It's not yet clear if he knew about solus back then, evidence points out that solus came back after Lahabrea blew it in ARF, as such perhaps he didn't know yet
@@PumpkinLicorice Yeah. It was mentioned somewhere (i forget where exactly, might have been the theater company in the Ivalice quests) that one of Varis' first acts as emperor was to outlaw theater outside of a few propaganda plays. The theater company mentions that Solus, by contrast, was a big patron of theater (no surprise now, given his dramatic personality) and even gave them that airship to travel through the empire for performances more easily
It also adds to why Solus let Nael commence with Project Meteor. It wasn't that Solus was going senile like what Gaius thought. He knew it was a chance to start another Calamity. It makes you wonder what else is there. For all it seems, only Solus, Elidibus, and Varis know everything.
And so the flood of light begins at our hands... and for what purpose? Only death for the people awaits us on that path. We would be no better than the sowers of chaos. An endless hunt
I'm hoping that FFXIV takes some major queues from FFXII. Stormblood left a bitter taste in my mouth because it wrapped up the liberation stories far too smoothly - and even after it being so damn obvious that the Emperor was deliberately showing restraint by not launching a counterattack the leaders of Eorzea and their loyal lackeys are complete idiots. They should have guessed at Ascian meddling years ago - especially when the Warrior of Light saw Gaius argue with Lahabrea. Instead, they willingly allow themselves to be manipulated into going to war with Garlemald even though Garlemald has ceased to be the aggressor ever since Gaius was defeated.
Indeed, knowing now that the empire is nothing but slaves to ascians and made for the purpose of causing chaos and dying...it really let's you know why Varis is the way he is. He is Dr Manhattan as he is a puppet like everyone else..only he can see the strings but still can not change the course
YASSSS!, that sassy bitch is what we need right now. And the fact we dont even know who he truly is; is what gets me. I need answers damn it and need more solus lol
Considering this game is all about FF references at points now, I think that was kind of the point. Especially with that whole can't die thing no matter how many times someone "kills" him, as seen with Varis shooting him.
For sure. My prediction is that he'll have Varis killed in 4.5 for getting too uppity and defiant, leaving Elidibus-as-Zenos as Solus' new figurehead on the throne, and setting up a civil war in Garlemald for 5.0
@@BroadwayRonMexico Honestly I feel like we haven't had enough Varis yet for him to not be a huge part of 5.0. Maybe he's even the Golbez to Solus's Zemus...
@@EikoHarvey Wouldnt be the first time they killed a character off before getting to know them. Heck, they originally killed Solus himself before even showing him on screen (this here may or may not have been planned)
@@BroadwayRonMexico Well before HW was revealed their was a leak that predicted a few expansions, and they were right about both HW and SB so far as to say HW would add flying and SB would add diving. The same one predicts 5.X to be about Ilsabard with a Roman motif, all that leads me to believe that a lot of things have been planned very far ahead.
You are not wrong, I am curious to find out who Solus really is. I have a feeling it is the Ascian Emmit Selch but hopefully we get the answer in Shadow Bringers
3:07 Lahabrea's crowning moment of Idiocy? Which one are you thinking of Solus? Giving Gaius the Ultima Weapon and displaying how destructive Ultima really is? or trying to manipulate a holy church and then later getting wrecked by The Holy See in Primal Form? I think it's the Heavensward part is where his crowning act of idiocy really lied on..
I am more curious to find out who he really is, I have a theory its the ascian known as Emmit Selch but of course I cant say for certain. This part really was a game changer
Didnt we learn that the Empire cloned the body of the founding father? He likely just went into another body, then teleported back , hence it being a "waste of his time and energy"
not quite! Zenos is a Resonant, which is basically the Echo. In the 2.3(2.2?) Leviathan questline we learn that if someone with the Echo dies they have the capacity to transfer their "soul" to another body. I don't know if it's automatic or something only people with a super duper strong echo can do but once Zenos cut his head off his soul transfered to one of the nearby soldiers. Then Elidibus was able to take over Zenos' soulless corpse with ease.
@@heyNoraNora I doubt it's something every Echo user can use, if only because different people show different subsets of Echo powers. Encyclopedia Eorzea confirms that Arbert and Warriors of Darkness used it to jump ship, but we haven't seen any sign of Ysale doing anything of the sort, for example, despite the end of Heavensward showing her to have still been around. Zenos's Resonant is, by his claim, the Echo at full power, so it would make sense for him to be capable of bodyjacking even without Solus factoring in.
Zenos was able to do it because he has the fake echo. Now that we know more about the Ascians from Shadowbringers, it's safe to say that Ascian blood isnt something Varis and Zenos would have. They're full-blooded Garlean because Emet-Selch's vessel (the "real" Solus) is a Garlean who existed before becoming an Ascian According to the wiki, the true Solus became the Ascian's vessel at some point between becoming a legatus (at age 24) and becoming emperor
"I can easily destroy the Eikon slayer" -Elidibus/fake Zenos 2018. These Ascians gotta be one of the most arrogant yet imbecile faction in FFXIV. The WoL destroyed Zenos while fused with Shinryu, fought Omega( although secretly to most of the realm and Omega is the strongest enemy the WoL would ever face, that includes Zodiark) yet the ascian really thinks he's taking on the WoL lmao...these guys. This is the same arrogance Lahabrea showed up in heavensward and look how King Thordan owned that ass. At this point in time the ascians should fear the WoL or do some intelligent plan to somehow depower him.
Yes and no. While it's true that the full might of Garlemard or at least one of its 14 legions should be more than enough to kill the WoL. As we know the WoL is blessed with a special power which is the echo, a power that presents itself in many "sub-powers" to say but for some reason (being the player) the WoL is stronger with it. The same reason the WoL easily lost to Zenos despite fighting tough enemies such as Nael, Gaius, Ultima weapon, thordan etc... is purely because of the plot, they need to make the current threat, threatening and relevant duh. If the game was purely about facts, logic and stuff, the WoL would've stomped Zenos in a 1 v 1 the very same moment Zenos showed up in Ala Migho. - Zenos is not holding back at the time of the final battle and while it's true if Zenos would have used the full might of the legion he was commaning to, the WoL would've perished because numbers are everything. Nevertheless the game has always put the WoL's power exceeding in a 1 v 1 battles or similar not having him going all out against thousands of opponents like Hulk or Supes would. - In any instance, the WoL is a plot device and this is why I like Omega a lot as a boss because it's aware enough to know the WoL magical powers are pure BS and plot and hence it began the whole campaing of adding those magical powers into Omega's programming. Zenos doesn't have that kind of power and that's why I said in my original post, the ascians should find a way to depower the WOL, like to straight out cut his connection to the echo or something but, by this point they should fear the guy that has beaten 3 commanders of their legions, countless of primals and some ascians...like hello?
" I can destroy eikon Slayer as easy as one swat a fly". In your dream elidibus, come here and I will kick your ass and send you back to your zodiark papa side .
So between The Scions having their souls torn from their bodies, Azys Lla and Dalamud having caused the Burn, Zenos being in an Elezen body, and Solus being an Ascian, how ABSOLUTELY FUCKED do you think we are for 4.5 and 5.0?
The reveal with Solus actually shocked me quite a lot, especially because of how much it changes everything in the story, and means that 5.0 is likely going to go in a really interesting direction, especially because it opens up the doors to otherwise unthinkable things like siding with Varis
Yes indeed, this changed literally everything. We went from the empire being these mean empire types who only care to conquer and then we find out that even the emperor himself is a slave; literally being told "You do not make judgments - You administer them"....Like damn, Varis is Dr Manhatten in the sense he is a puppet, but one that can see the strings but do nothing about it
Solus is satisfied with his handiwork....paltry in comparison to allag.... Could be referring to the Empire or what he's been upto in the first with Vauthry/Innocence
What I want to know is, who is the ascian posing as Solus? I figured it is Emmit Selch as we have not seen him but we do know he another ascian out there
Spoilers!! Fake Ascian Zenos. Real Zenos died and an ascian named Elidibus took his body to continue a gesture to make Zenos seem like he was still alive. And by 'take this face': Ascians can take over corpses of a dead person as not to reveal themselves.
I hope so, that would be fucking epic. Especially since we find out he's not really a bad guy just to be a bad guy; rather a man forced to play politician to keep his people alive. I have a greater respect for the guy now
One thing I don't understand is why Elidibus calls Varis 'father'.. Varis knows that it's just Elidibus in Zenos' body because Elidibus had physically shown him...So I don't understand why he addresses Varis in that way :/
Just look at the text. It is said as a mocking, albeit slightly threatening reminder of his place. The whole tone of the cutscene is to show that despite our initial assumption that the leader of the empire is a big bad, he's essentially just a puppet on the string of the Ascians. "I take my leave... 'father'." - Elidibus, Ascian Emissary and puppeteer of Zenos body, tired of the 'charade' and of the delays and deliberation.
@@RopeDrink Exactly and when you think about it, Varis is Dr Manhattan in this sense. He is a puppet but one that can see the strings but has no control to change things.Once I made this connection, Varis as a character become so much more than a generic evil emperor who only wants to take things over just because he can
I think that while his english voice sounds more villain-like, the japanese one is also good because it fits with his "bored and sarcastic" emotion that he has Id say they are on par with each other
