Of all the unexpected things, the big bad of the game just sauntering up to us and going "can I tag along with you and see if you're worth joining forces with?" was not among the things I expected not to expect.
i still imagine him just taking one look at our soul and going "oh here we fucking go again, cant i be spared the insuferable antics of these azems ONCE"
This scene takes on new context when you realize that Emet Selch recognizes Azem immediately and is annoyed but also excited to see his old friend again. The whole cooperation bit is just an excuse to hang out with you!
One of the things I found great about Emet-Selch is that from the moment he walks up to you, you're not sure if he's pulling your leg or not. After all, your only experience with the Ascians up to now has been one of hostility and them wanting to destroy you. And that kept nagging at the back of my head the entire time he was with us, even after he saved Y'shtola. "Is this a long con?" "Is this a mastermind of deception at work?" "Are his laments truly just that: Laments?" Then you learn that he truly wanted you to be 'worthy'. That all his interactions were genuine. That he spoke from the heart. That his grief was real. He was already a fantastic character before that was made clear. Post-realization he's THE best character in the entire game.
It was at this cutscene that the Ascian theme started giving me chills. He had presence and charisma and it was kind of at that point what Ascians were capable of REALLY sank in. And that sass.
I think it's the VA, animators, and writers all together that make him such a great villain. His personality reminds me of The Joker from Batman, but backstory and motivation is a whole other direction with more sanity and clarity.
Man....what a ride its been with this guy. If you told me how bad he'd make my heart ache when he first popped up at the end of Stormblood I'd have laughed you off the planet.
I remember being so confused when my friend told me Emet-selch was one of his favorite characters when I saw him on Stormblood for the first time lol I'm now playing through Endwalker and let's just say... it hits different :')
Vague 6.0 spoilers - From the start I thought it was all an act, and excuse to sabotage your efforts without having to worry about not being seen in the area. But then he gives you a respectful farewell..... he saves you..... and even responds when you call to him, which was a HUGE thrill to see. It wasn't until the NEXT expansion we found out he was actually being a bit truthful.. that he really wanted to find common ground so everyone could be happy. What a fantastic villain he became.
3:02 I love the way he says this line. They really couldn't have picked a more perfect voice actor for Emet-Selch. He is SO GOOD and just totally makes the character. The range of his acting is astounding and really succeeds in making Emet sound unhinged lol
One of the fun little details is the fact that when he was the emperor he actively funded and sponsored theater. That is how the acting troupe from the Stormblood Alliance Raids managed to get their flying ship/theater. He was 100% in love with drama and theater in general.
@Phoenix He is a precious bean that needs protecting and I love him. He's amazing and sassy and sexy and snarky and lively and *nyaaaa* I looove hiiiiim
Whenever you mention someone for the first time in a conversation you start with his nick/name, not with a contextualising part of speech, doesn't matter if he is in your pants or in Africa. If he said "his theories" you can't know whether "his" refers to Urianger, Alphinaut, the WoL, or John Snow. And this isn't the most casual conversation for him to look away from his target or point at Urianger instead of holding his blade. But he should have said our theories, instead of giving away potential info to an enemy.
@@xeayath8073 "Hey Urianger, looks like your theories are correct" as opposed to speaking like the man isn't present. If Urianger wasn't there, the line Thancred speaks makes perfect sense. It's not a matter of *grammer* but *content*. Thancred is literally speaking like Urianger isn't present.
My favorite ascian I love that he just buts in and joins because “why not?” Also I like him saying meddling cause it reminds me of “my plan would have been perfect if it wasn’t for you meddling kids”
He has his deck so fucking stacked that he doesn't even bother hiding in the shadows. He knows he's going to win whether the Scions play into his games or not.
"Indeed, it is enough to make me think better of confronting you alone" ... Dude could easily wipe out everyone cept the MC. The deception he brings is maddening.
Its interesting how the end reveals so much about the primals and our character while 5.1 shows that Zenos is willingly works with an Ascian, it falls in line with what Emet says
Emet was just the best villain ff14 has ever personally I don't think there will ever be a villain as amazing as emet in ff14 ever again he was just so well written
With the revelations of Endwalker revealed, something has been bothering me about the Ardor the Ascians were attempting. There goal was to restore the world to it’s original state, which could only be achieved through rejoining it’s Thirteen shards to the source. So the question ultimately is: what were the Ascians going to do about the Void, the thirteenth shard? From how they talked about it the Void was useless to them.
Most likely they'd just wait for someone to re-balance the aspected aether. Which is already in progress in SHB's class quests, though it'll take years to accomplish considering how bad it is.
they did mention that they fucked up with the Thirteenth shard and its rejoining(and almost fucked up with the first and its rejoining), and they did hope they could use the light aspected aether of the First to "balance" the void, They have time, it would take ages, but they have the time.
I honestly theorize that like he was able to pull yshtola from the Lifestream we might do the same with him. Azems power is to summon allies, and is exercised in the fight with elidibus where emet saved us once. What better knowledge and reinforcement for how to combat the final days than someone who's lived through it?
The single most chilling bit of his entrance is knowing he could have just killed everyone without breaking a sweat, and didn't. He chose to let us live.
0:50 This confirms that Solus zos Galvus looked like how he does now when he found the Garlean Empire and that Emet Selch didn’t steal someone’s body when he came back after Lahabrea failed. It can also be implied that this is what Emet Selch really looks like, either that or his Hades form.
He's possessing a clone. The original body withered away and died, amd it's mentioned during Stormblood patch quests that Varis made use of Allegan technology to produce duplicates: hence why when he shot Emet Selch, he simply reappeared in another identical body.
If you talk to Emet-Selch in between cutscenes in ShB, he tells you that whenever he possesses a body, he immediately molds the flesh to his preferred face (which we find out in EW is his original face) which is for reasons of sentimentality but how he has retained a sense of self, whereas Lahabrea just hops from body to body without care and that has changed who he once was. I think he either says this in the Ocular before going to Rak-tika or right after entering Rak'tika, you can ask him why he looks the same or why he chose that look in the first. He also mentions that he took this body from someone in the first, so not one of the clones he had in the source. I guess while Asciance can traverse to other shards, their bodies cannot.
@tyriaxepheles7996 Considering how we learn about Lahaberea in Pandaemonium... I'd like to wonder how it changed him. Lahaberea himself even says "my duty is absolute, so no... I won't say it's beyond me to Ultima an entire Caestrum to kill one person...that person being you by the way" Though he also *does* say that he grants you permission to hold a grudge against him because neither of you will see eye to eye and in your time its your duty to protect the star from him so if its to fulfill your duty feel about him as you will.
Even during a sunny day, the light infected sky looks completely different from the regular sky. Regular sky is blue with white cumulus clouds. Light infested sky is golden with yellow clouds.
@@zirovanes late reply but in other cutscenes it was raining and times. For me, specifically in this cutscene it was bright daytime and Emet says THE SKY RESTORED TO ITS FORMER GLORY, and its literally just day. I got so salty I alt f4'd. I needed it be night for my sanity.

Thinking back on this scene, it's kind of hilarious that Emet-Selch refers to the WoL as a 'Famed Ascian Slayer', when they've literally only killed Nabriales. Igeyorhm and Lahabrea were killed by Thorden, Emmerololth was technically killed in the past by Galuf, and MOST of the rest of the Convocation were killed by Gaius. By this point in the story, Elidibus, himself, and Fandaniel are still around, and they're the only other Asciens we directly kill.
'dude wtf no one liked the stormblood story' 'well what parts did anyone like' 'no ones said anything good about the writing since the DRK story' '... make him lead writer'
@@tribble608 storm blood was ok didnt like lyse she made that boring alisaie and Alphinaud were the only good thing for me oh an omega :3 oh and less we forget DRK story was soood damn good brought a tear to my eyes.
I loved the Othardian portions of Stormblood especially Yanxia and the Azim Steppe. I forgot about the whole Ala Mhigan stuff and that they ruined Yda. And I completely repressed that that's where Zenos crawled out from
Shadowbringers story was best of all dlcs. From start to finish it was just a masterpiece. Endwalkers second half was an instant classic but 1st half had some boring sections
I agree. I think ShB was the best. I feel that the OSTs of EW are hype or calming considering it's about The Final Days. Also when we went to *paradise*, it was hype all the way and my 1st time using TRUST to run a dungeon because who wouldn't?
In conclusion, Emet-Selch is the Adachi of Final Fantasy XIV, minus the persona and the power of the midnight channel. I say this because like Adachi, he's a relatable character (and he's cool, I would love to have Emet-Selch's outfit)
@@pforgottonsoul it's complete shit compared to his Japanese voice. Idk why people think this sounds good. It doesn't fit his character at all and it's overacted.
