Princess Fairy the retired racing greyhound is so spoilt and fussy that she turns her long nose up at most of the branded tinned and sachet wet dog meat. Watch to find out what Fairy will eat!

When I first got ex racer Catch, I went through the very same process, buying different branded dog food both dry and wet tinned. I was so worried she wasn't eating. Anyway she would definitely eat Asdas minced beef I cooked costing £3.75 per meal and cooked chicken breasts. It's safe to say Catch had me well trained. Eventually she would eat reluctantly AVA purple bag kibble like shown. Catch still has sardines, beef and sliced chicken. Dogs are smart.

It makes me very happy to see how healthy Fairy appears. In the human world Fairy's hilarious attitude to the branded dog food could be described as aloof! Greyhounds are so slender it is easy to tell if they are being over or under fed.

Holly will only eat kibble if it copious rubbed with corned beef, chicken or tinned ham. She will eat pouches sometimes for lunch but they are small. Dog treats also have to be rotated because she gets bored with them. We have had her 8 years now and she has us well trained 😂😂

I loved this EXCEPT needed a warning for those treats! LOL I'm so grateful for people like you who understand nutrition and animals are usually very instinctual in that they can smell what would be toxic and not. Most humans feed their animals like they eat and see the same health issues. I LOVED that she loved the healthy oil and fish. I am the same way LOL I don't like the smell but I know I need it. Healthy oils, fats, proper diet grain free. That is what I am on again in the new year NO sugar, no grains/grasses, lectin free veggies and no processed foods. I feel my best and I can see why Fairy loves her healthy diet. Thank you for being aware and conscious!!! 🥰😋

My Holly was exactly the same..only fresh veggies, chicken breast mince and kibble for dinner and for breakfast I make a special loaf of chicken breast mince, tuna, sardines, rolled oats, cheese, grated apple and sweet potato boiled eggs with blueberries....at 11 she is a picture health. Fairy is indeed a princess and should be treated as such. It's our job to be their human slaves for their lives, because they're worth it❤❤❤❤️

You can also make home-made glucosamine, by simmering egg shells with water and a tablespoon of acid, like apple cider vinegar - good for humans and animals, too. My vet told me about it (not only a DMV, she also has a PhD in Epidemiology, and used to work in cancer research). She emphasized the low heat needed for both the glucosamine, and for stably cooking animal proteins.

My greyhound would gobble anything that wasn't nailed down; I was strict about her not eating things that weren't actually offered to her (she did one week realize that my food sitting on the coffee table was delicious, but once I caught her at that & scolded her, that was the end of free samples!). In her later & more stubborn years ("Mom doesn't stay mad for very long!") she realized the value of a long nose for counter-surfing, just running her nose along the edge of the kitchen countertop to check out the food situation ("That's for me, right?"). She was obsessed w/ sniffing everything by actually putting her nose on it ("I'm a sighthound, mom, not a sniffhound!"). But many years ago, my 1st dog was a collie & she would not take a dog biscuit ("If that's so tasty, mom, I'll let you have it!"). She was an only dog but one day I rescued a dog who was very hungry & snarfed down those biscuits like mad, & Miss Collie Princess suddenly began to want them very much. You have created a bit of a food monster, but I'll bet if you had another dog there, Princess Fairy would shape up very quickly. Dogs are basically scavengers & when hungry will eat just about anything; they say they don't have much in the way of taste buds. When I had multiple dogs I never had a picky eater. I think it's lovely that you cook for Fairy, but do be sure she is getting the nutrients she needs, perhaps a daily vitamin pill, on the recommendation of your vet. And FYI, almost all of my dogs have lived long, happy, healthy lives into their 12's & 13's (I mostly had big dogs who don't live as long as smaller ones) on grocery store brand foods. I do boil chicken then I use the broth as a treat for them) but at the price of beef, they need to get well-paying jobs (as Fairy has done) or perform some heroic deed if they want that!

Excuse me Mom! I feel that I must speak up on behalf of Princess Fairy, which you called her yourself and also put a tiara on her as evidenced in this video! I certainly understand the indignant look on Fairy's face when you so brutally forced her to try that "wet stuff". How do I know this, because my own Mother tried this on me until I set her straight and now I only get the best of the best. My human is well trained now and she even calls me a Diva, which I certainly agree with. Carry on Princess Fairy. BTW, my name is Christian and my human tells me that I am a very spoiled toy Poodle. Well, there's no need for any name calling!

Ah yes, the uber-picky princess/ prince. BOTH my dog (now passed) and my cat (still extant - and UBER-demanding - and VERY vocal about his wants) have been very picky. They both had/ have me well-trained, though I admit to extreme frustration at times - ESPECIALLY with my cat. They BOTH have been MASTERS at "high-grading" - going through food and eating ONLY the very best (human food) morsels, and leaving the rest. My clever dog would delicately eat around any medicine, and then spit the pill/ capsule out. And, if he didn't LIKE the food, he would just not eat - sometimes, for 2-3 days. Sigh. I also negatively marvel at how essentially a street cat morphed into a demanding il divo. When he stopped eating recently at age 17 (after a teenaged girl walked off with him, and he was then dumped at the SPCA), only 2 kinds of human-food pate - liver and chicken/ pork/ beef (can't find the salmon pate any more) enticed him to resume eating. He also has ~12 different kinds of expensive kibble, that must be given - ON TIME, throughout the day. And, he refuses to eat anything with his own saliva on it. (I add it to the bird feed now, but threw it out for YEARS). I was recently told that, apparently, his "il divo-dom" is related to a shared past life in Egypt, where, when I died, he was entombed alive with me, so now it's payback time. Sheesh! Unknown karma from thousands of years ago apparently explains his uber-entitlement/ my servile need to spoil him. Who knew? Either that, or "cat-titude". 😁 BTW, love Fairy's "you must be kidding" looks when she doesn't like something. I know that look... 🙂 Cheers!

Hilarious, but sadly, True. He ALSO seems to think that every time HE looks at ME, it's time for new food. Sigh. And they say cats are "low maintenance" and "easy". "They" haven't met MY guy... He ALSO shredded every door surround when he first moved-in, when I didn't get up early enough for his liking, to let him outside (he discovered that he could GET me up IMMEDIATELY with this shredding. Grr.). And, he destroyed the edge of my sister's wooden walkway, sharpening his claws. Sigh. Multiple deliberately dug-out dog sleeping holes in the lawn, and damage to the woodwork both inside & out from the cat. Good thing I live in a relative's home! Cheers, and thanx for your vids on Fairy!@@Fairythegreyhound

Greyhounds don't really need to drink or eat from a raised platform. Maybe some do, but it's not a universal fact. If anything, there is research that indicated that raised bowls could be a factor in dogs like these developing bloat, one study even finding that it can double the risk. I mean if the dogs were left to their own devices in the wild, they probably be eating off the floor 99% of the time.
@kgrant3184
@kgrant3184 6 месяцев назад
Interesting. That's opposite to what my vet/ dog books recommend. They say raised bowls for big dogs, but that cats prefer to eat crouched down. I wonder if what you read is related to certain breeds' propensity to gulp down their food rapidly? That would make sense. My dog was a supremely picky eater (and would refuse to eat - sometimes for days, if the food wasn't to his taste), whilst my cat is also picky as heck, but a gulping glutton if the food is to his palate. Alas, BOTH of them had me well-trained... 🙂
@GheGho
@GheGho 6 месяцев назад
@@kgrant3184 According to the articles it used to be the way to recommend raised bowls to counteract GDV, but with this new evidence it's suggested to educate and reverse these recommendations. Raised bowls was identified as one potential risk factor along with gulping down their food and exercising too soon after a meal. RU-vid doesn't seem to like me posting links, but some of the sources that show up when googling it are from Purdue university and JAVMA. Since large and giant breed dogs with the "deep chest" are more at risk, I decided to err on caution of what recent evidence I could find. I think it's up to each owner to see what works best for their dog but most importantly not get their guidance from random forums or dog park opinions but try to seek out and be evidence based.

My dog Velo 1984-1996 (greyhound x Welsh collie) had canned Pedigree Chum with Winalot mixer, Never managed to get her eating cheaper brands and I dont think any of these fancy premium brands with vegetables in existed back then, I am always amazed at what dogs now will eat. Velo used to turn her nose up at carrots, bananas and lots of things dogs seem to like nowadays, and she had an utter horror of anything that looked or smelled like a fruit or vegetable (and trust me I tried!! lol) I daresay she wouldnt have turned up her nose to steak and chicken though if I'd been able to give her that. Your Fairy eats (a helluva lot) better than I do!!
