But dad, how are you able to resist hat little bitty squeal and then that tail going crazy?! I think there might be a little squirrel hiding behind that tree…🌸🐶🐶🌸💕
This is hilarious! I just rescued a very tiny puppy from the side of the road. Turns out she's a Cairn. Trying to get myself up to speed on the breed. Seems it's going to be a long, fun ride. At barely 2 months she's already a character. Your kids are adorable!
Such bonnie wee dogs; yours are adorable and so typical. My wee Cairn, Midge, is a constant source of entertainment as she’s cheeky, funny, and altogether a bossy little rascal. You are absolute right about the training........a firm but kind hand will yield results! Thanks for this great video!
My wife and I have been laughing at this one all weekend. It actually might have been the deciding factor in us choosing to go with this breed for ourselves.
I'm excited for you! Be patient--Cairns can be stubborn but they are smart little cookies so just lay out the law from day one and they'll eventually come around. Fair warning they like to be in control--takes a strong persistent human to train one right. Have fun, I envy you--Cairn pups are a hoot!
I've watched mine catch a squirrel and a bluejay that was harassing her right out of the air. I've received letters asking to fight her, but never have. I was told that she can kill anything one and a half times her weight. They are great
My older Westie, aged 3, was out in the back yard her first winter when a squirrel fell out of the tree at her feet on an icy morning. She often sits out there waiting for a repeat. The Westies have no love for squirrels and will kill any that they catch.
I'd just slap my hands together (that breaks the thought) and immediately calling them by name, I'd say, "let's go!" And they would follow. Your dogs are so cute! I really like those looks!
And for 'yappers,' yours or mine, to 'first acknowledge what they are showing you,' "good thing, now let's go," usually settles that! I am amazed at how much a dog can really understand! More often it's not a lack of understanding on the dogs part, it's "I don't want to." :-) And yes, I find that funny. I'd say that a dog rapidly comes to the age of about a 3 or 4 year old toddler. After that, they just get better skilled in doing what they were built to do. ... If a child never came to a self consciousness (me in the mirror!) by the time they reached 7/8 years of age, we would never be able to catch them! :-)
As for your puppies, I'd sure like to have a pair of them. They are so awesome! I lost my "little man" about a month ago. He was 12 1/2 years old. Had him since he was 8 weeks old. He was 1/2 Shih tzu and 1/2 Yorkie and I think he got the better traits of both. Yours look just like him (Charlie topped out at 15 pounds) but mine had hair, not fur, and was a bit more delicate than yours. The best best to you and yours.
They are so vocal it's a pure joy to have one. I've had two and will never have a different breed now. Completely different to other breeds and the ultimate terrier
It appears that fortunately your yard is not bordered by hedges or rose thorn bushes. My cairn would go bounding after squirrels and rabbits into said thorn bushes and there would be a nasty burr removal session afterwards. This would require use of a sock around the beak to stop snapping as burrs were removed. Your girls are just adorable and giving you the pouting look - hilarious!
Our cairn once chased a cat out from under our scooter (it had a cover on it)... Now every time we go outside she has to check for cats. I even take the cover off to show her nothing's there but she is convinced the cats are hiding somewhere unseen. But it gets better: when we go out on walks and we come across other scooters or motorcycles with covers on them, guess what happens...
Ah, so nice to see someone else have to suffer the cute hell that is a spoiled cairn. Some days I wish I hadn't babied, even though she was so tiny and abandoned when I got her. Others, it's too damn cute.
I usually throw a stone or stick for my Cairn. So on the on very rare occasion there aren't a handful of squirrels to chase he wont know the difference.
