar that covers them representing the horrible thing and the PTSD (or guilt) from it, as tar is sticky and really hard to escape from. another supporting fact could be that they feel that whatever they experienced (or did) makes them a monster, inhuman and evil, something not capable of empathy. adding on to that, the person's eyes look dead and cold, and appear to have no arms or hands, implying that the person believes that they lack any control over their life anymore. and the music itself seems almost defeated near the end (about 1:50 and later) like they are being tortured by flashbacks or memories of the horrible event. another thing about the music is that it's irregular and has a defeated/distressed or corrupted feeling to it. (and try to imagine this music as a representation of a person life, or at least a part of it) but the thing about that choice is that I think the song used to sound beautiful and soft but was corrupted by something horrible, say a horrible event that happened to the person that this song it's representing.

uGH omg i've been itching to say that this is absolutely beautiful. it has an rpg vibe to it. the song also gives a creepy vibe, but it also gives a sense of certainty that the song won't scare you or anything. it's subtle in a way that it's haunting yet compelling to listen to. ALSO THAT ART???? UHHMMM HELLO IT'S ABSOLUTELY STELLAR TOO OMG

When you stumble into Ghost's stuff and almost all of it sets off your odd disassociation self-puppeteer out of body experience things and then you come to this and get a round of dysphoria... and yet you still love it to its core. I love your work Ghost, keep going.

I love how atmospheric it is

I have a Super Deep theory about what this is about and it's still not finished bc I'm looking for more clues but I think I got it from the style of the music and some hints in the art and the name of the song >:v) EDIT: Here's the theory: The artwork is reminiscent to that of religious pieces in that we have a halo with the typical lines representing rays of light, followed by the character in robes. The wings are also rather angelic, obviously. It's clear that this person is looked up to. The split comes when we have the tainted, tar-like substance covering their other half to express that the character in the artwork is not holy, and definitely not a saint. Tar is, typically, unpleasant, and it appears as though it's covering them in a way they are not happy with-- yet they still don't pay it any mind. The mechanical parts are, as prior mentioned, similar to the story of Serial Contraption of Malice. The premise of that song is that there is a machine who views themselves as human, and knows there's something different between them and normal people. Unsure of this split, they proceed to dissect humans in order to figure out what's different. Machines are, themselves, non-human; they are simple in that they can take an input and give an output, and mechanical parts tend to control one's actions. In the song Serial Contraption of Malice, additionally, the machine yearns to become human, or "normal." It's probably not unsafe to say that the figure in the artwork feels as if they are mechanical in their actions, and feels inhuman, or that they have something else that separates them from others. On top of this, there are, clearly, human parts, so there's always the possibility that they also feel as though they are controlled by machines. That being said, we now have the potential meaning of the song: The "idol" in the artwork is praised and viewed in a saint-like manner, yet they have a tarnished, flawed side to them which they dislike and have to deal with. They also feel somewhere between machine-like and inhuman. Misc other possibilities: - Devoid of color. Something uninteresting/dull. Perhaps that's only to sell the monochrome half-and-half of "saint-like vs deeply flawed" that the artwork conveys. - They seem to be held up/assisted in standing by the machine, seen on the character's right side (left side of the artwork). Couple ideas what this means if anything, but nothing conclusive. - Three pairs of wings. That's a lotta wings. Not sure what it could mean yet, but it's probably just an aesthetic choice. It's super aesthetic my guy. - Their arms don't exist. I'm pretty sure this's something important, but I'm not sure what it means. - Their eyes are full-black without pupils or sclera or an iris or anything, much like a Tiefling's from Dungeons and Dragons. This might mean something, but it's probably to push the feeling of something emotionless, lifeless, or inhuman. Leaning towards the latter two rather than the first.

Take a minute to notice that there is almost no background and everything is a part of that girl

This is easily one of your best instrumental pieces. The oppressive atmosphere is so strange and unique, and then the almost sad, yet still somewhat happy piano paired with the strange background noises... Hhhh its so good

This looks like the "messiah" of a human experimentation lab, where the suffering is endless but this one subject who came out "correct" bring light and hope to everyone around. One day something goes horribly wrong and the researchers all go missing, all the subjects follow this messiah who is nearly silent and unable to move, yet is the one who will lead them. But, without the regular checkups from the doctors, nearly all the subjects die and the messiah, now covered in this strange oil freezes, as if they were in a deep coma. As split idol comes around, the place is in ruins. Blood and other traces of the horrible past still remain, alongside a few subjects and a single unknowing soul that stumbled upon these cursed grounds. Finding snippets of documents and the occasional working piece of equipment, this brave explorer finds one of the very few survivors (child from that videos image), and learns even more of the dark past. Believing that this person could truly set them free, the subject leads the explorer to the messiah, upon witch the unfortunate explorer finds a child hooked up to wires and machines, seemingly dead. But they aren't... their body just doesn't want to work anymore... The last thing our explorer hears before his mind goes blank is a whisper that says "I'm sorry for this, but please, we just want to be free..." (I would probably intersect all the instrumentals if I tried hard enough, but this is already a long comment)

At 3am you can find me listening to this while having a mental breakdown. I love it. Thank you for creating this masterpiece!

This song and the exquisite artwork helped me through a horrible time life. It explained how I felt with no need for words, and I played this song on repeat as I drew my own expressive artwork which I suspect was inspired by this pictures color pallets. Thank you, GHOST.

May I say that I love the transitioning of the emotion and tone of the tone it is? It’s so seamless and flawless its absolutely amazing. Not to mention the metallic noises to match with the mechanical image of this song is just aesthetically pleasing to me. Last but not least, even though this doesn’t have any words to it you can still almost feel a story in the instrumental itself, (this is my opinion, but none the less still praise) I love how in doing so it leaves the listeners imagination to flow so they can imagine what’s happening. Over all I think this is one of your many great works Ghost, and I’m extremely impressed how far you have come in your music making career. I hope you keep up the great work!

I've been inspired an original character's story with this music. It's the story of an omniscient godlike being who created a new species on Earth to appease the troubled mind of humans, by the harmonic sound their golden body make. But alas, some members of the golden species was corrupted by some evil-minded humans and their aura made tormenting sounds. Their power made for good was now destructive and The Creator gazed in terror at his poor creation they made with good intentions. They now lives in fear and shame in a dark place, away from the monsters that were born from their hand, who now worship them as a God of Destruction.

I love this! It's such beautifully haunting song.

My favorite song by you. Sounds like what I’d imagine meeting “God” would be like. Is it comforting? Is it foreboding? Either way it is all powerful and very ,very alien. As well as that, for some reason this makes me think of what my best friend goes through when they’re in their manic episodes feeling as though they ARE god. There’s an undertone at certain parts of the song that makes me think of instability and chaos, because applying a very alien song to a PERSON makes me think of themes of isolation and disconnect from people or their surroundings. Makes me wonder as I look through the theories here if that could be the meaning behind this song (if there’s any at all). But anyway, I’m rambling at this point. It’s very inspirational when I’m making art as well as writing. So thanks for that!
