I know what looks better in the hands of an expert. And by the way that’s you Wooly that is the double edge axe it suits you sir . But really you’re the person swing the axes and that’s down to the individual Using them Only they know . I love watching this Wooly your the star not the axe 👍and thank you from me mate 🙏🤝❤️

I'd pick a 3 to 3¼ lb double bit on a 32in handle over any other axe or maul any day of the week lol. God bless brother

I know this has nothing to do with choosing between a maul or an axe, but I just love your splitting setup.

Double bit axes are not good for splitting. The main reason is you can't flip them over with the log attached and hit them upside down on another log to drive it through. Needless to say you can split with anything. I believe the original double headed axes had one edge for felling and one for limbing but I am not 100% sure.

As far as I know one side is blunter and wider than the other. One side for chopping down trees the other for work closer to the ground, I've found that the wider bit can be good for splitting wood, and they are cool ! Lol thanks for the comment

I like a Fiskars axe/maul because of the overall weight. But nothing beats a good ol 3.2 double bit👍🏻

If my 4 pound double bit starts to get stuck I take and prop the logs against another log so they're tilted at about 45 degrees away from me and strike them on the corner instead of the end. The blade sinks in a good distance and starts a crack before the tough wood can slow the axe too much. I like that tire idea.

That's a good idea, the tyre works great , especially on smaller stuff

Isn't the double bit made for chopping down big trees? once one side gets dull you use the other side?
@WoolysWorld
@WoolysWorld 3 года назад
sometimes, or one side is fatter and more chiseled for grubbing out roots

A maul takes more energy..however they have their place for sure .
@WoolysWorld

they sure do

It all boils down to right tool for the right job and individual preference, for grainy wood i prefer a maul to get that certain crack and pop. If the wood is already split into 2 pieces i like to finish with the axe 🪓

every time you sharpen the splitting axe, the angle of the edge gets bigger, as the more you take off of it the further up the blade you go and it widens out fast....might help to grind the sides down a bit as you've sharpened it a ton of times.

good plan
